pep-02R1 07-27-2003, 04:49 AM It seems that my 02-R1 during starting Idling is low. My last years 2001 929 (also F.I.) at Idle had been arouind 3-4 then when warm droped to 1k, But my R1 will idel almost at 1k during cold. Isn't this spose to be a automatic choke?? So I was just wondering if there is anyway to Make the cold Idle higher??? Or if this is normal. Thanks PEP
Interceptor 08-01-2003, 07:00 AM See Mechanical/Help forum - Download the service manual for your bike!!!
I don't know how they did it, but it's really great!!!
Hope it helps, NO, sure it will.
pep-02R1 08-01-2003, 07:05 AM inter, thanks I had already check and didnt see anything, on cold idle, Just regular idle. UNLESS i missed somthing.
Interceptor 08-05-2003, 08:59 AM Sorry about that, after going through all 400 odd pages, no there is nothing!!! What I would check is if any of the jets in your carbs are blocked. When you open the choke the air mixture goes through diff jets...
Good luck!
pep-02R1 08-11-2003, 05:28 AM K, guys this is still a good monday morning question.
racindego 08-15-2003, 12:01 PM SOMEBODY PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION
pep-02R1 08-15-2003, 12:18 PM Ok, its friday 230pm.
And nothing on this question yet.
racindego 08-15-2003, 01:11 PM can you adjust the cold idle speed with a power commander? i think I could cure my cold starting problem by increasing the setting for the cold idle. my bike idles lower when cold then when warm.
pep-02R1 08-15-2003, 01:17 PM racindego,
I got no idear. I figured on this sight there should be someone that would know about this. Must be in some software in the electrical system.
racindego 08-15-2003, 01:57 PM i hear you. i am willing to buy a pcIII if thats what it takes to make my bike start better when cold, but i dont want to buy one if its not gonna help. my bike wont need a pcIII otherwise, cause im not moddin anything but the suspension. i dont wanna waste money on a pcIII for no reason
pep-02R1 08-15-2003, 02:00 PM I got the pc3 and it didnt make a differance, when starting cold.
so I wouldnt run out and get one.
vagab0nd 08-20-2003, 06:33 PM so the trouble is a cold idle??? like when you start it is not over a grand?? looking at your web page I would say start it in the spring instead of winter lol.
is your ride fule injected???
one thing I would not do If I were you is "blip " the throttle while it is warming up, as it creates a bad oil problem, In the oil filter there is a valve called the flow back valve , it is suposed to let oil through in case of a problem, and is not really suposed to open at all, but when you blip the throttle it passes un filterd oil into yout engine, that includes all the bit's of metal it was suposed to stop, I know it soulds sweet to rip it off the key , but let it warm up.
I will do what I cat to find out what youhave to do to get an increase on your idle.
evilR1 08-21-2003, 03:08 AM with full sytem, my bikes cold idle got worse
tech who made custom dyno map said my cold idle circuit is overly sensitive to temperature changes
what sensor? where is it?
i liked how my 929 would idle up, then idle back down during warm up

The idle adjust has been known to move from engine vibrations its on the shift side in between the frame and head looks like a black tube with a finger adjust screw on the end. Start your bike adjust it up per manual recommendations at cold idle and she should settle out when she gets warm. Also if you got a pc111 then hook your laptop up and watch the idle speed in real time numbers and adjust from there.
P.s. get to know your power commander it has alot of functionality that can help you.
