cyclebuff68 06-22-2004, 11:22 AM Finally got my 2004 YZFR1 and would like to take some fast rides with other experienced sportbike riders. Friday nights or Sunday during the day is best for me. I usually like to go to downtown Naperville to meet up / hang out in front of Starbucks.
I have already found some fun roads in my area (Romeoville) that I can show some of you who may be looking for some advanced fast moving riding!...
I would also like to find someone else in my area that has a 2004 YZFR1 to compare notes with.
nuihc01 06-24-2004, 07:44 PM I live in Romoeville and would be interested in hangin' out and riding. Lemme know. I don't have a new 04 and all but my 02 isn't too shabby.
cyclebuff68 06-24-2004, 08:21 PM nuihc01,
Great!....give me a call at work (630) 887-3089 and we can hook up. I'm working late alot this and next week. My name is Tad and I live in the Wesglen subdivision west of weber rd on taylor rd.
Or give me a number I can call you at.
Tad
Vcook 06-25-2004, 10:40 AM ah, the old naperville starbucks, it will always be a hangout. I'm getting an '01 this weekend. I know most of the decent roads in the area, see you guys out there soon!
nagaro4 06-25-2004, 10:48 AM I live north of you guys, but would be interested in some riding.

cyclebuff68 06-25-2004, 04:47 PM Nagaro4 and / or nuihc01,
Give me a call at work 630-887-3089 tonight (before 7:00) or give me a number I can call you. Planning to ride tonight (Friday June 25). I am riding a red 04R1. I have an all black jacket and an all black helmet. Reply back or give me a call before 7:00 if your interested in tonight. I will check this board before I leave for naperville probably after 10:00 PM tonight. If you reply to this give me some detail on how to find you (bike color, jacket color, helmet color ...etc.)...All I know so far is that nuihc01 has an 02R1.
Let me know
Tad (cyclebuff68)
nuihc01 06-25-2004, 07:02 PM Damn, I got stuck at work and didn't see this until late. I'm heading into Naperville at around 8:15 pm as well. My 02 is the red & white one but it's got a black tail section, Akro slip on (full exhaust waiting on my benchmark dyno runs), black and charcoal tapeworks kit, etc. etc.
I'll be in a bright red dianese jacket and a Suomy "gambler" helmet.
My cell is 815-258-2166.
Hope to see ya. If not, maybe next week.
later..
Jr.
Oh yeah, I also live in weslake in wedgeport circle at the far sw corner west of budler.
nagaro4 06-25-2004, 10:38 PM Went riding before I saw your post and I was in Naperville tonight as well. Maybe next time.
cyclebuff68 06-26-2004, 12:44 PM Nagaro4 and nuihc01,
Sorry I missed you guys last night I realized about 11:00 that I fell asleep in the recliner, I must have needed it!....I didn't even check this board before stumbling to bed.
What are you guys doing tomorrow. I just met two other guys that live in Wesglen this morning, one has an 04 GSXR 1000 and the other has a KAW. XZ-9-R. They are talking about a ride tomorrow afternoon-ish.
nuihc01, I have you cell # so I will call you, actually I called you just now so you got it now.
Nagaro4, Call me at work this afternoon 630-887-3089 on my cell at 815-600-0988. After just now talking to Nuihc01 (J.R.), we are planning an early tomorrow morning ride leaving from his house at 8:00 AM. If you get this message today call him on his cell (number below) and he can explain where his house is so you can join us or we can meet you somewhere. We are planning to take back roads (south of I-55) toward downtown.
Vcook, I went on Chicagolandsportbikes.com and it looks like they all meet at a Restaraunt in Villa Park on Wed. nights at a place called Strat's Restaurant: Here is the phone number and address: (630-832-0435, 231 E North Ave Villa Park, IL 60181 ) We will definitely go there some Wed. night. What color R1 are you getting?...we will look for you.
nuihc01 06-27-2004, 10:18 AM Cool ride today Tad. I had a blast. I'll be out of town until Thursday so no riding till later in the week. I do want to hook up with you and Theo (04 GSXR 1000. I know....) maybe this weekend. By then, I should have the dyno up and running so we could probably take a ride out to the shop and have some fun with it.
Anyway, thanks for the good time and I'll catch up with you later....
Jr.
Oh yeah, additional contact info for me.

