sawboy 12-12-2003, 01:11 PM Hey guys,
I know that its really early but Modsquad and I were talking about booking track days today.
Who would be interested in either a full day at shannonville /cayuga or a couple of evening sessions at shannonville?
Canuck came to the last trackday I booked and he had a blast.
Its going to be a good bunch of guys, no hotshots. I know from our group rides the last 2 junes that there are no idiots here.
Pricing will depend on how many people we get, I can guarantee you that it will be a good deal and be well organized.
come on guys lets see some names. I'm not looking for solid commitment I'm just trying to see who might be interested.
thanks
Canuck 12-13-2003, 05:53 AM Interested!!:jump

sawboy 12-13-2003, 12:14 PM Thanks,
I knew you'd be in.
Just wondering how many other guys here would be interested. I want to keep it alot like last time. Just a good group of guys with no attitude.
Droog 12-13-2003, 02:36 PM I'd be in, as long as I don't get transferred out west next may.
:beer
BEASTLY1 12-13-2003, 10:12 PM I'm in if its a weekend and Cayuga or Mosport.
Shannonneville is too far for me.
Jimsab 12-14-2003, 10:31 AM I'm Interested! Canuck told me about his last tack day, he had a blast.
airborne 12-15-2003, 07:38 AM I'm there for sure and I can drag at least two others with me, good guys too, I also got all the info for a day at Mosport incl. ambulance, insurance, marchels, if you would like to plan a day there, HB cycle is going to try to have a couple of trackdays there next year and I just finished gathering the info, so if you want help with a day there Mark, just ask.
Cheers Chris
sawboy 12-15-2003, 07:48 AM Chris
how much is a full day at mosport?
Please keep me posted on the HB track days, I'm gonna give phil shit for not calling me. I've been bugging him for years to sponsor a track day.
airborne 12-16-2003, 07:03 AM Mosport is about $2675.00 for the small track, ambulance is about $700.00 I never got pricing for the large track usually booked and fu#$ing expensive? Phil's not 100% on the track days yet, he is worried about liability. I did find insurance, Jones Brown insur. The brocker's name is Kevin Besta he's the only guy I found to offer racing insurance. It would be nice to get Phil to sponsor the day, takes the financial burden off of poor bastards like ourselves.
I'd be more inclined to get a day on the long track at Shannonville probabley around the same money.
And a question for everyone, dose anyone have any updated info. on the new track by Calabogie (sorry probably didn't spell that rite)
Cheers Chris. (Keeper outa the rubarb)
dnszoom 12-16-2003, 09:28 AM Hey guys, happy holidays! :hellobye
I am in for a track day. Doesn't matter where. I was supposed to plan one for late last season but none of my contacts got back to me.
Put me on the list please.
David
ando11 12-16-2003, 09:37 AM i might be interested also, probably have a couple dudes (2-4) that may want to come too. what is the deal with gear? i know about leathers and stuff but most of us are lacking the full deal so i was just wondering if textile stuff is ok (i've heard it isnt). please give me a quick list of what is an absolute necessity and i will look around and let the guys know.
thanks,
ando
Fester 12-16-2003, 10:56 AM I would be interested if it ends up at Cayuga or Mosport. Likely have 1-2 other guys I could drag along with me. How many riders are you hoping to get out? I ask that because I would love to ride a track day that was well organized and not swarming with people. My only day was Cayuga in Oct 2002 and that could turn someone off track days forever. 7 groups, dirty track, disorganized, gate marshall was clueless and let fast guys out during the beginner session and then wouldn't let the beginners out because there were too many riders. I got 25 minutes track time total for the whole day. A bunch of us just took the refund and left. Sorry that turned into a rant
Cayuga prices last year for the full circuit:
- $4000 weekend or holiday
- $2800 weekday
- $300 per hour weekday evening
Hope this happens!!
sawboy 12-16-2003, 11:26 AM Fester
thats exactly what I'm trying to avoid by planning it myself.
I rented shannonville-nelson for 3 hours last year and it worked well. Everyone got lots of track time, not one person complained. I think we had about 15-17 guys, no groups. We self policed the rule of not more than 10 riders on the track at a time and it worked great. Obviously this wouldn't work for the long track but I'll tell you guys that I am definitely organizing a few of these evenings.
Also, I'm not in this to make any money so the costs will be whatever it costs me. I just want as many chances to ride as I can arrange. I've sold my street bike and this will be the only time I get to ride. I am going to try and have as many people as possible pre pay. I'm not some rich guy and I can't float many of these if we get rained out and noone shows. Lots of people on here know me, don't worry I'm not out to rip anyone off.
So here is what I propose. Mosport is too expensive for me to book. If Phil wants to set something up I'll work with him but I can't float it myself.
I say we get a full day at either shannonville or cayuga, track size will depend on the number of people who prepay. I'm sure that Modsquads gf will be there to help out but it would be cool to have a couple other volunteers as well. Since we're doing this ourselves We'll have no cornerworkers. There will be an ambulance of course. If we get enough people for a full day I think that 3 groups of 15 riders tops. That way everyone gets lots of track time and room and the cost is still reasonably cheap.
