Pools and Cell Phones So If you read the last few days on the Miami Thread some of you know I dropped my cell in the pool while pressure cleaning the roof. Took me a few minutes to get down the roof, find the net and fish it out. Well I was obviously in no rush cuz it is fried right, so it sat in the bottom of the pool till I finished my :beer and smoke and got down off the roof. After I stopped :lol and :cryin , I took the battery out and set it down to dry for a few days ( kinda like the old days when your beeper fell in the school tiolet ) Anyways.... It worked, I put it together and charged it up and now it is working fine.....:fact Now if only we could do that with Prn's an Turks phones.....

I read somehting about take the battery out ASAP, that the water isn't all that bad, but the water and electricity combo is what usually does it in.

I dropped mine in water once (Samsung) and dried it out and it worked a few weeks then died. I noticed that the battery had an indicator to show that it had been immersed. It was 18 months old so it was time to update anyway.

any electrical appliance that does not hold charge in a capacitor of some sort can be submerged in water (so long as it is unplugged) then taken out and dried and should work fine after wards.

I am finding this to be true--- I almost chucked the thing and then thought what the hell, lemme try to salvage this like a beeper... what do you do EM? You do seem to know a little about this kinda stuff...

My phone fell in a glass of fruitpunch. That was a wrap. Ended getting one off of ebay.. T- mobile uses a sim card, that stores all your numbers. I simply popped that into the new phone and was back on and poppin...:thumbup

Don't forget, that phone was on when it dropped into the water. No telling what damage is possible. Even if it was off, some circuitry is on so that a key push can be detected. Pure water does not conduct electricity but water with impurities does. It is just luck if the phone keeps working - nevertheless it has been comprimised and its life was probably shortened. I am an electrical engineer and know about these things. Best of luck!

I dropped my phone down the stairs and it fell in my dogs water dish at the bottom. I took the battery off and let it dry. It worked for about a month, then died. I work in retail electronics, it happens all of the time. you could get lucky but once the corrosion sets in on all those tiny components they are going to quit.

I was on Spring Break 2 weeks ago, and I feel off the back of my buddies Sea Ray at 5 in the morning when I was very drunk, in to a Salt Water harbor, that killed my phone. At least yours was salvageable, mine was a total waste, and it even fried my Sim card.
