R1_Demon 07-26-2003, 10:07 PM Hey all,
Since most of you know I now work up in LA every day (if you don't, you do now :lol ), I need to try and move closer. This 110 miles round trip in rush hour traffic every day is NOT going to cut it.
However, I don't know what good areas are around/in/near Long Beach that would be good to move to. I don't necessarily need a totally fancy location or anything, but I don't want a place I'll be afraid my bike or my truck won't be there (or the stuff inside my house when I come home from work) when I get up in the mornin' or whatever.
I just don't really feel like moving to Los Angeles it's self. I figure if I'm in LB, then I can still come down for functions and all that. I think it'll be a good "middle" point for me.
Anyway, if you guys/gals could let me know either via post, PM or email ( R1Demon@R1Demon.com ) I would greatly appreciate it.
I probably can't move till late this year or early next year. My lease actually ends March 31st of 2004, but I might have the money to break it sooner than that and want to have all my ducks in a row and my research done.
Thanks tons!
Mat
PS I'd kinda want to be fairly close to the 405 cuz I take that up to W. Century every day.
R1_Demon 07-27-2003, 06:29 PM Wow...I thought most of the Dragon Squadron was up near Long Beach/LA. Maybe I was wrong? :(
CMRRA13 07-27-2003, 10:01 PM Sorry, don't know LB all that well to reccomend a good location. Torrance is more my area.
I'm down in San Diego, cant help much here, sorry =(
Ronin R1 07-28-2003, 02:12 PM Talk to Bill, he lives in LB area.
BRBJackson 07-28-2003, 05:03 PM Mat, call me on the cell. I'll give you the lowdown on LB, bro :D PM me if you don't still have my #
R1_Demon 07-28-2003, 08:56 PM THanks guys...
Bill you have mail...I sent it today before reading the thread...I was at work and remembered the directions that you were around there. :D So I sent an email out about 5-10 min ago.
Thanks man!
By the way...also what sections are good in Torrence? (I don't have your screen name in front of me, but I know it starts with a C. LOL Sorry bro)
I'm trying to find places kinda in that area (heard it's called South Bay) and the Long Beach area...but would prefer Long Beach only because it's still closer to where I ride at all the time with my club...but depends on what I can find.
Thanks again for anyone's assistance. :)
George P. Buono 07-29-2003, 09:37 AM L.B. is spotie (is that spelled rite?)you'll have a good area and a few blocks away it's crap! The east side and near the ocean are the best(I you can afford it) I live on the west side (Wrigley) which is generally a good area. House prices are in the $300-$400k range.
R1_Demon 07-29-2003, 02:08 PM
Well, I'm not buying a house...unfortunately I don't have the cash..but I'm looking to at least rent an apartment that has garages or secure parking for my bike.
However, if I can find a decent place to rent a house, I would love to do that (with a garage though), but somehow I don't think I'll find it. But ya never know.
I appreciate the info. I guess I will have to check out the apartment complexes I found on apartments.com and see what the hood looks like around there. hehehe.
Cya,
Mat
George P. Buono 07-29-2003, 03:30 PM With interest rates being low,it maybe good to look into a condo. with like 5% down. You mite get a place for less then rent and you get a tax brake.
mxracer95 07-29-2003, 04:08 PM 110 miles round trip? Sheesh. I commute from north O.C. to downtown LA everyday, about 46 miles round trip. Takes me 30 mins to work in the AM and 35-40 minutes to get home in the PM (on the bike of course).
Depending how much you can afford, of you look around my area, you'll be fairly close and it'll still be cheap. Cross over into LA County and you'll pay a lot for nothing very nice. The exception being the south bay. I lived in Redondo beach for a bit, very nice area and inexpensive. Look around Redondo Beach and Torrance. Most of Redondo Beach is decent, it's cheaper the further from the beach. In Torrance, look in Western Torrance near Redondo Beach. It starts to get some not so good areas the more East you go.
Only problem with the S. Bay is the freeways are a bit of a drive. I used to commute to Santa Monica and 1/2 my time getting to work was getting to the freeway.
R1_Demon 07-29-2003, 09:14 PM Hey bro...thanks for the info.
Ya, it's actually 110.8 miles round trip. LOL
Takes me about 50 min in the morning (if I haul some a$$ starting out from south OC because traffic isn't bad and the HOV lane is wide. :D )
But going home takes me about 1.5 hours. I leave at 5 and get home right around 6:30. Sucks.
I usually leave here about 7 am in the mornin' and get there around 7:50-7:55 depending on traffic.
Got pulled over the other day for doing 85 in the HOV lane and splitting. Then I didn't pay attention to my mirrors so I don't kow how long he had his lights on and/or following me. :2bitchsla He was actually pretty pissed cuz he pulled up next to me and made some "not so nice motions" for me to pull over. LOL I was still doing like 85. LOL!!! :lol
I just get used to not looking in my mirrors...oops...and I haven't even been to a track day yet! LOL :lol :lol
Well, thanks for the info. I was/am considering South bay. I don't need to be right near the water. I have more fun on the pavement :lol :yesnod
CMRRA13 07-30-2003, 09:14 PM You can't go wrong with just about any place in Torrance. Just stay away from the Northern and Eastern side if your looking for anything but perfect. The Southern and Western side of Torrance gets a bit pricey.
R1_Demon 07-31-2003, 12:03 AM Thanks CMRRA13,
I appreciate the info. Got all this written down from all you guys. I appreciate it! :D