The most important thing in my mind is that we have a good group of people. I want to be able to ride as well, I don't want to be worried about policing the day. If you want to bring someone thats great just please no hotdogs. I'd like it to be a day where some people come out who have never been to the track and by the end of the day they feel comfortable coming back next time.
tell me what you think guys.
sawboy 12-16-2003, 11:43 AM oh also
ando11
I think full leathers would be a good idea. I'm not too familiar with the textile products but I've never seen anyone wearing them at a track day. You can get a used set of leathers pretty cheap.
Has anyone had experience with trackdays and textiles?
Mandatory gear is a good helmet, gloves, boots and I would say a full leather suit. I like to wear a back protector but I wouldnt say its mandatory.
Fester 12-16-2003, 12:34 PM Sawboy,
Sounds amazing!!!! I really need to get out and chew up the left side of my tire as the onramps are only working the right and the oval in Mississauga which was great for lefts, has been gated up for a couple years. Sounds like you will have a good group of people out there.
This is off topic but speaking of onramps and since most people reading this are from TO. Do any of you guys ride the ramps where Hwy 27 crosses over Eglington near the airport? Head west on Eglington and go uphill 270 degrees onto 27 south then immediately downhill 270 degrees onto Eglington east. Head east to the first lights and U turn in the emergency vehicle turn around (watch for police) and do it again. The posted speed is 40km/h I believe and on the downhill ramp we average about 105km/h. Good pavement with no guardrails or reflectors and the lightposts are on the inside of the corner. Easy knee downs and my buddy scrapes the pegs on his RC51. Enjoy and Be Safe.
Ando11 - I have heard one negative thing about textile suits on the track. They tend to be looser fitting than leathers so when you go down they can bunch up and grab the track which increases the chance of tumbling instead of sliding. This is just something I was told so take it as you will. Later
Frontside720 12-16-2003, 01:24 PM I have never been on the track before but I booked Level I F.A.S.T/ for early June. If it's after that, you can count me in. I would like to get comfortable on the track first.
modsquadr1 12-16-2003, 09:25 PM i am getting excited..... :)
airborne 12-18-2003, 10:23 AM This has a lot of potential. Also anyone who is wondering about nylon textile vs. leather. If you plan on riding on the race track alot or you like to ride hard on the street (just my opinion) I strongly suggest the leather. A lot of track day organizers won't allow textile suits and leather two piece suit must completely zip together. Also supershows days at Mosport require at least a snell 2000 helmet, if have a helmet that is more than four years old you might want to ask for a Chistmas present. Anyway one piece leather with all the armour and a back protector is the way to fly on the track. Lets face reality for a moment, because we all love to ride bikes and anyone riding a sportbike close to its potential has eccepted that a great deal of risk is worth all the fun we're having. Now lets try a scenario, you're racing like hell to the end of the straight at Mosport pushing 160 mph shift down a gear, touch the front brakes to scrape off a little speed and hard into a fast right hander. You can catch that guy in front of you if you push a little more so down one more gear and flick it hard to the left don't touch the brakes and you're going to be rite behind him for turn 10 down one more gear hard right turn to get to the inside and hard on the throttle woooops. WHO said hard on the throttle you just spun the shit out of the rear, you skip out so fast that forces towing your ass straight up in the air is to much for you to even hold on to the grips, up up and away, you get to see your bike hit hard to the ground long before you're cleared for landing, you just touched down hard at 160 kmh. Would you like to be wearing leather armoured suit or nylon? Hope for the best but be prepared for the worst.
Cheers Chris.
sawboy 12-19-2003, 10:42 AM good point chris.
don't ask him how he knows.
The last thing we want is to see someone get hurt at one of these days. maybe someone has an old set of leathers that could be borrowed for the day? if anyone needs them let us know.
I'm getting excited too. You guys have got me thinking about riding my bike and I still haven't been out on the sled yet this year!! bring on spring:thumbup :thumbup
ando11 12-19-2003, 11:35 AM good idea, if anyone has leathers post up. if the deal is ok, then i and some bike riding colleagues would need some. thanks. ando.
airborne 12-19-2003, 11:48 AM I've got two one piece suits and a two piece if anybody size 42 regular needs to borrow, also can probably borrow one or two used larger suits not sure what size.
Cheers Chris.
ando11 12-19-2003, 12:24 PM i doubt 42 would work for me. the only reference for size that i have is a joe rocket leather jacket in which i think i fit into a 52 or a 54. i'm not that big so i don't know if this is normal. i am about 6', 210lbs.
airborne 12-20-2003, 06:35 AM North American sizing that is 42 would be 52 in Europe yet Joe Rocket stuff should all be sized North American. I'm about 5'10 and 175 lbs. So none of my stuffs going to fit. Sometimes Oshawa Cycle Salvage, (don't know how for away you are from Oshawa) he usually has some good used one piece suits and this is a good time of year to shop for that stuff. If I stumble on anything I'll try to send you a message.
Chris.

