I'm getting a 2003 R1, trading in my 954 which now has 23,000 miles on it. I don't pick it up until Tuesday(can't wait!) and I was just wondering about the shift light. Does it blink or steady on? Both? Can you adjust it to any rpm from idle to redline? How about to the revlimiter? Is it easy to adjust? How do you adjust it? I was about to buy one for my 954 because I've hit the limiter a few times while racing it and it caused me to lose some momentum. Just as a side question, what is the stock revlimiter set at? Can you bring it down to redline? Thanx.

It just stays on. It's set at 10.5 from the factory on my '02.
The rev limiter is controled by the computer and you would need to reprogram it to change were it cuts in.But the rev limiter is set so it cuts in after the power drops off so unless you modify the motor ie. cams,porting,rods,pistons,crank.....ect. theres no point.
To bring down the redline you can degree the cams with a little less overlap, but your asking for a tuning nitemare, just shift early.

The shift light can be programmed to blink or be solid. The RPMs for which it ca ncome on is programmable too. Get the service manual on this site and ride the section on setting the tach up. Hope this helps

The '03 has two blinking settings - a fast blink and a slow blink, and a solid light. RPM can be set as to when the light comes on (from 7K to 11.5K RPM adjustable in 500 RPM increments) as well as when the light stops blinking (same range, same increments).

I had trouble with mine until I got about 1K miles on it - I set it to 7K and could never get it to come on. Finally, on the way home from a long ride, I punched it in first as I got on the highway and it started flashing like crazy (I'm set to the fast blink and hit 75 in first). I rode with it set there for about a week, then it became annoying, especially at night - the light is pretty bright and draws too much attention for my taste.

Good luck.

this light is for day use only, I think.
I would not recommand to nobody to use it @ nite time.
It is dangerous.

I have my light set at 11 for the turn on and it turns off at 12. My rev limiter is at 12. I hit it last night, just to find it so i know. You can change the brightness of the light. Its easy. Look in your owners manual. very easy.
