badleymansr1 04-14-2004, 05:25 AM Ok I know this has been asked but not exactly explained from what I have read. --- I just bought a new 2003 R1 (Black Red Flames) and spent my every last penny to get it and I want it louder but do not have cash to do it --- so my next ? is how to disassemble the can to cut down and take baffles and material out to make louder????? I have taken the rivets out then that was it --- I don't know haw it is constructed so I don't want to cut it without knowing that first. --- If someone has pics or can explain this please let me know. Thanx

WHY!?!?!? Just purchase a slip-on. Messing with the stock can is "Hobo" and will decrease performance.
badleymansr1 04-14-2004, 07:04 AM Yes I know its hobo but as I said "spent every last penny to buy bike"
just looking to get a little more noise until I can buy a can as I had wrote.
hooker52 04-22-2004, 09:44 PM If you go to the old fourm how to's ther is a how to install a yosh baffle in a stock can

I have noticed that there are not too many hard core gearheads/fab guys in here. I mean it's just "buy this and bolt it on" or even worse "buy this and have it bolted on". How is it hobo to take something and modify it to make it better? If I can do some work to a stock can and get it to flow like an A.M. can isn't that better then spending money on a way over priced piece.
I am not saying cut it in half w/ a wood saw and duct tape it back up or anything.
Wtf, it's "hobo" lol, I'm the first person to drop money on forged pistons and stuff like that, but that was one dumb-ass statement. This is starting to sound like a rice burner a.k.a. tuner board, and that would majorly suck balls.

Good point, but I guess I should have explained myself a little Clearer...("Dumb-Ass Statement" you say, I hardly think so)
"Hobo"= Chopped, gutted, cut out, made louder, etc... (as stated above). We all know that when you modify a stock can and don't know what you are doing, (unless you are an Engineer Expert of some sort) it will not only decrease perfomance but make it sound like crap.:fact
"Hobo"
mercurial 04-24-2004, 10:43 AM I agree, and furthermore you are going to want the stock pipe if you ever resell the bike, the prospective buyer probably won't be impressed with any hack work you do.
I like to work on stuff too, but buy a damn slip-on if you want a louder exhaust.
Flying_98_R1 04-24-2004, 10:54 AM Is this your first bike?? I hope not, I would just concentrate on learning the power curve and handling and how to respect it so it don't get pissed at ya and uck your ass outta the seat.. After you have learned the above then concentrate on modifying it with the right parts. wot = loud enough to draw enough attention on a R1.. Just my 2 cents
Leave it stock until you can afford a slip on or full system, don't try to rig the stock set up. Talk to some people you ride with, check the papers, go on ebay, hopefully you will find one used and save some money. :riding
Just remembered...
My buddy has a MIG high mount of a 2003 retains passenger pegs and sounds trick. Carbon fiber can and in perfect shape. If your interested e-mail me and I will check and see how much he wants.