and Droog is he's not sent out west. Why you going out west man? you in the military?
I've also been Pm'd by a couple other guys and there has been some interest from OSR so if you add in the 10-15 guys I usually get it looks like we wont have any problem getting enough guys together.
So guys I'm going to go ahead with this. Before I get things started who would be ok with prepaying, say $50 before April 1st so we can get the first day booked. Lots of time to save up $50, and we'll settle up the balance at the track. I'll get a number on the total cost once more people commit. I promise you that it will not be more than $100 per person. aslo I'm thinking that Mondays or tuesdays will be easier. Any objections? Feedback?
Chris, keep us popsted on that potential HB cycle day. I hope it happens I'd be excited to see those guys again!
ando11 01-15-2004, 10:25 AM sawboy, i will pay you ahead of time. least i can do for you organizing it. i got a suit and my buddies are currently looking like crazy. do i need to tell you exactly how many will come with me or can we wait until the date is closer? just let me know.
ando
modsquads hotty 01-15-2004, 10:25 AM Hey Guys,
I'm excited too :jump .....I can't wait to get some cool footage and pics....... Had a blast last year, a little sad I won't be on the track with you guys....Next year for sure.
Canuck 01-15-2004, 12:40 PM How do you want us to send the cash?:D
We are talking about Shannonville, right?
Monday/Tuesday is great for me.
Do the other tracks allow two piece leathers, without wrap around zipper?
Might have to get a cheap one-piece.
mark49 01-15-2004, 12:56 PM I'm interested:thumbup
sawboy 01-15-2004, 03:22 PM Canuck- I'm thinking either shannonville or cayuga. I know that you're alot closer to shannonville. I think you are the only one though. I'd like to do both tracks if possible. I'm still gathering info on cayuga. We will definitely be doing the evenings at shannonville like last year and I'd like to have a full day there as well. In my opinion Cayuga is a better track but it's more expensive and more strict. I'm not sure about the 2 piece leather question. I can tell you that my spyke suit is 2 piece with a full zipper and noone checked that when I was at cayuga last year. Modsquad you did a day there, did they check your suit?
ModsquadsHotty, It's too bad that you wont be riding with us. Why is that again? I know that R6 would tear up the track. Anyway I'm hoping that you'll be available to help out????? Maybe we could have a whole group of hottys to help out???
mark 49 welcome!! where are you in Ontario? and what the hell is that avtar?
Thanks for all the feedback guys. Its nice to know that there is interest out there before you book something expensive like this. Here is my vision for how things will go. You pay $50 ahead of time, settle up the difference at the track, and if you're happy with the way things have gone prepay $50 for the next one before we all leave the track. I'd also like to get together with everyone at the end of the day and see if we have any suggestions for the next track day. I can tell you guys that have never been to a track day that the most important thing is the people that you're riding around out there with. If we can get the same group of guys returning each time I think this will work out great.
I'll keep you guys posted, as soon as I get some dates and pricing I'll let you know. For now just tuck away that red bill and think of all the fun we're going to have!!!

Looks like Shannonville have raised their rental fee. I guess they've gotta pay for that new pavement they put down.
Doesn't matter its still reasonable.

I did 2 track days there last year....
They did not check the suit, but they did check the helmet....
And they checked the noise level of my exhaust..
the guy wanted me to rev it around 9,000...
(i thought it would be way to loud... and I would not be aloud to race)
so i rev it around 4,000 and the guy thought it was great...:thumbup
Cayuga is realy big on the noise restrictions... I have heard rumors that bikes will not be doing track days this year...
as for Shanonnville...
lets try and get enough guys together for a whole day... the evening was nice... but way too long of a drive and even longer drive home... hahaha
modsquadr1 01-15-2004, 04:10 PM and... if you let me know well in advanced.. my buddy Kevin with his (new to him) R6 will be coming...
Canuck 01-15-2004, 08:25 PM BTW, where's Cayuga?

