hey guys I am not sure what to do. my bike is a total loss. I will make out great with insurance tho. they give me 7700 plus tax and title or about 8500. I bought it for 7500 plus tax for 8300. after all is said and done state farm pays me 1400 and change. I could buy it back for 1800, 400 out of pocket. not bad. but is the frame bent for sure? I picked up the bike already - forgot to ask when I was there :2bitchsla . the mechanic does not remember if it was just scratched or if it was bent. so i will try to swing it by there tomarrow night. cosmetically it's bad. but it looks like to me it needs tripple clamp head lamp bracket and race body kit and it's all good to go. oh and engine cover. any input here.
thanks guys

I am sure you can pick up a new 03 for around $8500 these days specially when the 04 comes out. I say get a new bike.

Have the frame checked out and if it is good buy it back, make it ridable for now and when the 04 comes out you will still have plenty of money left over for a new bike, this one can be your track bike.

thats what i was thinking ronin. or at least make it a city tranportation easy to park ride. i was thinking of buying this old 70's honda for 500 just to get me around SF and easy parking. but strip my R1 down and ride her naked for awhile is much better than that honda. I am gonna take her back to the shop either tomarrow night or sat mourning. see if it is not too bad then I will buy it. they said the nearest frame shop (or the one they use ) is in sacramento. way too far to ride in my codition and would probally cost near half of just nuying it. so we shall see. still debating

I would make it into a naked with superbike bars, speed triple headlites, paint the frame/motor/wheels/calipers ect.....and also get an '04 !

Man I am in the same boat as you. I wrecked my 98 on the same side but I dont know what to do. A guy at the bike shop wants to buy it from me but I dont know if I want it for myself. I thought about buying a new one but I am trying to buy a home now to and I cant make any moves on my credit because my loan for the house is in Underwriting. So its all in what you want to do but I cant figure out if I should keep it? Anyone got any suggestions for me? later Rich

let me know if you don't buy it back, I will. I can also get it to the frame shop, as I live near Sacramento.

talked my insurance, they said just call it even. keep the bike and they will forward me the title after the payoff.
