Just wanted to say that the overwhelming posts regarding wheelies is downright scary. It'a a crap shoot people!! You're gonna bite it sooner or later livin' on one wheel.
The more you practice them the more you'll feel comfortable doing them until one day something runs out in front of you or that back tire loses sight of traction. Play smart.
If you really don't like your R1's, send em my way.
Any monkey can do a wheelie on an R1. Practice your cornering and awarness skills.
I'm riding 8 years now and have seen some downright scary things. r1's always seem to be the bike too (lately that is).

My cornering is perfected. I don't think you can really practice awareness skills once you get to a certain point. I'm bored with drag racing. Going slow sucks. Traffic sucks. Guess I'll just have to keepworking on my wheelies. I'm up to about 1/2 mile now. Check back with me in a few months...maybe I'll have a mile or two. In the meantime.....

DUDE, you sound like my dad! "Be careful son, no wheelies, and make sure to watch out for others."

Sounds to me like you need to practice your wheelies more, or practice something. You sound like a real bore to ride with though..........:rock

I agree R1ZOOM!!!!......If u cant do wheelies leave it to the people who can. Dont come on a sportbike page and bitch about wheelies. Think about what you are saying!!! Lets all have fun on our bikes instead of bitch about our fellow Brothas ........unless of course they ride the slower kinda bikes!!!!!!!!!!:boobies :boobies :boobies

Hate to break it to you Steve, but the majority of the people here either do wheelies, or aspire to do so. This site is for all kinds of riding, stunts included. You will lay your bike down at some point, if you consider yourself a motorcyclist. Whether it be your fault or not, it will happen.

I have no problem getting down in the corners either. I enjoy all kinds of riding myself.

When you can wheelie past me, then you can call me a monkey. Until then I'd say chill bro, this forum is all good you feel me?

a wheelie is a crapshoot whereas taking backroads draggin the knee...

is not?

the people that call stunners monkeys are usually the ones that can't do it.

Just a fair warning people.
Everyone who's got an R1 has done em including I. I'm just saying that restraint is your friend when pushing the envelope on these things. Heard and seen many people go down and get hurt - hardcore - for nothing.
My point is - take it easy out there.

I think you are supposed to wheelie over roadkill ?? Anyone else do that ?

The ONLY reason I ride a bike is because it is fun. The fact I am paid to ride is just a bonus.

And if wheelies, burnouts, stoppies or knee sliding makes my riding more fun, then I WILL DO THEM.

I am aware of the potential consequences, and if I die whilst doing a 200km/h stand up wheelie then at least I died doing something I love. We are all going to die, I'm just going to have as much fun as I can in the meantime.

Yeah but one day it will catch up to you...

Yesterday I was told about a couple of guys in my area that were "experts" at wheelies.
Aparently this past weekend he and a friend of his crashed while riding wheelies toward each other but on their respective sides of the road.
He was killed and the other is in critical condition.

I'm trying to find the article from the paper now. I didn't read it myself but I would like to know more detail myself. If I find it I will post it.

I have to agree with steve in a way. I have no problem with wheelies, but I'll be the first to admit that I am not the best at wheelies either.
My problem is that it seems alot of these posts asking about wheelies are from riders who sound a little "green" if you know what I mean. Some of these posts are asking how to wheelie an R1 in 1st gear. come on! My biggest concern when I first got my R1 was learning how not to wheelie it in first gear.
Of the group that I ride with I am the worst wheelier of the bunch for sure so I am not trying to sound like an expert or anything but all I can say is that I have watched a few friends loop it and its not pretty, usually there is alot of damage to the bike and the rider. so just be careful and ride within your limits. don't feel that you have to be able to chop big long wheelies just because the star boyz can.
lets ride safe, have fun and stop bitching at eachother

You are all getting me down!!
You bought the bike, you own the bike, you all seem to have control over your bodily functions SO?
Ride the fuggin things like YOU want to BUT DON'T persucute people for the way they ride theirs!

I can wheelie and ride quickly round the twistie stuff - I don't know everthing and I'm the last person in the world to be a smart arse and say I'm the best because when you do you know what happens next!!

My experience of thing is no matter how good you think you are there is always someone who is willing to take it that bit nearer the edge....

So do what you want to do, if you get shat on from a great height - don't come runnin to mama.

You know the risks so shut the **** up and get on with it shitheads!!!:jump

You have a point.

I think what the issue here is that there are a lot of young punks that get an R1 as their first bike then come here asking how to wheelie or other stuff.
That they want to wheelie isn't really the issue here...that they've already created bad chemistry with the R1 as their first bike and want to wheelie is well...
...I think it speaks for itself.

It does of course follow that all the wheelie addicts put the front down more softly than 2 silkworms colliding and that, when you come to sell your wheelied to death mounts, your advert will mention that the headstocks/bearings/shocks are all completely shagged.

Just so that a fellow biker doesn't buy a pup.

I thought so....

Thanks for the article.
The irony here is that when I was getting the oil changed on the bike this past weekend...the cop that did the report for that accident was there getting one of his bikes serviced.
Sad shit... :cryin
Just be careful out the guys. :thumbup

That is really sad. I always hate to hear that shit. A guy I only rode with once died last year after hitting a truck with no lights in a 90 mph wheelie. They just didnt see each other. I really want to get a "wheelie light put under my bike for just this reason. STAY SAFE GUYS. Find a place with little or no traffic to do this shit. I want you all to live. Peace.:(