We still have to come up with a name... we can decide at our first 2004 track day...
Hey HATCH,
how did you get $2,001 in tickets????
hahaha
and welcome to the forum...
ando11 01-16-2004, 09:11 AM talked to the guys last night about the track day. i can say that 4 guys plus myself are a for-sure show.
with all this interest are we going to be pressed for space, or do you think we will still be ok? i'm pumped and i can't stop thinking about getting out there. counting the days........
ando
ando11 01-16-2004, 09:20 AM oh yeah, one more thing. i was checking out the website for shannonville but i can't find out exactly what the requirements are for prepping your bike. how sticky are they with things like rad fluid, taping headlights, etc.? just be better to know it all before we go then have to do some half ass mods when we are there.
modsquad, about the pipe being too loud: i'm a little worried cus i have a micron and it's really rips. should i look into stock exhaust or can i do your little trick (4 g vs. 9 g). sounds like you may have just gotten lucky. thanks, ando.

hey Ando..
regarding the loud pipes.. that was only for Cayuga...
Shannonville does not care how loud they are...
As for preping your bike... I did not have to put watter wetter in the rad for some track days... but you might want to in case something happens (knock on wood) it is recommended by anyone who does track days...
If you are leaving your street ligths (head and tail) on the bike... PLease unplug the bulbs... and tape over the lenses...
I hate following people around the track and you can see the tail light shine through the tape everytime they press the brakes..
This is going to be great.....
there will be plenty of guys do do a whole day!!!!
:jump
sawboy... I think the 2 guys i brought to our last track day would come again... (tom=R1 and Bill=GSXR750)
and Kevin too.............
sawboy 01-17-2004, 12:45 PM Hatch
you have mail.
off topic guys but since we have an offer for help here, lets start thinking about a name again.
airborne 01-19-2004, 07:18 AM Hey Mark, PM me and I'll work out getting you some money.
Canuck I've seen guys with two piece suits that don't zip together get a hassle at the track but they let him go but made him tape his jacket to his pants, but keep in mind these are the organizers that are making alot of the rules so if Mark's organizing the day he gets to set the standard over the basic rules the track has.
modsquadr1 01-19-2004, 07:32 AM yes... mark gets to set some rules...
but the full zip suit is more for your own saftey... I would hate to see someone get hurt....
Just like watter wetter in the rad... it is not mandatory... but if someone crashes... its alot easier to clean up off the track...
Our last track day, there was a guy wearing running shoes with his full suit....
Maybe a custom leather place will install a ful zip???
ando11 01-19-2004, 10:42 AM what exactly is water wetter for the rad? i thought you just had to drain the coolant and run deionized water.
modsquadr1 01-19-2004, 04:35 PM Originally posted by ando11

Its a pinkish/redish bottle that you should be able to buy at Canadian tire... it helps reduce coolant temperature (boiling point)...
water boils too fast....
I use water wetter and distilled water....
Just rememebr too put regular coolant in it before it starts getting cold in November- it will freeze....
some guys just use their garden hose....
airborne 01-20-2004, 05:49 AM Hello Modsquad, didn't mean to give the wrong impression about personal gear especially running around a race track. Just figured if that was all a person had that they shouldn't miss out on enjoying a trackday. There is a guy in Curtis that alters and repairs leather race suits. He could put a zipper in for anyone interested. www.bickleracing.com. Also for anyone out shopping for gear a back protector is a good idea.
Cheers Chris.
modsquadr1 01-20-2004, 08:16 AM Hey Wratt,
its all good...
sawboy 01-20-2004, 02:18 PM Canuck,
I didn't even know that your suit wasn't a full zipper at the last day. I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. These guys do have a point about the safety of having a 1 piece or full zipper. If you are comfortable wearing your suit(the black one right?) then full speed ahead. I also feel that a back protector is smart but its not mandatory. Use your own judgement guys. I dont want to be nagging people all day. If you get hurt its your ass.
dnszoom 01-20-2004, 03:10 PM Okay, kewl news! I am in... do it at Cayuga (it's closer for me, hehe). All kidding aside, it doesn't matter where as long as it's not June 5th-14th as some of us will be at the Gap.
Where do I send the $cashola$? :dollar
Canuck 01-20-2004, 03:13 PM I have a Dainese jacket with a proper back protector and integrated armour - really good protection. The pants are just some basic leather pants(no pucks:) ).
I am pricing some perforated one piece suits, just in case.:D
stoddy 01-20-2004, 03:30 PM woowoo getting pumped . a track full of R1"s what a site
sawboy 01-20-2004, 04:02 PM a track full of R1"s what a site

I"ll be missing the R1 that day.
DnsZoom- you're in Toronto right? If you are I'll just hook up with you one weekend when I'm home and grab the cash. Thanks for the heads up on the June dates.
Does anyone else have any dates that they know they can't make it. Now is the time to let me know before we start booking any days.
modsquadr1 01-20-2004, 07:43 PM good news... I just heard that Cayuga is open to bikes this year...
who has the connection for the cheaper price????
airborne 01-21-2004, 06:07 AM Don't forget Bike Week at Mosport I think July 10th to July 18th, correct me if I'm wrong. Should go one day there too. Down side, it is f@%ing expensive, up side no organizing just show up. And what a track! Also dose anybody have any info about the track south of Calabogie (Probabley didn't spell that rite) and when it may be open. Last I heard they wanted to open it to lapping days this year some time.
Cheers Chris (Hate the cold -25 this morrning truck no start f$%k!) :dunno

