cam chain tensioner spring

has any one out there had the tensioner spring snap?? My 98 with 5000 miles had the spring snap doing 2mph!! when stripped down it was found to have bent the valves, chipped teeth, cracked the shaft etc!!:cryin :cryin its gunna cost approx 1.2k GBP in parts alone to fix:cryin all this for a piddley 75 pence spring! called tamaha technical in the uk and they hadnt heard of it and said in not so many words "tough":machinegu not happy with yamaha at the mo :butt just a warning!

That sucks. check on ebay for the whole motor. Sounds like it may be cheaper.

There you go. Then when your done with it part out whats left, head, case, tranny, stator to get more of your money back. Agreed, PITA for a cheep little part.

Mine just did the same thing @ 23,000 miles. It was rattling really bad after a warm startup so I shut it off. After that, it wouldn't restart. Since the noise was coming from the right (cam chain) side of the engine, I removed the chain cover and found the chain was loose. Then I removed the tensioner and found the plunger all the way in. Took it apart, found the spring broke. This is not going to be fun...........
