Outerlimits 05-23-2002, 08:16 AM I am just trying to get a picture of how fast these things really are. If you were just cruising in 3rd gear sitting down. Could you just whack it and haven the wheel come up? How about second gear? My friend's '97 ninja 600, forget about it. I tried to pull a wheelie in 1st gear and it wouldn't do it w/o a lot of tug on the bars. How is the R6 when it comes to wheelies? Will it come right up in 1st gear? How about 2nd? Thanks guys
KneeDragger77 05-23-2002, 08:35 AM SUre, the R-1 will power wheelie in 3rd: with a 150lb rider, going over the crest of a hill, into a 40mph headwind, and with an almost empty tank of gas.
I dont see it happening. Sure, some people might post that they can do it, but I know I cant. 2nd requires some effort, and 3rd the bike will just pull harder, not up. FOr example, I rode my friends GSXR-1000, with a full titanium Yosh, and no way it came up in 3rd. Not without a herculean effort anyways.
Miltown 05-23-2002, 08:42 AM My R6 will power wheelie in 1st and 2nd (sitting down) must be the stock 48 tooth rear sprocket. My r1 will in 1st and 2nd (sitting down), but i have it up two teeth in the rear, third will come up while bouncing and standing, and iv heard of other people being able to do the same thing all the way to 5th or 6th gear.

CraZedIdioT 05-23-2002, 08:58 AM my R1 will come up easily in 1st and 2nd. 3rd takes a little bouncing I have an Akropovic full system and a pcIII
szokr1 05-23-2002, 08:59 AM If your talking about a stock R1, Kneedragger is right, however, I have a Graves Ti full system, graves ram air box, two teeth up on the back sprocket and it has no problem coming up in second, in third, it has powered up a couple times, but not just crusing along and rolling on the throttle, when running hard it comes up. Also, I weight 202 lbs and I am not changing my position on the bike at all.
Buy one and see if it will come up for you....

R1ZOOM 05-23-2002, 09:01 AM I am 145 lbs, 5'8". I can honestly say that with the slightest bump or crest in the road I can easily pull it up at 100 mph in 3rd gear and walk out a wheelie. The fastest I have pulled it up at is about 120 mph in 4th gear, but it didn't come up high enough to walk it, only came up about 2 feet. My R6 wouldn't power wheelie in second, but it would clutch right up. The fastest I ever pulled it up was about 80 mph in second gear, and walked it down the interstate. I had to shift pretty quick, because 80 mph in second isn't far from redlining on a R6. If you are trying to decide between the two and haven't ridden much, then you should definately get the R6. The R1 is my 3rd bike and I have been riding several years...it's power is scary a lot of the time. I've near about fallen off a few times because it accelerates so damned fast.
Outerlimits 05-23-2002, 12:36 PM How is the R6 with a 120lb. passenger. My chick will be riding on the back a lot of the time and was wondering if the 600 is too sluggish for a lot of 2 person cruising. Don't get me wrong, i will have the bike all to myself alot as well, but on weekends and whenever she is not working, she will want to go cruise. This is mainly one of the reasons i am considering the R1, power with 2 peeps w/o having to rev the shit out of the bike to get going. Oh, and i was talking about a bone stock R1 when i comes to pulling the front wheel in third.
pegdrgr 05-23-2002, 02:04 PM My 2002 will do it, with a crest in the road at about 90mph. I am 175lb, no bounce, a little tug and lean. There is a local road that I ride when ever I can that runs through some feilds, it has crests every couple hundred yards that are just perfect for mild 3rd gear wheelies. BTW bone stock.
I had a R6 prior to my R1. The R6 has enough power to move 2 people around. It won't move like it will with 1 person. The other thing to think about is the new R1 sucks for passenger comfort. The R6 is better, but any modern sport bike is going to put your passenger up in the air a bit. If you are really wanting to accomodate the gf get a cruiser. My suggestion is get the R6, unless you are a experienced rider then get the R6 or the R1.
Anubis 05-23-2002, 02:09 PM All right, as far as wheelies in 2nd gear, I can only get it up by clutching it. The only thing I have is my devil slip-on. I usually cruise at about 25mph, pull the clutch, rev to about 8 or 9 grand and let the clutch out and ride it until my shift light comes on at 10,500rpms. As far as sitting down and whacking the throttle in 2nd, it won't come up. Do you guys sit all the way back in the seat? Full tank of gas?
Jboat 05-23-2002, 05:27 PM Anything past 40mph in 2nd and it power wheelies easily. I have had it come up in third on the freeway with just throttle while accellerating hard.:rock
turbonutter 05-24-2002, 10:24 AM My R1 will power wheelie in 1st and sometimes in 2nd if i really am violent and agressive with it. Will come up in 3rd under hard power if it hits a bump.
The 97 ZX6R will power wheelie in first if you hit a bump, otherwise i use the off/on throttle just before the power band and it will easily come up in 1st. You can clutch the zx6r up in 2nd also.
mercurial 05-24-2002, 02:28 PM anubis, if you are clutching it up like that...man your drivetrain will be lucky to see 10k miles.25 mph is like 3k rpm, so if you are dumping it from 8-9 you are probably realing f'in shit up.