Yeah I am downtown... right around the SkyDome. Just let me know when you're around.
I also have another person who would like to come (he is a rookie but I'll show him around the track - R6).
If there are any track rooks, we should have rules set out early about passing, distances and perhaps even some orange/red tape on their backs to warn other riders.
sawboy 01-21-2004, 07:56 AM I think we should have a couple groups for riders, depending on their speed. Maybe we'll break it into street, fast street and race. If I was a new guy I wouldn't want orange tape on my back. HA, might as well hang a slow moving vehicle sign around their neck. Jk.
Last time we had one of the more experienced guys take the rookies around the track a few times to show them the lines then let them have the first session. Its all about comon sense, once again this is why I'm harping on the type of people we invite to these days.
All good people will = no problems.
stoddy 01-21-2004, 09:42 AM ya sessions are a good idea and yes don't book it around bike week at mosport, this will be my first time at mosport big track and man it is expencive but everyone i talk too syas it is worth evry penny
sawboy 01-21-2004, 12:29 PM ya it is expensive, but I think it'd be worth it. I've never been on that track. how much is it this year?
stoddy 01-21-2004, 12:37 PM lasy year i think it was 180 a day
sawboy 01-21-2004, 02:22 PM you going for 1 day?
stoddy 01-21-2004, 02:27 PM i am shooting for 2 days have to see how the cash flow is.i think i am going to take a weeks holiday that week . how about you???
sawboy 01-21-2004, 05:00 PM I might try and go for 1 day, 2 days sounds expensive. Maybe 1 track day and then camp the night and leave the next day.
stoddy 01-21-2004, 05:03 PM well keep in touch and i will let you know when i am going, i want to check out the racing on the weekend
airborne 01-22-2004, 05:53 AM I take bike week as holidays each year. Always a good time. Going to set up camp for the race weekend if anyone wants to hook up. Always seem to be a good bunch of guys there. For trackdays, try to steer clear of the weekend, always seems to turn into a gong show, crashes galore, shortens up the track time huge. To expensive to watch the ambulance go back and forth all day. I'll go a couple of days during the week for sure. Anyone who's never been on that track before you gota go once.
Cheers Chris.
stoddy 01-22-2004, 06:44 AM see ya there chris
sawboy 01-22-2004, 11:24 AM wratt keep me posted on what days you're going maybe I'll tag along for one of them.
modsquadr1 01-22-2004, 12:43 PM if Marky Mark is going... i want to go to....
sawboy 01-22-2004, 01:52 PM Marky Mark :rant :finger
Canuck 01-22-2004, 04:41 PM Uh-oh - could be getting complicated.:lol
Rules? Organizer(s) and track pick them. As long as everyone is in the know, all should be well.
Three suggestions from l'il me:
- bike in good order(chain/tires/tape/fuses etc)
- proper gear
- no passing on the inside before the apex(stuffing? risky?)
Anyone care to add normal track day prep and rules/etiquette?
PS bring lotsa water:beer
modsquadr1 01-22-2004, 05:47 PM No running shoes!!!!
hahahahaha
I should have taken a picture of the guy last year.....
Canuck 01-22-2004, 05:53 PM :lol :lol :lol
mark49 01-22-2004, 06:34 PM Hey Sawboy, sorry I've not been around to reply. Getting My '04 R1 stuff settled (dealer went bankrupt). I'm down in Windsor. I've got a few people who are interested. Couple of us are former racers and a few street riders. I'll feed them more of the details as we go.
As for the avatar Its a guy with his head up his a$$ with the caption "Your problem to me is obvious" I've been using this for years on the net and noticed somebody else on the forum has it. May have to change it here.

I can't give you track days for every occasion....Christmas and Birthdays only!!!!

sawboy 01-23-2004, 01:43 PM Stand back guys,I think we're gonna see a domestic.

