Tyre Sox Warmers.

Bought a new set of Tyre Sox on Ebay (minus the cozies) for 175. I wanted Chicken Hawks but didn't want to spend 400. Took them to Jennings and used them for 2 days with a brand new set of Supercorsas. Initially I had been told to put them on for 45 minutes in the morning to bring the tire temp/pressure up and then to put them on between sessions but not to plug them in. Unlike Chicken Hawks the Tyre Sox have 0 insulative properties so after the second attempt at this I decided it wasn't worth even installing them because after 30 minutes the tires were cold. I had been told that if you plugged them in between sessions it was possible to "bake" the tires. I tracked down the pirelli guy after the first couple of sessions and asked him about plugging the warmers in between sessions because the main reason for purchasing the warmers was to limit the heat cycles. He told me that the Tyre Sox only heat to about 130 degrees and that I should put them on and plug them in so thats what I did. He said the older Chicken Hawks and Bakers would/could heat the tires to 185 degrees which could create problems. The warmers were easy to install and remove. The draw strings aren't the most durable design but for the 4-5 times a year I will be using them I am sure I will get my 175 out of them. I checked the tire pressures after pulling the warmers off and then after riding a 15 minute session and there was a constant 2 psi difference. I also used an IR sensor which seemed to really be inaccurate but the best I could tell the surface of the tire seemed to be about 100 when I pulled the warmer off and 130 after the session. They have no thermostat so when they are on they are on. The tires did well for 2 days and performed well. Just for a point of reference I was able to cut a 126.9 after borrowing a buddies lap timer and could have gone a little faster in a couple of sections and it was my second time on this/any track. I had total confidence in the 1st corner of the first lap that my tires were warm and could push fairly hard and at times did. I did get a little slide out of the back in turn 2 at the end of the second day which gave me a little scare but good corrective action kept me from high sideing. I am confident the slide was caused by extreme lean angle with a little to much throttle and probably not the tires. I am pleased with the purchase and plan on using these until/if I need to upgrade which would eventually be to Chicken Hawks.
