well i just had my first track day on my newly aquired 03 r1 and i am soo impressed. i stepped up from a 250cc bike and on my first time out i managed to smash my previous personal best time (and thats on stock tyres). the bike was soo smooth through the turns and the power delivery was very smooth and predictable... very easy bike to ride and controllable through power slides... the only problem is the last of lack of steering damper so i got bad head shakes coming out of the last turn over the crest accelerating down the straight... but thats easily fixed...
so now i am going out to get some rennsports and back to the track in two weeks....
at the time when the 04 r1 is hogging most of the attention and praise i just thought i share my thoughts on the 03.. plenty of life still in the girl :rock