unless you want pennies i dont think he'll be interested. not all of us are made of money, why doesnt someone just answer his question? where do you drill?
2nutty 04-29-2004, 06:15 PM i cut my stock pipe down.. when i didnt think 2 bros was loud enough. what i did was cut bout 4 inches off it.. when u take the inside out there is the tube that runs around.. cut it down and reweld it.. it will be louder.. it wont be two obnoxious.. the re rivet the end cap backon.. pretty simple procedure.. if u have any more questions let me know.. my d and d pipe was even easier to cut down.. cut 6 inches out cut 5 inches off the baffle stuffe the end cap back on re reriveted the cap back on and road.. wana talk about loud..!!!
2nutty 04-29-2004, 06:16 PM also on the performance part of this.. i didnt notice any difference what so ever.. just louder.. maybe a pop here and there when decelerating..
03r1atmypace 04-29-2004, 06:25 PM I would like to see dyno chart of before and after :fact I woud bet there is a diffrence. I am not saying not to cut your pipe but I just dealt with it being quiet and saved up some money.:dollar
Wheat 04-29-2004, 08:12 PM :finger Whats up with this HOBO shit! U guys crack me up , go spend 800 on a set of cans and I promise they want help out a bit more than a set of stock cans thats have been tweeked. Dont give me that crap, with the converter removed and one of the baffles out of the stock cans plus 1 tooth down on the front Mine runs great. I have the smog plates comming and i will have a full system soon but for now its QUICK! :butt
2nutty 04-29-2004, 08:27 PM we should take this thread to stunt life lol.. they would all say who gives a crap do what u want its your bike if u are happy with the sound what does anything else really matter? if u look at 90 percent of stunters have their cans cut down to nothing at all.. do whatever u want to do with your pipe i liked the way it sounded when i did it.. but love being loud.. so i picked up a d and d pipe.. cut it down and thats loud!! cop heard me the other night 4 blocks away and caught me as i pulled in my garage.. told me the wheelies were cool but keep the noise level down lol..
Gknight 05-01-2004, 12:20 PM Hey wheatman, do you have a problem with the plates scraping against the wheel due to the rear suspension bouncing?
Wheat 05-01-2004, 12:35 PM No since I put on my real tag I barely bent it back it doesnt scrub and Ive rode it hard.
Gknight 05-01-2004, 01:57 PM Cool, thanks for the info Wheatman.
followmyliterR1 08-13-2005, 03:10 AM k drill all the rivits out of the stock pipe, front and back of the pipe. (reason being i am unsure of exactly the way your pipe comes apart they all are different) with all of the rivits out pull the can body apart from the insides of it (this might take some force and thinking) once apart you will see that the stock pipe will "fold" on its self as you might say. what they did was jamed 6 feet of muffler in 20 inches. so cut all that out, make up a screen tube (about the dia. of you inlet and outlet of the pipe this is to hold back the new packing you put in). assemble it leaving the end cap off and pack the living crap out of the packing and dont skimp. i have done this to many pipes if you dont pack them good they will sound tinny like a pop can. next put on the end cap and rivit all of it together, put it on and you will experence a slip on sound for less than 20$ if done right it will look stock and no one will accuess you for having the loud bike when parked because your going stelth when parked. peace
vcyclenut 08-13-2005, 11:56 AM im glad to see someone finally just answered the question instead of being a smartass,
wheatman, your avatar is not up to your usuall hot ass but shots, she beautifull though i always enjoy your avatar's:thumbup
Wheat 08-13-2005, 03:58 PM Thanks....

SportbikerR1 08-13-2005, 06:13 PM To all the guys out there who implied modiing the stock cans were retarded and to stick to slip ons, All I have to say is obviously THEY the trash talkers should do this because they can't be mechanically inclinded... come on have you ever dismantled a stock slip on??? you know what the hardest parts of them are to make... the end caps and the pipe attachment... oh gee wait we have those already in the stock can. Obviously if you ever look at the cans now there the same for all bikes except the mounting pipe... oh yeah must be rocket science that just WORKs the best on all bikes... not... the cores 90% of the time arn't even production qaulity material... give me a break there rolled stainless perforated sheet metal tacked welled together. Honestly I can make these cores for myself. The only reason i'd ever buy a slip on is for looks... because you know what if i want performance i can make it myself. All you slackjaws that don't know how to use a wrench should stick to shelling out cash to people like me who just make em then sell em. I love the attitude because it comes from a company name "Vance & Hines" its better than anything you could do. Oh yeah a can like the SS2R thats the same for all makes of bike is sooo much better right???? LOL I love idiot mentality. Don't slam the mechanically inclinded because because your mentally and mechanically handycapped.:finger
sportskid1 08-14-2005, 05:25 PM I would try to pick up a stock can from EBAY or something. You can get them for dirt cheap and if you screw it up you have your old can as a backup and you are not out that much. If you are in the SoCal area I could hook you up.
