U know, we have 23,000 members, but we dont really have that many online (130 or so memebers and 30 or so guests) I think we (and I use that term loosely, moreover meaning the mods and anyone else they want to help with this, including myself) should figure out who our active members are. For example send everyone a PM and/or email once a week for 2 months. If that person doesnt respond or log in for 4 months (2 months of getting messages and then 2 months of waiting) they get deleted.? Cuz i know im a member at a whole lot of forums that I never visit anymore. One for example is r6messagenet. I havent been there for probably 6-8months atleast, and its prob been about a year since i posted there.

Does it hurt to have too many members? It can't be taking up any space!

The only thing that it would free up is usernames.

Is there any other reason to get rid of them?

Just to make life a little easier than having to email everyone is to use a built in feature in this very forum's script. You just query the database for users that have visited the forum between now, and let's say 6 months back. You will get a list of all the users that have visited the site since then.

I'd not do it though cuz the cheer number of members attract possible advertisers.

doesnt the forum have to pay a certain amount per username? i mean its not much, but i heard forums had to do that? I could be wrong, if i am, then it really wouldnt be a good idea to delete people.

yer wrong. The person who told you that was just pulling your leg.

This forum that R1-Forum.com use is a forum you pay to use, but only the owner of the site pay the amount and then anyone can use it however and freely they want.

Many pornsites though make new users pay to visit their sites :D

I'm not too familiar with vBulletin, but the board I use has "auto pruning" which you can automatically delete members who haven't been active for a certain amount of time. (this feature also works with inactive posts)
I wouldn't recommend deleting inactive users. Just because they aren't active today, doesn't mean they won't become active tomorrow. :thumbup

Not being a smart@SS or anything but it doesnt cost us anything and if it was costing the forum alot i am sure they would do something of that nature.

That would suck for guys in the military who deploy for six months or more on a regular basis.
