Hey guys :hellobye,

I made a few passes at Eddyville Speedway (Iowa) last weekend, and I had a good time, but didn’t have “good times.” Can anyone diagnose what I may be doing wrong by the times I have posted below? My bike is an ’03 R1 with a Yosh tri-oval slip-on. I’m 6’1” and 280lbs. + gear, so I know my times are going to be affected by my size, but I think I should be able to get down into the 7.0s pretty consistently, right? The air temp was around 80-85F all day with mid-high humidity. BTW, I had the front end strapped as far as possible. I’m not looking to do any major mods to the bike, but I want to work on my technique. Any suggestions? Thanks.

whats ur gearing. 60fts should be in 170 or 180's. u might have to add some gear to get her going. what are u leaving at and what is the bike doing?? wheelieing bogging etc???

I'm running the stock gearing, sprocket, clutch, map, etc. The only (so-called) 'performance' mod is the slip-on. I've tried leaving at different rpms, but typically launch at around 4,500-5,000rpm, and roll on from there. I've put it straight up in the air a couple times trying to launch from 6,500 or 7,000. But typically at 5,000, getting away feels pretty good... no bogging, no tire spin. I get off the line, and the front tire just kinda floats to about half track, then sits down. Thanks for the help.

Griff -- 1/8 mile racing is tough on a stock wheelbase bike for alot of people. If you can get you 60' times in the low 1.80's you will be about 7.0's in the 1/8th. May have to go +2 on the rear sprocket and strap the front to get there. You are also a big rider for that bike to pull. just keep at it and ou will see improvement and start to enoy it. Took me along time to go from 9.9's to 9.8's in the 1/4...

If your not having a huge wheelie problem you can gear it up.... maybe go one down in the front and if you need a little more go two up in the back... if you are just running 1/8th mile you have a ton of gearing you can go up on.. Get an anjustable lowering link, like the speedlink and if you want to lower your center of gravity big time.. remove your seat and put a plastic flat cover over the seat area... you'll drop your weight 3 or 4 inches lower into your chassis that way...

Hey Griffbo80, I SAW YOU THERE ON YOUR R1!!! I had the other limited 03 R1........I was proud to another R1 there, Like everyone else said, I start with gearing but then you'll have wheelie probs.....If you saw my bike you know what it takes to keep the front end down, i've got a strap on the front, the bike is slammed, and a 7+ lengthened swingarm, I have a New rear Vortex sprocket for you if you'd want it, its 5 up from stock, that oughta make a big differnce in your times! Let me know!!! ;) I hope to see you down there again on Aug 1st.... or if your going down on a Friday night I can show up to give you some help if ya want ;) See ya!!

6500-7000
the pro vids i have seen they dont even rev the engine hardly at all until they see green, then they use all throttle and clutch to hang it in there as best they can
