And if you think these are used just for traffic delay reports, then you probably believed John Ashcroft when he said the Patriot Act was necessary...
beafer 03-24-2004, 12:39 PM What exactly are you talking bout?
BrokenR1 03-24-2004, 02:56 PM In other words don't stay on 95 if you run?

Jeech 03-26-2004, 04:38 PM do you think those camera pods are set up with digital video recorders that have the zoom technology to grab a plate from a still?
mach5er 03-26-2004, 04:41 PM Its used to moniter traffic conditions Not speeders... Stop spasing.

Well look at it like this....
Monitor traffic conditions huh? Why is that so important to install a closed circuit system when a good used chopper is already inthe sky ( bso must have like 5 as well as some of the municipalities not to mention ALL the local networks )
I am not sure if the have that igital zoom capability, but my cannon digital video camera had a 200 times digital zoom and can literally zoom in on the pores on your face from 60-80 yards, so I tend to think it is possible and economic....
Not that I am paranoid, ( someone really IS watching me ....lol) I just want my brothers out there to take this into account when thinking about a Sportbikes diapearability factor while sporting with the popo.........

It is already in place at all major tollbooths here...so why not.
Just catching the amount of people blowing tolls in a year pays for the system 100 times over...

And that is necessary/cost justified exactly why? Or is it just another service John Ashcroft and our benevolent government provide for us at no extra cost to the taxpayers..... Free traffic reports huh....
Dude wanna buy a bridge?....

Just something to think about . . . I see your point about the cameras being used to watch, which they may be, but do you know how much it costs per hour to run a helicopter? It's ridiculous . . . . not to mention pilot training costs and initial purchase. You're talking several mil per aircraft, which if they already has is negligible. But it's on the order of thousands of dollars per hour to run those things. I would think it'd be only smart to try to save some of that money. . . . :dunno

A very valid point that i'll not dispute, but do you think that is their only function?
Mickey_D100 03-31-2004, 12:35 PM Maybe, maybe not. Ultimately, you'll never know, but my guess is that if someone in a position of authority wanted to, they'd be able to use those against someone somehow. However, I would still say that their primary purpose is to monitor traffic, and my guess is that if they did in fact use the cameras to get speeders, they could get in all sorts of legal conflicts as far as using the cams to get people when their stated purpose was not to prosecute speeders. . .

Seriously though, they usually won't call out a chopper unless a felony has been commited...pretty rare (maybe a sting like they did out on U.S. 27 for the street racers) they'll do it for speeders or runners....it's allways a possibility, so if someone is gonna run they better have a plan where they're going...if its not too late hit the landing paths of ft. lauderdale airport or M.I.A.

On a straight road without traffic, a chopper can't catch a bike :fact
Fanta c R1 03-31-2004, 09:23 PM a chopper might not be able to catch you, but thats because they dont have to. you could be haulin balls, but no matter where you go they can see you, they have like 20 mile viewing radius. dont get me wrong, i still run regardless, just hit up the nearest airport and stay off 95

a chopper will catch you no matter how fast you run...trust me.....obviously the chopper is not going to follow the path of the highway.....rather it is going to fly point to point....if the chooper is on you then you are pretty much screwed...but it will be a while till the chopper gets there, and most cops evens troops won't bother calling for a runner on a sportbike, it is a normal thing here....if you are running in a car that is a different story.
those cameras have been there for a while, and I have never heard of a story about them, first of all they do not have the angle to read a small license plate that is proly traveling 100++ mph..
even at sunpass if you hit it fast, they can not get you in the pic.......of course I might be wrong and receive a bill at the amount of $5000 for past toll charges,
BrokenR1 04-12-2004, 06:18 PM cameras couldn't get plate numbers but could be used to track you somewhat. I really don't think that they would though. What do most helicopters top out at? Isn't it below 200? except the smaller faster (blue) ones which do go faster?

Rofl - I think it might just be the blk/red flamed on that is the fastest, but you never know....
Yes it is true they have been there for a while, and I do not believe they are used to trac us ( yet ). but that is only because it is cost inefficient. When there is sufficient cost effective technology in place in the future they will...I believe that once a cop calls in a runner, a central command control center will snap to grid then just call ahead to wherever there is a nearest officer....waiting, lurking in the damp....dark....night with teeth dripping saliva .... and blood...... AAAAAAAAAAAAHhhhhhhhhhh
Whew it was only a bad George Orwell dream....
Just think about it.... Our Govt. likes to take way our liberties slowly as to not cause a fuss. Just be aware is all I am saying....
prnstar123 04-13-2004, 06:25 AM It would suck if your house was somehow in the picture.. The whole world would see ya.

See, this is the bullshit and JACKASSES you have to worry about.
Retired Manalapan resident Marion Pulis said she thinks the new cameras are a good idea that would deter crime. And she said she isn't worried about them compromising her privacy.
Thats how it starts and its all down hill from here. Hopefully Manalapan will get the hell sued out of them so this shit does not become contageous.
OutlawR6 04-17-2004, 07:27 AM uh oh, some one got robbed.. the worlds not perfect and would be a boring place if it were. to bad most people don't take care of things for themselfs, just wine and cry about it after the fact and wait for some one else to deal with it.. :rant

The really scary part is now a legal precedent has been set , making it easier for other cities to follow suit with or without popular approval....In fact I do not ever remember the traffic cameras going to ballot....
