Thanks for your quick reply. I am still amazed that they are on the streets before being tested and not "reported" in the magazines. I may have missed something, but I have not seen one solid test in any of the magazines available here. But, we just got wind that a buddy of ours in MSSR (Memphis) got one too.

dude, its not like theres a search button or a post intitled "General Motorcycle Discusion" (guess that was the "knowledge of the universe") all he had to do is look a little. No hard feelings though. :hellobye Originally posted by DUFFMAN maybe if you look you would notice he is new and maybe he lacks your superior knowledge of the universe. :lol YES, I AM ALL MIGHTY WITH THE MOUSE BUTTON CLICKER! :lol

I puchased a silver one three weeks ago. I used to have an older FZR1000 which I thought was a beast, but wow, does this bike have the torque and the pull. It's the only bike that really intimidates me. You have to really respect the power of this bike. It's very slim and light, feels more like a 600 in weight, but stays in the corners like it's on rails. With the compression and light flywheel, you mailny use the engine to slow you down when heading into the conerners, however if you need to brake, the bike's brakes are great, and they keep you leaned, not standing the bike up when applied. Won't ever sell this one!!

I got mine in Blue about one week ago. I was waiting for silver but did not have the patience to wait another 4-6 weeks. i love this bike. Under 6 grand on the tac, it seems very docile. Since I have not broken her in, i really can't tell you what she's like above 7. the bike seems to pull very hard through the 6 grand mark. The seating position is great. I am only 5 '6 - 165. The bike is very roomy and seems to be agile. It acutally feels lighter than my 03 954, which in essense, weighed a lot less. The ride is harsh! I need to get the suspension tuned as soon as I take it back for my 600 mile tuneup. You actually feel every bump on the road. I would not suggest riding your girlfriend/wife until you soften the suspension. Lastly, the clutch. The clutch is a little tricky on this bike. It take a lot of getting use to, plus it will take a deft hand to release from traffic lights in a hurry. I have tried adjusting the cable, but it still releases really fast. I will also have it looked at around 600 miles. has anyone riden a broken in 04? If so, how does she ride?

Well I am new to this forum and I get my new R1 this afternoon. I am not new to R1's as I had a 1998 until last spring. I did quite a bit to it, but am not sure what, if anything, I will do to this one. Anyone got much more than breakin miles on one? R

I have 1500 on mine, close to needing a new rear tire, just did my first chain adjustment. I'm weigh 160 pds, if that helps. This thing rules the corners!!!

Well I got it and it is all that the articles promised. Initial impressions. More stable entering a turn than my 1998. Turn in does not appear as quick but mid corner corrections are less prone to upset the rear Power, hard to tell, as I am still breaking it in and I am very careful to follow the break in rules. I have been involved in a long distance move for the last week so riding opportunities have been limited. Has anyone done an aftermarket exhaust? I put D&D pipes on my 1998 and the sound was better, but no real power gain. R

The more I ride my red 04 the more I love it. Almost have 3k on the bike, so its broken in by any measure. I know around 8 things really start to wake up. The tractorable, very easy to ride in town bike puts on its game face. There is a sound that the air intakes make with the box that is about a sweet sound as any next to a built small block running down the quarter. It makes this sound and you know its time to hang on, because it simply just goes and I am about 240 pounds. There is nothing funner now then slamming that thing into corners around 8 grand and pinning it between corners. I have been riding for over 20 years, dirt and street, this is the best bike I have ever been on. The power, stopping, cornering, and the way the red gets a candy effect at night.

Good to swap passionate thoughts with another fanatic. I am working as hard as I can to pack on the breakin miles so I can hear the sound you describe and feel the rush. Your comments about a small block chevy are interesting. My 'old' bike, now my wife's primary ride, is a 1986 VFR750(Polished, ported, 5 way grind, aggressive cam, wider wheel at the rear and 4 into 1 exhaust). Now THAT bike sounds like a small block chevy. I bought the bike new when I lived in Canada so it has KM speedometer etc. When I ride with my wife I never even get a second look - even with me on my R1. She is 5'3" and about 115 lbs so you get the picture. I have been riding seriously since I was 18. I used to race S2 and H2's for Manley Enterprises in Canada. Boy that goes back a way. I remeber the H2 as the bike with a hinge in the frame(not the swing arm). I am now 52 and still can scuff a knee. Russ

Got my blue one 2 weeks ago. Unfortunately, I've been on business for 8 days out of 14, therefore, haven't had as much time to rid her as much as I like. That hasn't stopped me in breaking her in. I've got 770 miles and another 230, I'll be in heaven. Looking forward to going home tomorrow. :jump

Well my R1 is in for the 600 mile service. I am putting on about 90 miles a day commuting and I take the R1 about 4 days a week. Since I am just moving to south Florida, one day a week I am schlepping something to the office. At the current rate I will be free by late next week. I am SSOOO looking forward to that. R

