Monoman 01-31-2004, 08:14 PM :hellobye Hi all
Yes it's true. Some of you already have heard about it but I thought that I would put it in this thread for all to see. Just before Chrissie I was to move to Adelaide from Brissie. So what better way to do it than by bike:rock All up, it took 6 days, just over 4500 kilometres and a slightly sore hand. I went through Sydney, Bathurst, Canberra and Melbourne. The trip was well worth the small amount of pain for the roads that I was able to travel on. Here are a few pics of my trip. Enjoy...

After covering all of the road that I did on my trip, aswell as all of the road that I have travelled on before I have got to say that the GOR is the BEST:fact For all of you guys and girls that are from Melbourne, make sure that you get to it as much as you can:thumbup

You da MAN Monoman!!!
Congrats on one hell of a trip. Although there are guys that do longer trips, doing it on a R1,flying solo..cant get much better than that.
What happened on your stop over in Melbourne, didnt you tell all the Melbourne guys you were heading to GOR,or did we miss it??? Yeah we are fortunate to have quite alot of twisty roads here in Victoria, and some nice tracks(including P'Island *cough cough*)so for a sportsbike fanatic-its a great place to live...even if its in Geelong like Dan(Daniel)R1):lol
Great to see you made it there safely in one piece, and looked like you had some nice weather along the way,
Cheers.
:thumbup
PS:Why did you move from Queensland...to Adelaide:confused: *No offence to any peeps from Adelaide:D*
R1 Cr@zY 02-02-2004, 08:37 AM you may have some great roads but you can only ride 30% of the w/e hahahahaha... at least we can ride 90% of the time in QLD, and there are some nice roads to ride up here too. :fact
Jaydee 02-02-2004, 09:13 AM Yeah the other 9% of the time its to damn hot.
And the other 1% its raining.
R1 Cr@zY 02-02-2004, 10:28 AM :yesnod
Jaydee 02-02-2004, 10:32 AM Even then u can still ride anyway :)
jjjr6 02-02-2004, 03:04 PM Pete, he did tell us he was coming to Melbourne, everyone else had something on, but I rode with him down to Apollo Bay, then came home, and he continued on to Adelaide. He is in the defence force, and got posted to Adelaide.

Bloody oath it was fun:D , for the most part. Getting pissed down on as I left Canberra wasn't too good though:(
The only problems that I had was having to top up oil in Sydney and then I knocked my mirror while lane splitting & snapped the little clip holding the right mirror under the rubber cover. No probs with that though, just got some zip ties and tied the arm back the way it was supposed to go.
Mental note: Don't try to lane split through Sydney, their lanes are narrower than anywhere else in Oz:mad:
The only thing maintenance wise that I had to do was keep the chain lubed (lube points were Sydney, Canberra & Melb)

I had a backpack on my back until I got to Sydney. That made me a little uncomfortable so I crossed the straps over eachother to form a cross, then slipped the pillion seat through it then put it on the bike (refer to pic of high risk motorcycle region). That was fine until I got to Canberra and the mate that I stayed with gave me a few things (score:thumbup ), but I needed another backpack to chuck it all in:( . So he gave me a little one which wasn't so uncomfortable for the rest of the trip.
The only supplies I took was a small bottle of oil, plexus (to keep it shiny:D ) and a can of tyre foam (which expoded under the rear seat, very messy:mad: that took hours to clean off).
I would highly recommend taking a Camelbak or other sort of hydration system as I got very thirsty out on those empty highways

I put in a couple of replies into the rider in mel thread but I guess they got swamped by all the other stuff going on. I gave Dan a call but he was busy and I gave someone else a call, same story. But Jords did me well and showed me a few decent areas around the bay, then across on the ferry to the GOR.
Check Jords reply about the move. I am quite happy with it, my fam are in Adelaide and the job that I am doing is absolutely sensational:thumbup :D :thumbup

TEQUILA 02-07-2004, 11:50 PM I agree with you 100% on GOR. The most awesome stretch of bitumen I have ever ridden thru. Well done on the ride - bet you slept well when you got there! Excellent pics...
yammie 02-08-2004, 01:12 AM Gotta watch those Sydney lanes monoman they are about 2 feet narrower than anywhere else ,but looked like a nice ride and all, awesome pics too.
I use my camelback on most rides because im the same ,get thirsty easily,i put red or green make-up cordial the fill to the top with ice,if i need to top up i just buy some powerade.
You been in the army long ???,i have a mate in the Navy leave"s for the Gulf in March
Monoman 02-08-2004, 02:42 AM I'm in the RAAF actually. But I basically do an army job :machinegu but with the air force. Please dont ask to many q's though. Cause this is on the www I prefer not to let on too many peeps know :fact