Hey thats my dad.:rant
jk. keep us posted. cheaper track days = more track days for me.
highside 01-28-2004, 10:29 PM HELLO!
Count me in too Sawboy(Marky Mark HAHAHAHA!)
Sorry its been a while but, spent all winter on Fleebay buying parts for my bike after it got hit in the coffee shop parking lot by an inexperienced squid with his one week old R1. Oh well $hit happens, she's all pretty now:). Just gimme a date and I'll book some holidays this summer, we're still doing the 3rd annual T.O. ride right?
:jump Highside:jump
sawboy 01-29-2004, 08:34 AM Highside, did you beat his ass????
I'll keep you posted on dates. Right now I'm just waiting to hear back from a couple people that suggested they could get us deals.
ando11 01-29-2004, 08:57 AM sawboy, don't wait too long for the guy i'm waiting on. too many people say they can get you a deal and, unfortunately, very few come through. so i'm not expecting anything, but i will know by the weekend either way.
ando
highside 01-29-2004, 09:22 AM Should have kicked his ass but typical newbie with some hp between his legs. I did alright in the end, ins. payed $7400 for me to fix her, cost me about $2500:D.
I'll keep in touch, does anyone have initial setting for FACTORY
jet kit, just got one and some extra carbs off Ebay.
:jump
Highside(Dave)
modsquadr1 01-29-2004, 11:23 AM $$$$7400!!!!!!!!! WHAT????
that is almost enough to buy a used one.....
what wacky insurance company are you with??? I am seeking a new insurance company... current one wnats $1,500 more for no reason...
highside 01-29-2004, 04:04 PM Yup:D $7400 for parts= almost 5g in my pocket:yesnod
Should I say 5g to student loans:(
Oh and I'm with Primmum, they were going to write it off for excessive damage (cosmetics are soooo expensive:fact ,half inch scratch here=brand new part, little crack in lense of gauges=$900
gauge cluster, little scratch on exhaust can=$680 Leo Vince replacement etc.etc......) Custom paint from pro shop $1350=$3000 in new plastics:rock
And got my renewal, no increase:cool:
Letter of cofimation of claim states %100 not at fault.
Like it could possibly be with me not even on the bike, it was parked in a donut shop parking lot.
Maybe I should have taken the $11 200 they offered for the write off but I figured I'm further ahead with paying off some student loans outright.
Highside
Canuck 01-29-2004, 04:41 PM Good to hear someone else is doing well with Primmum. I just finished a claim with them(thanks for the pipe:) ) and I made off with a shiny bike and $3000 extra.
Yes, we should be doing the third annual TO ride. I'm looking forward to a great season. TO ride, track days, Deals Gap, etc.
Bring on that spring weather!!:jump
highside 01-30-2004, 06:48 PM Here's a quick pic, need signal lights, not sure if I'm going with
oem or the teardrop iridium's I got off ebay. You'll have to see this fade silver to black in person to appreciate it though.
Highside
sawboy 01-31-2004, 08:00 AM Damn, that looks really good.
I'd go with the aftermarket signals. The stock ones look like shiat.
airborne 02-02-2004, 06:01 AM Sweet looking bike highside!
I got my insurance renewal for this season and the fu@#$s put it up another 25% $1900.00 I'm going to be in the clock tower soon if these insurance companys don't let up, one claim in 12 years of riding, and a few speeding tickets ( all older than three years ) so driving record doesn't look too bad and still taken up the hole. Riding on the street may become just a fond memory for me. :dunno
Cheers Chris.
sawboy 02-03-2004, 08:41 AM I hear ya. Unfortunately that the same reason I had to sell my pride and joy last Oct.
I was thinking of building a rat for the street out of an old crashed 89 zx7 until I got the quote. 1100 per year, no collision of fire/theft. I got one quote as high as 1600. Thats what I paid on the R1 last year. Insurance has really gone insane.
When is your policy dure to be renewed chris?
I have spoke to alot of people who are getting their renewals unusually early this year. I think the Insurance companies are sending them out early to beat the rate freeze they are talking abou this spring. I think they're trying to trick people in to sending the paperwork in early. Bastards!!!!
modsquadr1 02-03-2004, 09:09 AM from what I have heard... the rate freeze comes into effect April....
But every insurance company applied for the rate increase in October... So everyones insurance will be going up..
My renewal for insurance is $3,943 full covergae (kingsway) went up $1,500 - 60% increase... no tickets or accidents... :finger
I can not afford that... Have to start calling other companies and maybe get liability only...
sawboy 02-03-2004, 11:48 AM Thats shitty.
If it makes you feel any better I finally got one of your rearsets polished yesterday. Looks good, and kinda familiar.
airborne 02-03-2004, 02:24 PM My renewal is in March and I think the rate freeze doesn't apply to motorcycles, but for me the increase is 40% and thats no good. We will have to see how this year goes, if I'm happy just riding around the track thats were I'll stay, I'll get some thing small and cheap for the street, maybe the manufactures will step up if they aren't selling any sportbikes. Thats enough of a rant.
Cheers Chris. Oh ya got a 12ft closed bike trailer for haulen the scooter to these trackdays. I'm ready!
Chris.:rock

