R1Fanatic 08-04-2003, 10:41 AM Ok, this section of the forum hasn't been active for a while (I guess you guys haven't been in the "giving" mood lately :lol) So, I'll try to jump start it again by throwing something in the pot.
I have a BRAND NEW D.I.D. ERV2 520 Gold Chain that I am willing to give away to a forum member. The chain arrived with 120 links, and has been cut down to 114 links. Unfortunately, the chain is now too short for my setup (16 tooth front sprocket / 45 tooth rear sprocket) Don't get me wrong, it fits, but the chain made my wheelbase a little too short for my liking.
If you have (or are about to purchase) 520 sprockets with either stock gearing, 1 down in the front, or 1 up in the rear, this chain should fit perfectly. If not, you can always buy connecting links for around $5.00 bucks: http://www.kneedraggers.com/index.php?partno=13-DID-LNK to add as many links as you like. For my setup (purchased 2 new RK Chains), 116 links were plenty.
The normal Pay-It-Forward Goodwill Rules apply to this giveaway. However, this giveaway is for GUYS WHO AREN'T CURRENTLY RUNNING A 520 CONVERSION. I WANT TO GIVE A FORUM MEMBER THE CHANCE TO TRY THIS MOD WITHOUT SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY!! These chains retail at about $140.00
I am going to Florida on Friday, so I'll pick the winner when I return the following Monday. I'm going to draw names from a hat...
Good Luck

extremeR1der 08-04-2003, 10:43 AM pick meh!
edit:
I should prolly say a little more than "pick meh!"
I was one of the few members to be lucky enough to get in on scud's deal WAY BACK in the days of early r1-forum.com. Unfortunately, his hook-up from cali never hooked meh up :(
I beleive part of the reason was because everyone was going to 45 teeth and I asked for a 44 tooth. He mentioned that he didn't have it in stock so I'd have to wait. ...and wait ... and still waiting :(
Anyway, just like you said, fanatic - this would give me the opportunity to do the conversion that I've been waiting for and I have been intending on going to 44 tooth.
Meh or not meh, this goodwill is cool of ya.
Liquid02R1 08-04-2003, 10:49 AM You rock...Someone is going to get a bad azz chain...
Blue03Rsix 08-04-2003, 10:53 AM I would really love that chain, I am looking to get 520's and this is just the incentive to do it.... Thanks for goodwill forward
Mickey_D100 08-04-2003, 10:55 AM can't use the chain fanatic, cuz I don't have a bike, but once again, you impress with your generosity. :thumbup Nice job man.

Sorry Man, but the D.I.D. chain is going to be given to a forum member FREE OF CHARGE!
However, I sent you a PM about the RK chain a few days ago....
DaoTan 08-04-2003, 11:06 AM very nice of you d00d, i don't need it but good job!
mslatter 08-04-2003, 11:10 AM I am all stock too - and ignorant. I was told I'd need a new chain in about 2,000 miles. If the chain fits a stock 99, then count me in too please! Either way, very nice of you to offer!
motopsyko32 08-04-2003, 11:11 AM anyone wanna give away a used rear tire with some life left in it?
motopsyko32 08-04-2003, 11:11 AM stock chain is 530

