I was looking at purchasing a 04 R1. I want to know anyone's impression of the 04 vs an older model. Other than handling. Comfort, midrange etc. I'm 6'1" for anyone commenting on comfort.

Any bike will be tuff on the nut's and wrist's at first. All R1's are fast. If you have the money, get a '02 or newer so it's fuel injected. Feel's smoother but carb's are good too. They also come with led tail's stock. I heard the '04 is best for track and '03 - older is better for wheelie's and stunting. Some dude at the dealership said this, don't know for sure. Hope that helped, peace

Depends how much you want to spend..... period !!!!! Speaking about R1's only you can buy a 02-03 r1 and mod it and it will be one fun ride for about the price or less than an 04 r1. You can do the same with a pre 02 r1 but I'd stay atleast with an 02. Or you can buy an 04 and mod it and it will be as good or better in damn near every area over any older r1 . My current 02 is plenty fast and handles very well. BTW the 04 is in my opinion more comfy than older r1's including mine (02) :(

I gave a 2004 silver R1. I just fryed my clutch with only 2,106 miles. I hear the clutch was garbage and I have to agree!!!

There is a huge diffrence etween the 04 r1s and erarler moddels a small diffrence beteen 01-02 and almost no diffrence between 99-2000 Spend a little extra for the 04 if you can afford it the older ones are relatively cheap right now though.
