instead of paying the $60 for a new windscreen, i decided id paint the stock one myself.

What you need:
1. Krylon fusion gloss black spray paint (Walmart $3)
2. Clear coat (havent purchased yet)
3. Rubbing alcohol

Once you have the windscreen off, take a rag and the alcohol and clean the backside of the windscreen in order to remover any oils. Next tape off the rubber grommets and anything else you dont want painted. Unless you have lots of time, dont try to tape off the rounded edge at the top of the windscreen. I tried this, but after i took off the tape which i was sure was perfectly lined up, i realized that it wasnt.

Now its time to paint. I did five coats over two days. The first coat should just look like a bunch of speckles. The second should look like a smoked screen. The third and maybe fourth should only be able to see light through when held up to a light. The fifth, it will be completely black. just take your time, and dont hold the can over one place for a long time to prevent runs.

Where I messed up:
I wasnt going to use clear coat, but when i was mounting it back on my bike, i accidently scraped it with a tool which left a small but noticable scratch. I decided id use a paint brush to touch it up. Even though it had been ~5 hours since i had painted last, i ended up smearing the paint, so ill have to take the windscreen back off tomorrow and spray it again, then clear coat it.

Got any questions? let me know.

So where's the final result?

How are you going to see through the screen now? Thats why they make a dark smoked one so that you can still see through it.

But I guess if you dont use it just paint it!

Might as well just remove the grommets instead of taping them!

To me, smoked is better then black, which is better then clear. If i were to buy a screen I would get smoked, but I wanted to save the money and im not good enough to "smoke" a screen, so I did it black. Honestly, I can't get low enough to even use the screen to see through.

Dont have any pics of it mounted yet, because I have to do one more coat and then clear coat it. As for removing the grommets, I pulled on them and they didnt want to budge. So i figured if they were hard to get out, they would be even harder to get back in.

Krylon has some metallic paint out now. I'd like to try that anodized red look on my windscreen. Anyone know what I"m talking about?

yeah ive seen that metallic paint b4. find someone with a stock screen or broken screen, and test it out to see what it looks like, then if you like it, take off yours and do it.

Are you painting the back side? If you go to any hobby shop or RC car place and get the specific paint to paint the lexan cars they have, thats a great paint to use. you can paint the inside and it will look flat but the front side will be perfectly glossy. they have all kinds of colors and you cant scratch the front side cus the paint is in the back. This paint also melts into the lexan and is realy hard to scratch.

Plus you can get candy colors too which you can see through.