ando11 02-26-2004, 09:44 AM well i finally heard back from the dude who works at shannonville. i was trying to get us a deal on a trackday(s). he said that there is enough business without giving deals, so the boss won't go for it. go figure.
still can't wait.
ando:cryin
sawboy 02-26-2004, 04:41 PM Dammit. Oh well, it's not like I really expected any deals. It would have been nice though.
I'm going to get things moving here.
I was thinking that Everyone could mail a deposit cheque of $50 each. I won't cash the cheques until we have enough people onboard and have finalized a date.
Thoughts?
My only concern is that I'm moving at the end of March. Maybe Modsquad will let us use his address???
stoddy 02-26-2004, 05:01 PM lets do cayuga and when you need acheck let me know
modsquadr1 02-26-2004, 05:14 PM :dollar
yeh... send me money!!!!!!
:jump
sawboy 02-26-2004, 06:35 PM Ok, then here's the plan. PM Modsquad for his address.
Write a cheque payable to Mark Hardie and mail it to Modsquad.
Once I have 15-20 cheques I'll let everyone know and we'll pick a day.
We WILL NOT cash your cheque without notifying you.
We'll get this booked and settle up the balance at the track day.
The sooner we get enough $ the sooner we can book. We've been talking about this for a long time so hopefully everyone is ready.
btw I agree with stoddy. I think we'll try and get Cayuga for the first track day.
Canuck 02-27-2004, 02:42 PM I like the plan for the track day, esp the payment method - very creative. Do you have dates?
Unfortuneately for me, I am going over to the Gulf as of June 23rd for 56 days.:cryin
I will be in for track days from end-August on, of course.:p
sawboy 02-28-2004, 11:53 AM wow, be safe bro.

btw, want me to babysit that machine for ya while youre gone?
modsquadr1 02-28-2004, 11:59 AM how about monday May 31st?? or Tuesday June 2nd???

sawboy 02-28-2004, 02:46 PM Well

Send that deposite in!!! PM for addresss information on where to send the check...
thanks
stoddy 03-15-2004, 08:02 PM come on guys lets get on it june 1st woowoo
sawboy 03-19-2004, 08:03 AM Guys I spoke to the insurance company yesterday. The guy never called me back so I had to chase him down. Apparently they have not finalized the pricing for this year. He suggested that it would be between 800 and 1000 for the full day. Final pricing should be together within a couple of weeks.
This will put the total cost of the track day sat approx $4000. We need around 40 riders to make this happen and to date we are a long ways from having that kind of commitment. Please get those cheques sent to modsquad as soon as possible. June the 1st is still available but until we put the deposit down anyone else could book it. I could look to other avenues to fill the spots but I want this to be our track day.
ando11 03-21-2004, 04:35 PM sorry i haven't sent the money yet guys. i have been waiting for my friends and they were closing on a house (their third) so i've been giving them some time. if i can't get them to commit this week i will send in the couple guys that will go regardless. thanks. ando.
sawboy 03-27-2004, 08:50 AM Ok guys we are starting to book some people from outside the forum. There are lots of spots still available but get your spot booked soon to be sure you're not left out.

David
sawboy 03-31-2004, 07:15 AM David
The date June 1st is still available. We are very close to having enough deposits to book the day, however, If by the time we get all the cash together the date is gone we will have to pick another date. If you can't make that date because of your trip we will not cash your deposit cheque.
r1flyer 03-31-2004, 04:00 PM How many are you looking at for the cut off?
sawboy 03-31-2004, 04:07 PM Max 45 riders, we need 28 deposits to book the date.
stoddy 03-31-2004, 04:19 PM how many you got??
sawboy 04-02-2004, 02:01 PM I collected 7 more this week.

boxing21 04-02-2004, 02:04 PM Who can I mail my deposit to? June 1'st sounds perfcet. I'm gonna call some people this weekend, I may have 5 people interested in participating, regardless, I'd like to send out my deposit so my spot is secured.
sawboy 04-02-2004, 02:04 PM he has only recieved 6 so far. says he has about 10 more on the way.
that would put us at around 23.

sawboy 04-05-2004, 03:48 PM Thanks for rounding some guys up. If we get deposits from everyone who said they're coming we are almost there.
Bike prep: drain coolant and replace with water or waterwetter, Tape or remove all lights, mirrors and signals. brakes, chain and sprockets in good condition. Obvoiusly no loose or broken bodywork or leaking fluids. We are not mechanics and are not going over your bike with a fine toothed comb but just use common sense. When it comes to tires make sure that they are in very good condition. Not only is it unsafe but you are going to have less fun riding around on a half cooked/flat spotted tire.
Cayuga has also been known to conduct exhaust db tests. I can't remember what the limit was I think 104db? not a concern unless your bike is ridiculously loud.
Gear: Full leathers zipped together, motorcycle boots, leather gloves and snell approved helmet. Back protectors are not mandatory but in my opinion a good idea.
ando11 04-05-2004, 03:50 PM awesome, just the standard stuff. i was more concerned with wiring up the filter/cap/plug and that type of stuff. i may do that anyways. oh, and the exhaust but i think the micron will be ok.
can't wait.

