I have a 99 R1 and have always rode with a 190 Dunlop 208 sportmax r on the rear and a rr on front. Ime going to change to a set of Pirelli Diablos as the front end let go recentley without any warning and caused a great deal of dammage. Not sure what size rear to go with my local dealer has said a lot of people are using a 180rear esp on track days. What are the advantages of this are there any disadvantages. after the crash i am lacking in confidence on tight fast corners :dunno

They use 180's on the back for racing for faster cornering. However, the 190 has a bigger foot-print when in corners and is more stable, just turns in a tad bit slower.

Maybe the more experienced riders can tell u more but I think the foot print is larger with the 180 when you are in a turn. When straight up the 190 would have a larger foot print. Do a search and you will find a lot on the subject.