cyclebuff68 06-27-2004, 04:03 PM nuihc01,
Wow things happen fast!....Left you this morning went to church, then to work, on my way to work I stopped by Theo's house to see if he wanted to ride with me on the way to work, he did, we rode, he crashed!....Amazingly, he didn't get hurt!.....He was wearing his skull bucket and a tank top!.....It hurt me too to see that brand new 04 GIXER 1000 with scratches and dents!...We were taking international parkway off of the south I-55 frontage and there is a corner that has a hump in the middle of the corner, ....well it screwed him up and he hit the curb and flipped off the bike into the grass. Before I left there were 5 cops there. Tell you the rest of the story later (there's more)....
See you when you get back.

Cool, Maybe this upcomming Wed. I can swing it. What timeframe are you usually there?...Because most likely it will be late (after 10:00) before I can sneak out without yanking the wife's chain!....and it will probably take 30 min..well make it 20...well make it 15 (lol) minuites for me to get there from Romeoville.
If it works out I'll see you there. Do you know anyone with an 04 R1?....

Sorry dude, its pretty much dead there by 10pm. People start rolling in around 6:30, and people are generally there till 9-9:30. After that people ride!!
And yes, I know a couple guys with '04s. I did stainless brakelines on my friends '04 about 2 weeks ago.
cyclebuff68 06-28-2004, 01:32 PM Speaking of brakes, did any of your friends with 04's report their front brakes dragging?....not anything dangerous like sticking but sometimes when I am crusin around without a helmet (so I can hear better).....when I apply the front brakes to brake hard they are really loud (dragging sound), but after I let off I can still hear the same dragging sound just less volume.
The next time I hear it I will stop and lift up the front wheel and spin it to verify that it trully is dragging. I know the shoes never fully disengage from the disk but mine seems a little excessive!...
Just wondered if you've heard anything.
Tad
nuihc01 06-28-2004, 01:39 PM Damn Tad, that sucks about Theo. Any word on how he's doing? I'm out in Philly right now (sucks being without my bike) and the weather's kick ass! I officially get back Wednesday night around 9:00 pm so I prolly won't get to ride until Thursday. Maybe we could sneak out for a couple o' three hours thursday eh?
Lemme know or if there's a group ride on CLSB.
Later...
nuihc01 06-29-2004, 12:08 PM FYI Looks like some CLSB guys are riding tonight up by woodfield.

nagaro4 06-29-2004, 12:46 PM If you guys want to do some riding tonight i'm available around 7.
cyclebuff68 06-29-2004, 03:11 PM Can't tonight. I am taking my 10 year old daughter and 7, count em 7, tweenie bopper girls to a skate party!....I am also trying to work overtime (58 hours / wk) this and next week, so I'll be honest it is going to be hard for me to do anything during this week or next. Unless you want to ride late (after 10) than maybe tomorrow or Thursday other wise its going to be the weekend again.
nuihc01 06-30-2004, 06:37 AM Hopefully you made it through the evening.
cyclebuff68 06-30-2004, 08:17 AM J.R. I did make it out alive,....barely!...I had glow-in-the-dark juice all over me though!...
Give me a call when you get back into Chicago. I can't ride tonight (unless it is after 9:00) but I am trying to work out tomorrow night. I realy want to check out the dyno but I can't leave from my house until 8:00. If that works for you maybe some of these other guys would want to meet us somewhere and come check out the dyno too!.. Let me know.
Tad
nuihc01 06-30-2004, 10:51 AM CB68, my flight don't get in till 9:00 is tonight so I'm thinking tomorrow nigh I'll be ready to go. For dyno stuff, I'm thinking Saturday morning might work. It all depends how far my business partner got with it. I don't want to p!ss off the moderators so I'll keep dyno talk to a minimum until we can pay advertising costs. I've also been kicking around a discount for forum members. It's something I also need to talk to the business partner for. He rides ducati and suzuki (I know) so he'll prolly wan't to do something similar for the GSXR forum.
Anyway, I'll give you a call tomorrow at your office.
later
cyclebuff68 07-01-2004, 05:06 PM So nuihc01 what's up, I never got your call at work!... I think I am going to play some hookie this evening and go over to Highlands Yamaha in Countryside just cause I've never been in there. I want to get a prices for a valve adjustment from them too. Speaking of, what does your dealership charge for a valve adjustment. I am due!...I am trying to find a dealer or shop that will adjust valves, balance the throttle bodies, install a powercommander and map it on a dyno, all for one low price!...
I went to Strat's Restraunt last night and met VCOOK (Chris). There were 50+ sportbikes there, no 04's though.
I may be able to hook up this evening for a short ride otherwise Sat morning looks good.
Let me know

