Spinning tire on the rim (long story)

I'd thought that I'd just share this experience with my fellow R1 buddies... For the last month I was using the MCr1 M/T tire (1st series street/ drag tire) The tire was installed like usuall. Tire machine and soap and water. The tire was balanced to zero. I did a burnout and let the tire cure for a day or 2. The following Thursday, I went to the test & tune track (Irwindale) and dropped my tire pressure to 15 lbs. The track is sticky and nets a decent 60'. I did my burnout and staged. When the light turned green, I dropped the clutch and went into a massive burnout. What the heck? This is supposed to be better than my 208GP dunlop. I'm supposed to have more traction. I dropped the PSI to 12 for the next pass and it was the same story. On the return road, I am in 1st gear and could wack it open and light up the rear tire. I was never able to do that before. I thought I had just wasted my money on this crappy tire. I was practicing launching the bike at my shop and I went back to look at how long of a burnout I left at the imaginative line. Huh??? No black mark???? Weird??? But the RPM's climbed and I was not really going anywhere. What gives?? I took the tire off to inspect it and the inside bead was glazed from spinning on the RIM. The tire was spinning on the RIM!!!! I tossed this tire, cleaned the bead surface on the tire and rim and installed my brand new Mickey Thompson MCR2 with just Windex instead of soap and water. I went out last night to the track and spun a lot less with the same tire pressure (12psi) I had marked the tire and rim and it moves about 1" every pass. I want to know if you guys have the same problem? Mark your tire and see what happens. I'm thinking about putting in screws through the rim into the bead. What do you think???? PS, I am running the stock wheel.

I would guess you are left with screwing the tire through the rim. My guess would have been too much soap/water mixture when installing the tire but you cured that one. I wonder if your rear tire did the same thing.(the stock one) Might be something to do with the stickiness of that type of tire. Are those tires tubeless tires one of the reasons for screwing tires on cars if the fact the tires use tubes and spinning in rim can also ruin your tube as well as cause you time when leaving the line. I know my stock tire did not spin in the rim last time i was at the track but I was slipping the clutch out the hole pretty good. Jeff

I marked my wheels with 208gp's and pilot sports, never moved. Best 60 foot was 1.675. Tire pressure was up around 30 though. The fact that you spun on the wheel leaving the line an inch does not suprize me one bit. What does suprise me is the spinning just by whacking the throttle. Perhaps that could be the return road, not your tire. Screwing your rim would definatley solve that problem. I have only seen a couple bikes running a shoot out tire, and they were not screwed. Slicks are screwed all the time. Are you leaving on a wheelie bar or something?

And about your traction problem. I wonder if you are getting water from the burnout box. Off the front tire? Dripping from the rear??? Don't know just tryin to help.
