I am on my 2nd set of M1s. GREAT grip and warm up time, but dont last all that long. But they are cheap, so it balances out.

But I wanna try the Diablos next.

unfortunately no tire will last very long on any liter bike.. my Diablo's are already worn with about 5k on them.. will have to replace them before the spring comes around :( :dollar

I've heard that they are the same tire, just different lettering. Not sure though, Anyways the M1 are sweet and the price is right. I have Pilots with 2500 miles on them and there starting to look worn. $190 rear tires still don't last that long....:dollar

Exactly right, but the M1s can scrubb out at 1500 to 2k...
I needed another rear at around 2200 miles on it. :dollar
I enjoyed the tire so much I didnt mind the quick expense...

They should be similar, there made by the same company.
I have a set of M1's,there's good,they feel a little soft(mushy).
the rear is wearing out pretty quick.
I'm going to a set of pilots next.

So what is the minimum life expectancy of the M1's? Will the diablos be the same?

This is what I've been told by a few people, so if its wrong dont flame me!

Pirelli bought out Metzler because of their tyre technology. After buying the company they used it to develope a new tyre, the Diablo, which replaced the Dragons, and were based on the M1 tech.

So basicaly they are a very similar tyre at all levels.

So say I bought either one of these and just stored them in my house until next spring will that be ok or should I wait until next spring to buy some tires? Like will anything go wrong with them if they are sitting aorund for a while?

I just got a pair of m1's from my local shop and it took some convincing from the owner but i'm glad he did. I've always been a Michelin man but I think i have a second favorite.

Since I've only had the M1's other than the Dunlops I'm kind of partial to them but from what I have read about both I wouldn't hesitate to try out the diablo's.

All though just from appearance, the M1's would give me more confidence in wet weather. Don't know if that is really true.

I have ran the M1 on my R6 since the stock Dunflop 207 wore out. Them M1 is a great tire - sticks like peanutbutter to carpet and turn-in is effortless. I ride twisty backroads exclusively and get around 2200 miles from a rear and 4000 miles from a front - running 36/38 or 34/36 PSI. They don't last that long, but I have confidence that they will stick when I crank it over in a corner and that is my main concern.

I recently got in on the Diablo deal and ordered a rear from Calsportbike and got the free front yesterday. I hope these tires are as good as everyone says - but I will never know if I don't try them and at that deal I couldn't pass them up.

Buy a Diablo for the rear and get the front for FREE until the end of March. Go to the web site and check it out. My rear (190) was 165.00 including shipping and handling. Not bad for a free front.

I Just put over 10000 miles on my M1's
10'000?!!!!
and MILES?!!!
How did you do this? Only freeway at low speed?
My rear tires (regardless of manufacturer) make 2500 km (1500 mi) maximum, then they are flat.
Ok, ok, I confess I don't allways respect the speed limit ;)

... and on topic:
The Metzeler and Pirelli are quite similar, same rubber, same construction, just different look and from time to time some difference in quality (german / italian production)
I have allways been riding Metzeler but wasn't to happy with the handling on the R1.
My current tire of choice is the Michelin Pilot Sport for road use and the Pilot Race (for track only!). Best handling, best performance in wet conditions and plenty of grip.

Hi Juerg -where in Zürich are you from and where do you go riding in Switzerland or? We should try and get together when the weather improves and stabilises.

I ride M1 s and am very pleased with them - plenty of grip and easy to warm up...

just switched from sportec to diablo corsa. I have put about 250 miles on the corsa and I just got to say that it is 1 hell of a step up from a sportec. The tire almost sticks like race rubber and out preforms the metzler by far. I don't think it will last as long as the metzler cause it preforms better. Most good sticky tires don't last for shit.