you're due for an adjustment? its ever 26k miles for my R1, has that changed?
And you'll have a tough time finding a decent dealer than can do maintenance work AND do good dyno tuning work. I'd look into a performance shop to just do it all. 4&6 racing in Skokie does some outstanding work.
And nice meeting you Tad!
Chris
"Vcook"
cyclebuff68 07-02-2004, 06:30 AM Vcook,
Well DGY where I bought it said to get the valves "checked" at 600 miles. Well I never did that because a guy at WIN racing in Naperville told me that very few of the newer sport bikes that he has "checked" after break in needed adjustment and that I should wait, (unless I hear something or it starts running bad). Well it is not running bad but I am starting to hear the lifters rattle a little in the morning when its cold. It just started doing that at about 2000 miles. So I guess at this point I am not sure what to do. I guess if lifter noise when its cold is normal I will leave it alone but it still bothers me!...
CB68
nagaro4 07-02-2004, 06:51 AM as power commander mapping 4&6 won't do it. i called last week and they said they will no longer do power commander maps. the guy i talked to proceeded to try to sell me a new computer that they sell.
Vcook 07-02-2004, 07:14 AM First of all dont go to DGY for any type of service, I can tell you some stories man(and i dont mean other peoples stories, I mean mine).
I didnt realize 4&6 didnt do powercommnanders anymore, thats odd! I'm sure that if you had one on the bike they'd dyno tune using it. They prefer some other devices as they consider them superior units, but I'm sure they'd still dyno tune and load a map for a powercommander if it was on the bike. For more information you could post in their forum on CLSB, they are site sponsors and as such offer a 10% discount to members. (For the record I wouldnt pimp them just cause they sponsor, they really are top notch!)
cyclebuff68 07-02-2004, 11:14 PM All,
nuihc01 (JR) and I cyclebuff68 (Tad) are going riding in the morning early. We are leaving JR's house around 7:15 AM. My cell phone number is 815-600-0988 and JR's is 815-258-2166 if anyone wants to join us. We are planning a backroads ride South of Chicago and ending up on the south end of the lake in Indianna around 9:00 AM at his shop. I may be able to talk him (JR) into going up LakeShore Drive from there. I heard that the BP across from the Rock&Roll McDonalds (Downtown Chicago) is a meeting place Sat. Mornings, so we may end up there too. I am writing this late so sorry for the late notice. Give us a call in the morning though. I may not hear the phone on the bike but I will check periodically for missed calls and messages.
Tad (Cyclebuff68)
Vcook 07-03-2004, 12:16 AM Dude that BP on ontario is a meeting place ALL THE TIME. It always has bikes. Becareful though, the police have really cracked down on it since some guys roll in there and really hose up that guys business(blocking pumps, reving their motors, not buying shit).
have fun on the ride dude, i'll hook up with you guys next time!!
theR1 07-05-2004, 06:22 PM Hey guys... i'm new to this site. I have a silver '04 R1 I live in the Naperville area and i'm looking to meet up and ride or hang out. We use to hang out at the Starbucks in Naperville, but that got old real quick.