stoddy 04-05-2004, 06:51 PM a friend of mine sam is offering suspension set up seminars this summer and i wanted to post it here to see if anyone would be interested in him coming out to the june 1st track day and offering his services.now there will be a fee for this which would be determined on how many guys would be interested in this.here is a little info on him:
I worked for Jordan Szoke for five years winning several Regional and
National Championships. The biggest was the 1998 Canadian Superbike
Championship. I will be attending track days this year to help people learn
how set up their bikes. I will show you how suspension works and how to
adjust it like the pro's. I will supply a booklet with suspension set up
sheets and will go over your bike with you. I will be there the whole day to
help you with ALL aspects of your bikes set up.
A street bike set up course is also avalilble too.
this a great oppourtunity to have you bike work all that much better for a small fee.i for one will be having him do my bike and hope to be able to cut of few seconds of my lap times so either leave me a post here or email me at stoddy@rogers.com .the more guys the cheaper but i do need to know soon so he can book the day off work.
darrin
airborne 04-06-2004, 06:02 AM I'd be into that. I don't think you can learn enough about your suspension. Thanks stoddy, keep me informed.

ando11 05-27-2004, 01:16 PM well guys i hate to do this but the weather looks pretty shitty for monday.
jeez, as of yesterday it was supposed to be 22 and sunny, now it's a 90% chance of rain. those weathermen always seem to be right about the shitty weather.
http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/cities/can/Pages/CAON0128.htm
:(
sawboy 05-28-2004, 08:18 AM 24 with 40% chance of rain, and even if it does rain it wont last all day.
Lets cross our fingers for sun though.
ando11 05-28-2004, 08:20 AM phew, that's awesome, i guess. hopefully it stays this way. i don't know how these weather people keep their jobs since they are wrong all the time. i think most people would be fired for that kind of job performance.:crash
sawboy 05-28-2004, 12:00 PM I hear that. I give them 1 day tops, after that they're just guessing.
ando11 05-31-2004, 02:05 PM hey guys,
we just got home now, it's 330. spitting outside but the roads are still soaked in kitchener. hope you dudes got a break in the weather.
i didn't get a chance to say thanks to sawboy and modsquad for setting up the day. still some good fun, even though mother nature didn't give us any breaks.:( thanks guys, let's do it again.
i didn't bother putting the streetfighter back together yet :crash i'll save it for another day.
going to ontario trackdays.com, i didn't get it out of my system.
i will post up some pics of the wreck mike had, looks like the guy on the r1 that crashed right before we left could have used a frame slider or too, doh!!!:p

thanks to those who contributed $$$ and did not particapte... Some guys still had class and paid their money even though they went home... Thanks guys... Its guys like that can make it so Mark and I do not lose out on this... we are just two guys who love the sport.. we are not in this for the money...
as for other track days.. I might rent Shannonville long track....
but you should check out the"fuzy riders" website... I am doing the July 18th, Agust 21, and Sept 11th with them...
Let me know if you are going to any others.... maybe I can come too....
your brother Mike.... thanks so much for that frame slider... the quality was beyond what I was expecting... great job... and great price too.... (Tanya wants the lines put in hers, so its like mine... hahahah)

Hey Darrin,
I sent an email to Mark to ask if he can send you a check... If not... I will ride out and give you the cash one night this week....
Canuck 05-31-2004, 11:11 PM Wow - 1:00AM and the bike is roadworthy, again. Two new experiences today: highside - lightning fast, and no fun, and road rash under leathers; kind of negates the purpose, doesn't it?(could have been much worse).
The bike - the usual. lever, stator cover, plastics, tank:cryin , headlight. I'll fix most of it when I get back from the Gap; gotta save the cash for the trip!:jump
Thanks again to Mark and Craig for setting things up. I had a great time on a new track. Looking forward to the next one.
r1flyer 06-01-2004, 06:05 AM I posted a thread about Parry Sound in the local meets section. Here is the link.

sawboy 06-02-2004, 05:58 PM Ando
There's a Fuzzy date in July that craig and I are going to. I think it's the 18th or 19th at Cayuga.
We got a pretty good thunderstorm here tuesday afternoon. I'm not sure about cayuga but I hope it rained like mad!!!!!!!!!!
ryatesr1 06-02-2004, 07:18 PM Hey Guys, I got a phone call tonight regarding a track day I was going to on June 5th...the region of Haldimand has voted to close the roadrace course at Cayuga because of noise complaints.
Effective June 4th....
There will be no track days in the near future.
This came from the VP of the Vintage Roadrace Association tonight.
Confirmed by the President.

sawboy 06-03-2004, 07:56 AM Ya apparently thats why our day got bumped. They were voting on Tuesday and didn't want to have anything booked on that date.
Bummer. I guess we had the last ever track day at cayuga.
