Hey everyone,

Well today was not a good day on Mt Glorious. Two accidents before we arrived, and on the way back down the Mt Glorious Rd Petrol took a spill... :(

He's in hospital at the moment about to go in and have his elbow operated on. Elbow is the only damage. Pretty well smashed up.

I won't go into detail on the accident itself - I'll leave that to Petrol. But Jaydee and myself were right behind him when it happened. Scary stuff seeing a good mate sliding into a guard rail... Mind you if the rail wasn't there, who knows what might have happened.

Anyways, good luck Petrol. Hope you're out of there quick smart.

Cheers to a quick recovery :beer

oh that's shitty stuff. I've done such a slide myself.. but I was lycky I went underneath the guardrail... somehow.

Wish for a speedy and full recovery. Elbow damages are bad.

Petrol still had his heart about him tho....
A cyclist was riding up the hill.
By stander "wow your a sucker for punishment!
Petrol "Hey u wanna swap? Its fun! Comon! Aww comon!"
At this point everyone was giggling.

Good to see him keep his sense of humour about him, in a shit situation such as this

His first hit of that green tube and quote petrol "Thats a good squishy!"

Got another giggle from everyone

The bike was mostly fairing damage. The clutch case was a little rashed, the rear brake bent down, and no front brake lever.

Amazingly or stupidly enough i actually rode this bike down the mountain, and took it to where it needed to go. I had a police escort, but im still kinda  as to why i rode it.

I was still in shock, and didnt really realise what happened until i went back up the mountain to get my bike and ride mine down.

My thoughts go out to Petrol and his family.

And to Jack.

I was just a few metres behind petrol, and we werent even goin fast. This kinda stuff is  Something like this can happen to an experienced rider such as petrol, its made me feel very uneasy about :riding

I had a birds eye view of exactly what happened, but id rather let petrol post the full story of what he can remember. And then i can fill the gaps, and post more pics if he permits. But i dont feel its my place.

Get well petrol

Yeah pretty freaky stuff.

But its a reality check for most of us.
Reminds of what can happen.

We all play with fire, and some stage or another we will get burned.

Do we all stop riding because of a misfortunate accident? Or do we continue to enjoy our bikes?
My life would suck if it wasnt for my bike! Its my hobby, its my passion.

Each to their own i guess.

I wish petrol a speedy recovery, and hope like hell to see him on a bike again!

As i said its been 6 months since his acciedent and he"s no good ,its to the point that he even asked the doctors to get his cut off,but i wont go into it.This made me think of how petrol is doing????

I hope you"re mending up well petrol and with no problems.

Petrol got out on Saturday. Didn't want to stay there any longer than was absolutely neccessary so he refused to have morphine and was subsequently let out.

He has 14 feet of metal in his elbow. The doctor told him that the only reason his arm wasn't torn clean off was his dainese jacket which is now in shreds and covered in most of the 2 litres of blood he lost.

He was still not nearly 100% when I saw him on Saturday, but managed to have a bit of a joke about things. The fact is he is alive, so all is well (except for JMR's bike which he feels terrible about of course).

After 8 months of physio he should have around 85% of movement back in the joint. But this means his trip to Canada has been cancelled. And he won't be riding again at this stage...

I think that's about it, hopefully he'll be back on the forum soon to see all the support everyone's given him. Thanks everyone. :thumbup

It's all a bit fuzzy JAYDEE. I was hard on the front and trail braking into the turn and then I hit the road face first and then the guardrail caught me and I don't know what happened then it went bang bang bang bang stop!

The Mrs is not happy for me to ride so I must keep the Mrs happy. I also have been approved for a company car lease which is MUCH easier then a bike loan for business purposes! so I'll get something fun like a WRX or something...

Well here is my version of events.......

****Note most of the guys had never been down that road before, and Petrol was leading on someone elses bike, so no one was pushing. The road was a left hand bend going down hill, but cambered to the right (wasn't noticeable until we were in the corner).

We were cruising down the road, wouldn't have even been doing much above 60km/hr. Petrol and myself were both in the right wheel tracks of the left lane. I saw Petrol begin to brake and set himself for the left hand corner. I noticed the rear wheel lock, and a little bit of smoke come off. I was about 5-10m behind him and immediately dived into the left hand wheel track on the lane, and continued braking.

Petrol's rear wheel skidded in a straight line for a few metres with a few small wobbles. It appeared that Petrol began to track the corner with his front wheel, and the rear wheel stepped out and he was pretty much broadsliding down the hill.

The tyres then "gripped" as if he let off on the brake or what I don't know. And high sided the bike. Petrol was launched off the bike like superman. I saw him slide down the road and into the guard rail. My heart sank thru my chest.

I then had to follow my track through the corner and stop my bike. I got off and ran back to Petrol, and all i heard him screaming was "JACK'S BIKE! JACK'S BIKE! ****! JACK'S BIKE!"

That's pretty much what i saw happen.

I am[you'll never know how bad] feeling gutted that I broke Jacks bike!

The skid would have only been like 5 metres long. Thats 1/3 of a second between fun ride to shit hittin the fan at 60km/hr!

Edit: Considering 0.5 seconds is the quickest reaction time which most of us could acheive.

Yeah we have all had shit hit the fan at one time or another. It chews and gnaws away at you on the inside.

But shit happens!

It doesnt change the person you are! We dont think any less of you mate!
Im sure Jack will get over it.

I just hope you can forgive yourself.

I am certainly not holding a grudge over this...

Never was. Like you say, shit happens.... there is no point getting bitter over something and letting it eat you up inside. I am as glad as everybody else that Petrol is OK.

Thanks Man. I tell ya there's nothing scarier then cartwheeling[or whatever I did] down a guardrail!

Uncle, like everyone else, I am glad that you are alive and on the road to recovery. It is always a bummer to hear when a rider falls, especially when you know them. Take care of yourself mate and now you'll have a nice car to cruise down to the MotoGP in eh? :thumbup