The Pay-It-Forward Goodwill rules require that you have a minimum post count of 50. I know a lot of the newer members may not have tried this mod yet, so I'm going to overlook this rule in this particular giveaway. (it seems as though many of the longtime members have already switched over to the 520 setup) So, NO MINIMUM POST COUNT IS REQUIRED IN THIS GIVEAWAY. HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE THE LUCKY WINNER, BE SURE TO "PAY-IT-FORWARD" AND SHOW ANOTHER FORUM MEMBER SOME GENEROSITY AND HOOK HIM/HER UP WITH SOMETHING
To answer your question, there is a huge debate between 520 and 530 chains used on the street. The facts show that the D.I.D. chain has a tensile strength rating that is higher than the stock chain!:fact With proper chain maintanance, the 520 chain will hold up to any amount of abuse you put on it on the street. Hell, the racers use them.
You may not get as many miles as the 530 chain (may have to replace a few thousand miles sooner), but the performance increases, in my opinion, are more than worth it!!!!! With my setup of 16/45, the acceleration of my bike is AWESOME!!
520 chains and sprockets are lighter than the stock 530, and the decreased weight improves breaking, acceleration, and handling, and it cuts down on unsprung weight and hp loss due to friction. Run a search for "520 Conversion" and read up on the debates...
FornicationR1 08-04-2003, 11:20 AM  Dang Fanatic thats funny I just watched the movie....Anyway plz put myself into consideration for the 520 conversion:jump
motopsyko32 08-04-2003, 11:20 AM im stock 530 and i am 1 down in front and my bike is fast enough to scare the piss out of me at times!

ncjerseykid 08-04-2003, 12:46 PM Count me in for the giveaway! I'm running stock on my 00' R1 and I've heard great things about the 520 conversion and would like to try it for myself. I think a good reason I should receive it is because I'm in the mountains of Western North Carolina and this elevation is robbing me blind of precious horsepower! PLEASE HELP:p :lol :hellobye

kb-nel 08-06-2003, 09:45 AM Hey man, I would love to have the chain, I was just about to try the 520 kit, and a free chain would fit right in to my budget which is quiet small. Your bike is pretty sick looking also, I have the blue one, but I like the way you did the red and all the black on your bike. Whoever you give the chain to, that is very cool what you are doing.
peace
Borealus 08-06-2003, 09:51 AM The chain on my bike is shot (13,000 on it). It flaps around like the fat underneath my arm. So count me in so i can stay on the road.
BlueDevil 08-06-2003, 01:50 PM I am also very interested. I am getting into a racing org next season and am in serious need of parts as cheap as I can find. On the list still Chain and sprocket conv. , rear sets, saftey wire. I have f few items I have been considering giving away to the members aswell. This will be the perfect motivation to go for it.
Erkki 08-06-2003, 01:59 PM Throw my name in the hat please.
Thanks,
Eric

jacky
VinR1 08-08-2003, 06:00 PM count me in too... If you still have it! I tried my own 520 conversion and did the same thing you did (removed too many links, overtightened the chain and ruined a sprocket) so I had to reinstall the factory chain and sprockets... oh well
lemme know if you are still selling the other chain as well, i may buy it if I dont get the free one!
Maxxym 08-08-2003, 06:04 PM I would like this chain :( I never won anything :( I gave away some stuff though :)

IndyRXTC 08-13-2003, 10:12 AM *write IndyRxtc and IndyR1 down only, and draw from them*
*give him your mids too*
*Go ahead and throw in your lowers too, the almost black scheme is growing on me*
:D
P.S. Do you know your sig doesn't match your bike anymore...:)

slutty 08-15-2003, 12:01 AM me me me
R1Fanatic 08-18-2003, 03:29 AM Maxxym's name was drawn out of the hat!! :jump Hey Max, shoot me your info via PM and I'll get the chain to you ASAP! Again, the chain is brand new, 114 links, and you'll have to purchase a master link to connect it. (about $5.00 bucks) Don't worry about shipping costs, I got ya covered. Thanks for playing all........
Note: If you plan on keeping the stock amount of teeth, 114 links will work perfectly. However, if you plan to change the gearing, I suggest going down 1 in the front instead of increasing the rear. (-1 is about the same as 3 up in the rear) If you increase the rear, 114 links will make the chain fit a little tight, and it'll make your wheelbase shorter.
Maxxym 08-18-2003, 01:48 PM WOOOOO!!!!! HOLY SHIAT!!! I WON!!! I WON!!!!!!!
I can't believe this!!!!
Rene, you rule!!!!
R1Fanatic 08-26-2003, 04:54 PM Hey Max, check your PM's for the tracking number! :jump
