OK, I was reading the post regarding launching etc... The plan is to go to the drag strip tonight for some fun. Before I fry some clutch plates, I want to know if they are in danger from one night of racing. I got about 3500 miles on the R-1, I've never clutched up wheelies on it yet and I've only practiced launching it a couple times before. SO I suspect my clutch is in good working order so far.

I figure I'll do about 5 to 10 runs tonight, depending, that shouldnt have too much affect should it?

Also, I think i've got the launch figured out:

1- pull up to the line
2- do about a 5 second burnout
3- lean forward on the tank
4- rev to about 11,000 rpms
5-when the light turns green, drop clutch
6- go see a back specialist :D

are you seriously asking? that list of yours is great! ;)

rev to say 5k.. get rid of the clutch asap.. you're not supposed to use it for more than launching the bike.

I'm myself heading out now to do some racing.. but I'm not so sure.. the threads on my rear tire is showing up.

Id be real carefull of dumping the cluth at 11k. Have you ever laid on your back and let a 400 lb guy jump on you? If so then your looking for the same thing to happen only this time itll be your bike pounsing on you. 4.5-5k is where you need to be, Hold on shifting into 2nd, and 3rd. Theres nothing cooler than doing the 1/4 mile on your rear wheel. I havent draged my '02 r1 yet, but I do drag a '01 zx-6r best so far is 11.2 with only a v&h slip-on, and rear sprocket change. Good luck, let us how it went.

C'mon now, you know that 11K was a joke:cool: I'm pretty sure i'll launch at around 4 to 5k, but my question was about the longevity of the clutch plates. I guess they'll hold up for one night of racing.

The thing that sucks is the track is only and 1/8 mile. So you dont get the full effect. Oh well its all in fun anyways, if I mess up a launch I'll ride a wheelie all the way down the line for the crowd:lol
