I bought this frame from a used motorcycle parts store about 1 1/2 years ago hoping to build a track bike and never saved up enough cash to build it. I was going to throw it away because I don't have time to try and resell it but I figured I'd give it a shot here first.
The shop I bought it from had purchased the 02 R1 from an insurance company and was parting it out. On the neck of the frame, the VIN number has been grinded off and all the way through the neck of the frame. I was going to have a welder patch this up but like I said I never even got started on this project. I'm not sure how this affects the strength of the neck or if it will be unsafe to ride but the entire frame is straight and undamaged except for the neck area where it was grinded. I guess I'm the only stupid one out there who would have actually tried to patch it up and ride it like that hehe. BUt anyway, I know I can't get much for it but I do think that if it's welded that it can be used for a great track bike. New frames are about $1,100 from the factory and I would be willing to take just about any offer for it as it's taking up space in my closet. Thanks bros and ride safe!
