: Adding switches

I would like to add 2 switches to my '00 r1. One switch would be for turning on/off the fan and the other one for lights (headlight, Tail).

What would be the best way? Also, has anyone done this already and if so, do you have a diagram on how it was done?

Thanks

All you need to do for the fan is put a switch inline for the ground circuit and for the lights put a switch inline at the 20 amp fuse under the seat. If you need more detailed instructions let me know:cool:

The fan switch is easy.

Tapping into the wire were the 20amp wire go to only does the headlights.....is there a centralized place where I can do both headlights and taillights?

If you are doing the lights for what I think you are you need the headlights to stay on and the tail lights off. If that is the case just find the fuse for the tail lights and run through there. If you need a diagram I will draw one up tomorrow.

that would be great but isn't there a site with Electrical diagram of the R1 somewhere on the net? What about the service manual?

I tried to attach it but it is to big. After you open it go to page 76-78 and that should be what you need

Thanks , I already had that service manual but didn't have the wire diagram for some reason. who knows...

I found all of the wires, now I just have to pick out a location on where to put the switches. I was think about putting on that little plastic triangle next to the bottom of the tank where it meets the frame....Don't know yet......But so much for you help

AND I'm sure you guys know what it's for.... hehe :P

If you put them there do you think your leg would hit it?

NO I don't think so.....

Not the plastic piece with the screw in it...the one below that......It's a right angle plastic piece.....Plus I'll be putting a push buttom switch...

:p

Hi, where did you mount the switches ?

I need to put a fan switch in before summer and I'm thinking of the fairing cover just under the left hand.

I still think it is disgusting that nobody makes an adjustable thermo sensor !

I wnat to do the same thing to my R1 (Fan switch)... but I just don't know how to do it ! Can anyone send me or post a spet by step instuction for a dumbass like myself... I'd really appreciate it...

Do you just want a switch to turn the fan on manually?

Yes ! It's quite simple... during summer I want a switch to override the termostat-switch or basically the switch that turns on the fan when the engine temp reaches 100 degrees celcius... Something very simple I've been told... but too complex for me I guess...

I am trying to see if there is a switch that will allow the fan to work normally but will also allow you to turn it on manually.Should not be a problem

To keep the auto-on and have a manual on switch for a 2000 R-1 all you have to do is tap into the green/black wire coming from the instrument panel and another wire to a ground source. With a normal two terminal switch connect your tap from the green/black wire to one terminal and the ground to the other terminal . ;)
P.S. I am new here and have found your info and forum to be a great place to keep up on new ideas.
