I recently purchased a FogCity Hyper-Optics insert for my OGK. The 2 main reasons (other than being lazy) I purchased it, was because an aftermarket (not OGK OEM) black shield did not fit properly (even with adjustment), and my Respro Foggy did not fit as well in the OGK as in my previous Arai.
I tried the OGK tinted (free) tear-offs, but for on the street, they look kinda squidish, in my opinion. So I figured the Hyper-Optics would kill two birds with one stone.
The FogCity Hyper-Optic insert is made to perform two functions, 1.) Eliminate shield fogging 2.) Change color when exposed to UV rays, and change color/tint, so that you don't have to swap between shields.
Here's my take on the performance-
1.) Anti-Fogging: It works excellantly, does the job very effectively, even on cool (45-50F) mornings to date, there has been no evidence of fogging with shield closed completely.
2.) Color change/tint effectiveness: The insert changes color very effectively, in approximate 3-4 seconds, from a very light green, to a cobalt blue. It does not hinder night vision at all, and on cloudy/overcast days it is fantastic. But here's the catch- on extremely bright sunny days, even at max color change, it would only be comparable to a light smoke shield. If your eyes are sensitive to bright sunlight it will not be as effective as a dark smoke (or darker) shield.
So in essence, it performs the tasks its designed for, but will not completely eliminate shield changes on extremely bright/sunny days, unless your eyes are not as sensitive as mine. And the packaging/advertisements leads you to believe the depth of color change is greater than it actually is :yesnod
At this point, I'd rate it a 7.5/8.0 out of 10 :thumbup
Below are photo's of it indoors (no change), and outdoors (max change), for comparison purposes :yesnod
