Unfortunately, it's probably you and countless other employees all piping through the same proxy server and making more network hops than you would at home.

Moto works.....? I thought you lived and home with moms and surfed porn 24/7 ...

motopsyko32

The site has been a little slow.. some of it is the indexing.. I know you guys think it's funny and all but after a thread reaches about 75 pages it causes the filing system of the forum to have to create a larger file to send a user the info.... databasing nightly and things like that do help but its not a fix.. I spoke to Dean about it briefly and it seems that everyone was more concerned with losing a few posts then site performance...

im not getting into this whole argument again, but i think the babe thread takes up mmore server preformance than the miami thread.

motopsyko32
06-28-2004, 04:40 PM
kill both threads if it improves the site performance!

The site is way slower than it was when I started coming here. It isnt a big deal or anything. But I would stick a 30 day limit on post or something, if it was killing my site.

I didn't know there was an argument...

Then it's a good thing you don't run this site because putting a 30-day limit on posts for a site that is consistently used for accessing archived information doesn't make much sense at all in my opinion.

THings are all cool here... was trying to put a little fun at moto.. lmao...

We did find out that larger threads cause database issue but the newest version of vb might fix it so no worries...

motopsyko32

Sometimes it is super fast for me and sometimes it slows down. I assumed it was just my conection. If Spidey has to do something with the the treads or whatever I am sure he will let us know, but he said there are no worries. :)

I'm on a T3 at work, and a DSl at home...either one is slow sometimes...especially comapred to sites like 600rr.net or something. Never did figure it out. Seriously though, if it's a matter of hardware, i'd be more than willing to drop a few bucks (me times a few others gets some nice toys) to upgrade servers and things...

I would also be willing to lay down some cash!

I don't know if this is an option for Shane or not, but I'm sure he will let us know!

We can all send via paypal or something. we could also have a raffel or something and we can all go nuts buying tickets to raise the money? Just an idea

personally, i think the server they have is pretty hefty if i remeber correctly.
It's probably more due to the total number of threads, as well as the number of large ones.........

i haven't seen another forum online that has the same number of active threads as well as the same number of large threads.

So i blame MOTO!!!!!!!!!!!!:finger

Server performance is nominal given the amount of traffic we generate; mind you we push a phenomenal amount of multi-media traffic. (Over 1000GB per month). IMO, a few don’t realize how many visitors/members we serve on a daily basis; our sponsors only cover a portion of operating costs; the primary cost of forum support (bandwidth contracts, servers and software/database support) comes directly from my pocket; that fee is comparable to a monthly mortgage. That said, I’m preparing a new generation of server (our 3rd); this server will be released in conjunction with our vB3 release (see below).

As for vB3, we've tested the new product; alas we literally have dozens of behind of the scenes changes in the current generation of code that will require additional programming for the switchover; this will 60-90 days. In the meantime, the forum is stable (we have over a 98.9% uptime report); enjoy.

Thanks!

I hope I am not opening a can of worms here but why not make this site a pay site like something like a dollar a month I think it would help with the money situation. but what you can do is let browsing be free and to post and stuff you have to be a paying member that way you dont loose any business because people can still browse but in order to post you have to be a paying member. maybe a dumb idea but it might be worth it instead of a big amount coming out of peoples pocket.
