I'm trying to hold off until March to start hitting the track again. I just did 3 days in December with crappy weather so I'm gonna wait for things to warm up and dry out a bit.

Then again, I could change my mind tomorrow. :sneaky

I feel you on the weather. This will be my first track day and I'm nervous about the outcome of the weather. They play rain or shine. Scary shat! Fire it up if you can zip.

I did Cal Speedway with Fastrack a few weeks ago and we got rained out around 1:30pm. Unless it's just pissing rain, they'll keep riding. Me and a couple other guys were the last to ride that day and I could barely see out of my visor during that last session.

If the weather's decent, I'll probably go. I'll keep you posted.

No safety wiring needed for Fastrack-sponsored events. I don't even think they make you swap your coolant for water (or Water Wetter).

The most you'll probably need is new or near-new tires, tape to cover your lights and turn signals, and you might need to remove your mirrors.

Here's the Fastrack site for all the info you need:

Yup, just what Zippy said.

I've run with them on the 2 infield courses their last 2 track days and you just need to remove your mirrors, tape up your headlights, tail lights and turnsignals. Don't forget to take off your license plate as well. Oh ya, and tape over your wheel weights (I almost always forget that one!) as well.

I think that's about it. And have newer tires as well. If they look too used in tech, they'll reject ya or tell you to go see one of the tire distributors.

Usually that's about it. As long as your kill switch and all that works properly (along with your brakes - duhhh, but saying it anyway) you're in.

I haven't done the AMA course yet, but just don't have the cash for the Jan one. I think they were supposed to have one in Feb...if so, I'll go to that one. We rode the infield on Dec. 13th and it was pretty fawkin' cold...it made me nervous that my tires woudln't stick...and that doesn't help confidence at all!

Plus, no fawkin' way am I going to ride a track in the rain...nuuuuhhhhuhhhhhh. :no

You'll be going plenty fast on the begginer's level. You can always move up to the next level later in the day when you're ready. I did the AMA track layout last year and it's a blast. I got my bike up to 158mph (indicated) on the front straight.

Especially if it's cold, just take it easy and work on your skills. Try not to get sucked into pushing it too hard.

Laguna for me in March.. two day track camp. Should be a blast, despite the 1700 miles that I have to travel to get there.

You enter through the main gate on Cherry Ave. (on the left) and stay to the left and go clockwise towards the other end of the facility.

Go through the tunnel and veer right (there will be signs directing you). Once you go down about 1/2 mile, there will be someone with a signin sheet. Then on your right are all the garages. Everybody shares. You can fit about 3 bikes side to side in each stall. You shouldn't need a canopy because the stalls are enclosed.

Fastrack has started hitting the track 30 minutes early to get in more track time. I believe the gates still open at 7am but riders hit the track at 8:30am instead of 9am.

I'm not sure. You'd have to ask them. Lately, they've been booked solid and if you show up late you may lose out. Unless of course you're talking about it taking that long prep your bike. In that case, as long as you sign in on time, it doesn't matter.

Check out the website for more info:

Not having to setup my shade/[rain] rig I should have plenty of time. At T-Hill an hour to park/pis/setup/warmup/suitup is a too little time. I'll be o/nite w/sis in O/C fri and have been burned by that LA traffic before-fri and all...I have to reset the ol body clock-I work 2-midn. and don't want to get up to early. The day before track-day is like Christmas eve- your adrenelin [sp] starts too early and you can't sleep

Oh yea, that Christmas eve adrenelin no sleep thing - I know it well. Don't worry about the shade thing. There sould be plenty of room for everyone to park in the garages. They even have power outlets in each stall and shelves/workbenches. Also, they have monitors playing motorcycle / car racing throughout the day. It's really cool. Get there as early as possible.

Btw, they have tire services there so don't worry about access to air for your tires.

Shit, now I'm really getting in the mood to go. If the weather's like it is now, I going.

Hey there,

Normally we get to the track around 6:30 am. If you're almost any later than 7 to 7:30 you probably won't get a garage stall. It gets pretty damn packed. We usually get there around 6:30 am and have enough time to prep and go to the info booth to sign in (other than the sign in sheet at the gate) and get your tech pass. You then take your bike and your tech pass to the tech area (it'll be marked or you can ask anyone around). They will tech your bike and if it's good to go, then they will place a big white sticker on the front of your bike with a colored number on it. (each color denotes a different level/session)

Then you can go back to the pits. They will have a rider's meeting at 8:00 am (usually a 1/2 an hour prior to the opening of the track). During the summer they have it at 8:30 for a 9 am track start.

I'm not sure which level you're riding and/or taking the safety school, but you really don't want to miss the first session as that is the only time they do a sighting lap (they do an individual sighting lap for each level's first time out, so not everyone goes at once). This is important, especially if you're never been on that track before. You get to learn where the entrance and exit to pit lane is off the track and how the track is laid out itself.

So, I'm not sure how much time you need, but you should have plenty of time to prep from 6:30 am until 8:30 am when they go green on the track. Just remember to go to the registration booth when you get there so you can get your tech pass and they can check you in.

I think that's it. Usually I prep my bike the night before so I don't have to do any taping or anything the day of the track day and can just relax or get focused or whatever I need to do. :thumbup

One last thing...PLEASE, PLEASE remember that it will be cold and the track will be cold and your tires will be very cold...don't go nuts the first few laps of each session until you get heat into your tires. I have seen WAYYYY too many riders end their day because they started haulin' azz on cold tires and went into a turn and dumped it because the cold rubber doesn't like to stick to cold cement.

I know you'll hear about this in the riders meeting, but it really is important if you want to keep yourself and your bike in one piece. I almost guarantee you will see at least a few bikes go down in the first sessions because people got stupid on cold tires.

Just tryin' to help...

You sure you guys aren't gonna get rained out.....:dunno

P.S. I wish I would have registered, but I didn't because I was smelling some radiator fluid from the CBR 600, but tonight after, ripping all the fairing off and running the bike for 20 minutes it all burned off and I think it was just residual....

Have fun and be safe.....:riding
