Let's get organized fellas... 09/10/04 is the weekend after Labor Day weekend.. 2nd weekend in SEPTEMBER.. Dwayne has the truck rental LINK handled, we confirmed it today..

Who ever can contribute as much info as possible is appreciated.

GENERAL INFO:

Deals Gap is a narrow valley between the Great Smoky Mountains through which people have traveled for hundreds of years. The road was eventually paved and is now a stretch of US Hwy 129 that leads from the western mountains of NC into TN. In recent years, it has been affectionately referred to as “The Tail of the Dragon”. It became known as the Tail of the Dragon because of the unique shape of the road as it appears on a map - there are 318 curves in the first 11 miles!

I know where we can go to BBQ, right next to the dam, there is a national park .......next a river, pretty cool spot......the onlly thing is that I am not sure If I can go that week......

just called my curator, seems I can make it that week...plus I called the lodge.....which is basically less than a mile from the beginning of the gap $79 a night for a cabin (2 double beds) we can get two cabins next two each other........when I was there I stayed at the lodge.....they have food three times a day (home cookin).......pretty convenient, you just warm up your tires then hit the gap.........any time you want...ohterwise you have ride up there any time you wanna ride the gap.....I think the closest town is like 14 miles away, also the lodge is the only place in area where they sell beer.....

from bryson city to the gap is 30 miles, that would make a 60 mile trip anytime when we want to ride the gap, something for you guys to consider,

Not a dry state by any means, but I do recall that being a dry county. You will have plenty of opportunities to buy alcohol before you get there, depending on which larger cities you go thru b4 you get to the Gap. Charlotte and Asheville will likely be on your route once you reach NC, and would have anything you need.

I've stayed there a couple of times in their apartment. Owners are really nice people. The apartment is located below the restaurant.

i AM CHECKING INTO THAT PLACE WITH ROGER WE MIGHT JUST GO AHEAD AND RESERVE IT TODAY.

alright we put a reservation in for that phillips motel place we reserved a 3 bedroom but it has 4 beds so whoever picks up a local gets their own room.

damn I am going to have to condition for this trip that road looks very sick. when we go up there I will not have anyone of our crew fall so we all need to be carefull up there. that road looks crazy but yet fun. as a matter of fact I think I am going to hit 9 turns tonite.

my stepbrother is going to the same town we are I just found that out. his grandfather lived there and just passed away so he has to go there to pay his respects.

I know but I dont have three hundred to drop on a leather suit before the trip.

I want a complete leather riding suit to wear for trips like this or for those days I know I'll be riding hard...
It would be admittedly hard to wear it as religeously as Broken does ......... But I would be more comfortable knowing I was protected while out riding hard......

my step brother is up there now in bryson(sp) city he said he is going to try and get to the us 129 todaY AND CHECK IT OUT. yesterday he said on the drive up he was tearing up the mountains in my sisiter's little echo sounds like he had a lot of fun. he said the weather is great in the 70s and droping down at nite in the 60s so I guess we better bring some warm clothes for riding.

it will not take much money if there is 5 of us splitting a cabin broken you could pay less and get the couch or something cause there will be only 4 beds so we can work something out. but you may have to bring your truck and we can all work together for the gas money. I dont want people not going because of a money issue this trip shouldnt cost much money.

if broken brought his truck that would work out perfectly cause I dont think beafer.s trailer would be to safe with 2 bikes on it going up and down mountains and stuff

I am going to try the metzler m1s for the gap I have the diablos now so I think I am going to switch up then I can decide wich ones I like better.

180/55 race tires is the way to go for the gap.....last thing you want there is slipping tires

I was talking about a 190/55 which is a spec tire........not able to find. also I am gonna have a decent take off while changing tyres...... I am just changing to match the front GP to the back.........

Where are you guys staying? I'm gonna be down there with GPD270 and a bunch of his friends. Were staying at Fontana, which is right off US28, and a few mins from US129 (the gap). How much are the trucks we're getting? And the cabins are 125 a night? So with 8 or so peeps, 4 per cabin, $375 for 3 nights is like $95 each? I'm guessing $150-$200 total not including food and misc stuff. Sound right?

You guys are doing the right thing staying at Phillips, it's really laid back with nice owners. Miss Reba is like a grandma to everybody that stays there. If you get too loud too late she'll come out in her flannel gown and say"don't you boys need to get some rest to ride motorcycles tommorrow?"

Don't plan on chasing around hell and half of Tennesse because you'll be whipped a** out from doing the twisties. If you need any info about the area let me know. I might even come up and chaperone you boyz.

It takes 10-12hrs to get here from Miami and another 4-5hrs to get to the Gap.

What time are you guys leaving on Thursday?

actually the tire was looking good until last saturday we went on a little conditioning run and after that I looked at my tire and it looked like I did a serious burnout with all the cords showing. so now I really need a tire I think I will get a set this week.

Hey Broken......the R6 guys message net guys were at the Gap again this past weekend. Hope that you've been doing okay.

187...I'll be glad to help you guys if you need anything just let me know.

FYI a trip to Maryville will be about 1 1/2 hours from Phillips each way. Not to mention you'll have to cage across the Gap both ways. Party at the hotel and save your energy for the riding......you'll need it.

Look forward to seeing you again if you make it up there.