Visited the local yammy dealler today, the bike feels alot better than what I thought (didn't have a demo so it was just a sit on jobie), nice and stretched out riding position. The most expensive of the three (CBR, ZX, R1), and only comes with a one year waranty - chatted with the dealer and they may have some room to move on both price and warenty so thats good. The bike looks so much better in the flesh (and it looks great in the photos) than it does in the photos. The dealer even has the right colour - silver. Waiting for a part for the duc then it's trade in time. Cann't wait.

i've got 3,000 miles on my 04 r1 and have been riding sport bikes for 17 years (i've actually been riding for 18 years, but i owned a harley for a year so i took that year off). my last bike was a 2001 r1 and i sure do miss the low/midrange power. my 01 would launch wheelies from around 5k rpm and up. the front wheel on my 04 won't get airborne until about 9k rpm, which is about 65-75mph. i actually feel like i'm lugging the engine until the bike is around 6k rpm. i'm just gonna say what every other discriminating rider knows if you ride an 04 r1: low end power on this bike stinks. the only reason i haven't sold the silver snail is because around 9k rpm the power comes on like a freight train. if i keep the rpm's over 9k and ride it like a blender, it feels like my 01 r1 on steroids. first gear is ridiculously long, and i'm going around 100mph before it redlines. i guess launching wheelies at 80mph can be fun, too. the clutch is a little grabby, but after the break in and a few hard launches, it becomes a *bit* more forgiving or maybe i just got used to it. the $200 gytr perch and clutch lever helps smoothe it out a *little*, too. it surges and coughs at 4500rpm, and 6500. power delivery overall is inconsistent until about 8000rpm. fabulous brakes. totally, freakin fabulous brakes. it gets hot next to your thighs. it can be a little uncomfortable and stops just short of painful. suspension and handling is the best i've ever had on a stock bike after adjusting for my weight and riding style (ride like i stole it). it's a real comfortable ride for a sport bike. not too hard on the neck, back, arms or wrists. very slim and easy to move around the tank in the twisties. stock tires stink. take a bit longer than the metzlers to warm up. trunk space is tight - really tight. you aren't going camping with this guy. what's worse is that there is no place to lash a bungee net and the plastic cover over the tank makes the magnets on tank bags about 50% less effective. taking the lower fairing off is for oil changes is...challenging. changing the spark plugs is a real pain. this bike would be perfect if all i wanted to do was take it to the track. at high rpm , this bike is a scary beast that'll put the fear of God in you. the only time it comes up short is when you're riding around town trying to make it act civilized.

I just sold my 2001 Gsxr1000. I sure miss it! I now have 04 R1, I took it easy during break in, I was a good boy no wheelies, kept it to the recommended break in procedures and now that I can get on it... well let me tell you this bike has no ass down low. In 2nd have to bounce it hard at 5k to wheelie it. Iam in the Army stationed in Okinawa Japan, and its like 40K to the twisties from where I live, so we wheelie from light to light till we get up north. Up North this bike is a animal I can really ride this bike faster than my gsxr1k. Brakes.. theses are the best brakes I have ever rode on a stock bike. Someone needs to find how to open up the low / mid range, like really quick. If someone has found a way to do this please let me know. Thanks Guys:sleep

I have just finished the breakin miles and I have read the comments of the other riders. My thougts. It lacks the midrange of my 98. But to say that it is gutless down low is a little too strong. I actually like the dual step power band. I can get on the throttle around down, pull hard on a freeway on/off ramp and not worry about the front end getting light or running wide. I just listen for the engine note to change and if I keep it below song it is a calm tracktable kitten. If I want to cause a rush, I just keep the engine on boil, but when I do it takes all of one's concentration because the things are going to happen right now. For those of you who want more low end grunt or easy wheelies, just change the front sprocket 1 or 2 teeth. You will lose about 10 to 20 mph or kph on the top end, but you will get your wish to pull wheelies with abandon. Front sprockets are very cheap and an easy way to solve your problem. I agree with the comments on heat. I commute 45 miles to work in South Florida and getting caught in traffic can lead to a serious cooking. R

I can't believe it. My new R1 just got ripped of. It was locked and had a disc brake lock on it as well. 4 guys with 2 lengths of pipe lifted it tossed it in the back of a van and sped away. They were seen, but no one stopped them. I came out of work and there it was - gone! Does anyone know of additional security that works? Russ

If you can't get the front wheel to come up until 9K somethings wrong. I could get mine up when it was stock at 5500. Now I have a devil slip on and Y pipe, power commander and airfilter and I can get it to pop up at 5k. This bike has some limited low end but when you ride from stoplight to stoplight it mainly just feels streetable. One thing I can agree on is the high end, I outrun my buddy on his busa. Now we dont get up to but around 160 or so when we race, I know he has better top speed but on acceleration hes got nothing on this.