Hey "theR1" ,
Glad to find another 04 owner, I almost got the silver one!...but I ended up with the red. I am anxious to see yours. Have you eliminated the fender yet?....I have a kit to recommend if you haven't. Give me a call at work during the day 630-887-3089 or on my cell otherwise, 815-600-0988 and we'll hook up. I just put mine on a dyno last Saturday. I would like to see dyno results for yours to see if they are any different. I took the catalytic converter out of mine and put a BMC race filter on it, so I am curious if it really helped or not. It feels like it but they dyno will tell the truth!...I know the guys that own the dyno, and they would probably do it for the bargain price of 40-50 bucks!..... I better not speak for them but if your interested let nuihc01 (JR) know.
As far as hangouts, The chicagolandsportbikes.com guys are at Strat's restraunt in Villa Park on Wed. nights or at the BP across from the Rock N Roll McDonalds on Sat mornings and other times too (acording to Vcook, never been there myself). But if you ever want to go on a spur of the moment ride give me a call, the summer is already half over!....Riding is one of my highest priorities!...I just have to make bargain's with the wife to pull it off!...but she is usually pretty cool about it!...:bow
We usually write it here too if we are planning a ride so stay tuned!..

theR1 07-06-2004, 10:01 PM Thanks for the welcome guys! i'm gonna be real busy this weekend... Doing the annual midnight run charity event this Saturday and paintball both Sat and Sunday. Hope to get together with you guys soon and ride!
By the way, I am interested in getting my bike dynoed since its still stock i can baseline it before mods.
nuihc01 07-07-2004, 01:35 PM What's up with Saturday's midnight run. Is this a motorcycle event? I must have missed it but I would be interested in a charitable event like that. Please let me know.
Also, give me a call and I can give you some details about getting you a benchmark on your bike.
theR1 07-07-2004, 04:26 PM Here is the info for the midnight run... Its this Saturday July 10th. If you are interested, give me a call. We are all meeting at my buddy Tim's house at 5:00pm and then heading out.

cyclebuff68 07-09-2004, 05:56 PM theR1
I am planning on going but I can't leave at 5:00 so I'll have to meet you there like at 9:30-10:00 PM. I think nuihc01 (JR) is going too later but I need to confirm with him tonight. I guess registration ends at 10:30. Take your cell with you and I will try to call you when I get there. I will have mine too, (the number is 815-600-0988).
I left you a message on your cell today wondering when they usually pull out and arive but I found out by calling the number on the website that they leave around 11:00 and start ariving at the end around midnight - 12:30. Call me back anyway though.
See you there.
Tad (Cyclebuff68):riding
nuihc01 07-20-2004, 01:39 PM theR1, I am planning on doing some additional benchmarking with the dyno this weekend. I just slapped on a full Akro Race series so it should be fun. If you or any of your friends are interested, lemme know. I'm not looking for a group of 30+ people yet as we are still starting up. I'm just looking for a group of "beta" testers who are willing to have their bikes tested on the dyno at a discounted rate. Once we get established, our intent is to service the forum brethren for pulls, mapping, etc. at a discount as well a provide additional small scale services like tire changes, power commander installs, etc.
Lemme know if you're interested.
nuihc01 07-20-2004, 02:52 PM Will also be playing around with it Thursday between 6-8 pm if anyone is interested too.
Call me at 815-258-2166 or Greg (my partner) at 312-479-5922. Tell him you are from the forum and he'll give you directions etc.
theR1 07-20-2004, 03:01 PM Unfortunatley I am busy this weekend... But i need to get on a dyno, I just installed new sprockets last weekend(16/47)... OMG this thing is a total beast, unfortunatley the speedo is now off by like 10-15 mph. I bought a spedo-healer and need to install it, and calibrate it. Later:thumbup
nagaro4 07-20-2004, 05:04 PM will you be able to do power commander mapping now? or is that something you can only do in the future?
nuihc01 07-22-2004, 04:49 AM In the future but we are not too far away. We will be getting our certifications from dynojet and then we'll start doing custom maps.
nuihc01 07-23-2004, 02:32 PM Gang, we are having a small informal gathering to do some dyno testing this Saturday. This is prior to our formal Grand Opening. Anyone interested, please contact me at 815-258-2166 or Greg at 312-479-5922 for details.
This is limited to R1-Forum brothers and friends.
