DragonR1 11-04-2003, 08:13 PM I was just wondering how many of you that do track days have 2 bikes, one for the track and one for the street?? I have a hard time wanting to take my everyday bike to the track incase something happens... I can't stand it if I can't ride my bike everyday..
Eyespy 11-04-2003, 08:20 PM My R1 is an 00, and is a track-only bike. My 87 FZR 1000 is my street bike that I've had since it was new.
The 04 will become a street bike, or at least that is the theory...
toba r1 11-04-2003, 08:28 PM I ride my 02 at the track but I'm looking for a builder winter project for the track
From today forward , track only , one bike , but I am going to get a smaller bike soon . Eyespy that is really cool you have an 87 FZR1000 that you got new . I had a 95 that was awesome ! it was always the bike I wanted , until the R1 . I never really liked the YZF in 96 or 97.
Hot Rod R1 11-04-2003, 08:48 PM Only one bike here :dunno
DragonR1 11-05-2003, 12:55 PM come on I know more of you ride on the track..

DragonR1 11-05-2003, 02:51 PM man that scuks!! That's what scares the hell out of me about bringing my only bike to the track, I've been without my bike one day and I can't think of anything else ( sold my old one, getting an '03 tomorrow)... where you racing or was that from just doing a trackday??
Big Daddy 11-05-2003, 03:03 PM Just a tk-dy. My own error ended up totalling the bike after i spent all last winter with it as a project, so suffice to say theres a very good chance my next ride will be a 600 for tk-dys only.

StickySideDown 11-05-2003, 03:08 PM One bike. I have considered buying a track only.
tuanmyzx7 11-05-2003, 03:24 PM I have 2 of each, R1 & NSR250 for the street, RS125 & RS125 chassis w/CR80 motor for the track.
Damn BD , thats a bummer , It was a very cool looking R1 ! when did that happen ? Did you get hurt ? Good luck !

d00d, is that a go-kart track?
tuanmyzx7 11-05-2003, 03:49 PM Yes, that's me on my rs125 chassis with a CR80 dirtbike motor. We also run the YSR on the go kart. On the big track I have my 2000 HOnda RS125 gp bike. I took my R1 on the big track before but don't feel comfortable. On my RS125 it is so light 170 lbs with all the fluids, and so low that if you do actually crash, chances of a major damaged is less. BTW I crashed it at Street of Willow on Turn one at 100+ mph and walked away from it fine, same as the bike.
bpa00 11-05-2003, 04:18 PM I have an 02 R1 for the street, and an 01 R6 for track only... I ran out and bought the 6 after my 1st track day because they are just so damn addicting, and I don't want to tear up my baby...

Yeah a bummer for sure but i was very fortunate i just slid for 100ft or so and only had a few sore spots. It happened on July 6th during one of my own tk-dys i organize.

Ozzy_R1_demon 12-26-2003, 09:26 PM Have my 02 R1 doing both duties for now-take it easy on the track though seeing as I still havent got race glass/oggy knobs on the bike.
Trying to save up $$$ to get a track only R6:yesnod

sawboy 01-17-2004, 02:06 PM Sold the r1 just have the CBR600 for the track. I didn't want to but insurance just costs too much on the street. I hope someday it changes but for now I'll get my fix on the track. I'll miss the sunday rides with the boys though.
redden 01-17-2004, 02:27 PM I use the R1 for canyons and track days.
Use a Ninja 250 for comutinig.
YZ250 for the dirt.
Lord Melch 02-18-2004, 01:27 AM Big Daddy,
Yes i do! or should i say i did until this
Ouch - bad luck. But at least you did it on the track - not the road ! And you are here to tell the tale
From what I can see arn't the frame, wheels, suspension etc OK ?
New Track Bodywork - Lights etc and hey presto... ?? :) - Just done it myself. and she looks BETTER than before :)
It's all down to cash. If you can afford a track bike - why not. But you average R1 is a superb track tool, and if you are carefull with the right hand the track IMHO is far safer than the road.

Yup. I have a '03 R1 for the street and an '03 R6 for the track. I got lucky and bought the R6 cheap from a kid that crashed it.
No more swapping plastics and connecting turn signals. :thumbup
