Explain the boucing method for wheelies

Could someone explain the bounce method to me, I may be doing it already, I don’t know. Firstly my wheelies suck, I can get it up no problem in first. By getting off the gas and then getting back on to it hard. But I ride it up to redline via blipping the throatal, this doesn’t last that long as redline comes around very quickly. And I'm shit scared of changing gear in case I flip my bike. So second gear sounds safer (not so violent). My success rate at this isn’t that great mainly due to not getting on the gas hard enough after I pop the clutch. And so all I do is a weak wheelie or just speed off down the road at break neck speeds. My aim is to lift it in second or eventually third, 90% of the time by popping the clutch or by the elusive bounce. My other question is when you think you have it high, it's not. I have had that floating feeling a couple of times. Is this the balancing point or the flipping point? As I shat my self and slammed that back brake on, HARD. I down loaded a video that "Swedie" put on the video's page. And the guy on the R1 does a load of wheelies that are at really low speeds. How do I do this, (mmm practice) all my wheelies seem to be in a made rush for the redline???

here is an onboard camera that shows when I pulled my CBR900RR up in 6th gear. http://www.demonews.com/mc/6thgearwheelie.mpg

as for being scared of flipping over backwards, try this exsercise.. put your foor on the rear brake and practice getting it up in 1st and using the rear brake to bring it down lightly until you get the feel ... then you will concour your fear of flipping over... use the rear brake as a safety net... When wheeling with my girl on the back the rear brake is a lifesaver... takes some time to master but then you will be ready to get it up high, let it drop a little and hit the next gear and keep it up thru the gears..

and another thing.. when you practice this.. make sure you don't have a constant preasure on the rear brake because then your brake will fade and you'll eventually have no brakepower at all .. so you'll flip the bike anyways..

anyone remember max biaggi and his monster wheelie to the checkerd when he almost looped it and saved it with the rear brake... classic pucker factor moment

Is that light floating point the balancing point.???? And at what sort of angle is the bike at???

That floating feeling......is the balance point. If it was the flipping point you would have known. As for this elusive bounce Method.... Hold constant throttle until you get about 5500 RPM is second gear (with a slight acceleration), chop the throttle (this loads the front forks, they will compress) Now crack the throttle as fast as you little wrist will open it. By doing this the springs in the forks will be rebounding from you chopping the throttle AKA spring is now extending and this give you an extra boost as the front comes up. Just as a side note.....it is much easier to do a "clutch wheel" then the bounce method. It is much easier to control. This way it is easier to prevent you from going over backwards.

 HOLY SHIT!!! Swedie, how the hell did you bring that thing up in 6th gear? I didnt think bouncing the front wheel would let anyone do that! Do you have Turbo or something? That was pretty kewl. :rock i wanna learn,, i wanna learn. lol :jump ~Ed

Sweet that floating feel is the balancing point, now. I have another question. I know that the balancing point moves with each bike and each rider, as were all different sizes. But when you get it at the balancing point is it a really thin line between balancing and flipping. Or is there a little bit of room to move. I also found that wheeling down a slight hill is easier the wheeling along a flat road or up an incline. As the balancing point moves around (back) so you really have to stuff up to get anywhere near landing on you ass. :beer jas
