Plz before reading this post it would be most advisable for you to put any brand loyalty out of the window.
The question is..... I have been looking around on the net for a nice R6, and what year model would suit what i needed. So i got to reading a few discussions on the matter and a few UNBIASED reviews of the R1, R6, GSXR-750 and so on.
The interesting thing is that in more cases than not the bike that best suited my purpose is the Gixxer 750. Now i was wondering whether anyone in here has any personal experience with them. Plz dont begin with the gixxer sux crap cause i know it all already, i have pitched in with the burning of Troy member.

In fact, I was to pick one up on a Tues. when I ran a cross my R1 which had 600 mi. on it for an iuncredible deal on the Sun. before and could't pass her up. If sense bought a Gsxr 600 for track. As far a gsxr's suck, a bit of friendly rivalry is always healthy. All the modern bikes are seriously badd ass!

Griffbo80 01-27-2004, 03:01 PM Buying a sportbike in this day and age is all about personal preference. :fact The majority of people on this forum PREFER the R1... whether it be for the performance, looks, handling, comfort, etc. It's been said here many times, engine displacement, in terms of importance, falls far below rider skill and technique. I have ridden, though never owned, several Suzuki's, and never found them to be as comfortable as the R1. IMO, they don't look as good either. In terms of performance, the 750 is right up there with the R1... very powerful... but, not quite as 'flickable.' For track purposes, I've been told that the 750 is a great mix of handling and performance. For street riding, most people will probably never expolit the horsepower and torque differnces between it and a 600, or it and a 1000.
Just my $.02.

pjm12 01-27-2004, 03:15 PM I have a 2000 model gixxer 750 for the road, fantastic bike my only small niggle is the std sreering damper-too stiff for my tastes. I also have a 2000 model R1 (track bike) and have spent over £3000 improving it (wheels/suspension/brakes). When standard I would rate the gixxer as the better bike! (At least for the track-it all depends what you're after). As far as speed is concerned there's very little difference, except the R1 has much more torque, but rev the gixxer and it's plenty fast. The brakes on the gixxer aren't too good but can be fixed with s/s lines and decent pads. The Suzuki is also surprisingly comfy (I'm only 5'8" so that helps). Hope this helps.........

one thing with the earlier gixxers, is the dodgy cam chain tensioner, which it was better to always get the aftermarket APE manual tensioner.. i believe they have made them better in the 2k series.. also there EFI came out in 98, 96-67 were carbs..
with a few mods they will keep up with pretty much most bikes..
i had a 96 gixxer 750 which i only sold a few weeks ago.. it had 45000 km's on it, from numerous trackdays, commuting, weekend hooning and it was still very quick..

I think for '00, they had both models, cause I had an '00 for a year, and it's the exact same thing, same look as the '01-'03 models.

Anyway, just try to get one of those late models. When I had that for a year, I switched ride a few times with my friend's '00 R6. IMO, I think you'll be happier with the Gix750 if you're taller than 5'8''. Plus I found the Gix was more stable at high speed than the R6. The R6 has almost no wind protection at all. And with its extremely narrow tank, it just doesn't feel that stable at high speed.

if the late models r1 would be cheap and insurance not that bad, i might consider a 2000 year r1 ( but i doubt i can afford this)

I went for a ride a few weeks back with some guys (gixxer 2xthou"s 1x750,2x600"s,1xYZF750,3xZX6R"s 1x R6 and 4xR1"s) i think the gixxer 750 was a 2001 model it gave us heaps allday and he probally used more power than any of us on a 1000cc could.
If the price is right i"d go for it.Only problem i see with it is its not in the blue&white suzuki colours ( i just prefer that colour scheme)
but that looks nice in the photo also
not too sure how are the financing loan rates are in australia ( cos i just immigrated here) ,
but this is what im looking at...
i can fork out 7000 for downpayment.

Two things that I ask you
1. Is this "new" bike going to be your first road bike?
2. What have you ridden before?
If you answer yes to point 1. Don't be a wanker. Get something that you can one, afford to insure and two, afford to throw down the street(blah blah, you will).
If you have 7000 go get a mid 90's Fireblade or a Kawaka ZX6. Don't buy a 250 - everyone knows they suck. Honda's VFR 400 is nuts and can't go wrong.
If you've ridden before and only have 7000 buy a mid 90s 'Blade or a 99 R1 for 7000 and smile all the way down the street on the back wheel baby yeah!

I think that efi is just better for ease of tuning and such, but both work just as well. but with carbs to change tuning you have to do jetting which is a pain in da a$$.

Anyways i am not aware that carbs are any harder to maintain than efi, i never had to have my carbs cleaned out. I mean i think you only have to do that if you leave it laying around for like 10years and the fuel and oil congeal in them.
Yeah make sure that the R1 has been jetted to go with the slip-on, thats a must!
Issues... let me see. It is a common prblem with second gear on da R1's that it likes to fail, so make sure second is as smotth as silk on dat R1. Personally i never had many problems with, just keep it topped up with fuel, good pads and nice tyres and shee'll keep you happy. Maintenance was pretty easy, i did alot of it myself. Changed oil every 4000-5000 kms, keep brake pads fresh and she was as happy as larry.
i never had a problem with mine..

Anyways i am not aware that carbs are any harder to maintain than efi, i never had to have my carbs cleaned out. I mean i think you only have to do that if you leave it laying around for like 10years and the fuel and oil congeal in them.

Issues... let me see. It is a common prblem with second gear on da R1's that it likes to fail, so make sure second is as smotth as silk on dat R1. Personally i never had many problems with, just keep it topped up with fuel, good pads and nice tyres and shee'll keep you happy. Maintenance was pretty easy, i did alot of it myself. Changed oil every 4000-5000 kms, keep brake pads fresh and she was as happy as larry.
i never had a problem with mine..

The bike handles great, revs high, comes with a steering dampner, and top speed is right there with the R1 (considering your weight of course). It doesn't have the torque of the R1 but it will scream! The bike deserves all the credit considering it displacement.

i had a nasty a$$ accident just before i came over here. Thats why my R1 got written off. :( Stupid f00ker in a commodore got me good at close to 100km/hr. Then left me for dead in a dry creek bed just off the road.
