Just wondering if anyone sells any ram air kits for the '01. I have no idea if they do or not or if it's even possible. I know Airtech sells a pressurized airbox for $300... I'm not sure if that's a rip or not. Appreciate any advice.

Cheers.

THANK YOU SIR!! I was looking all bloody day for that site. Cheers very much :)

So, any of you fellas have one of these? Do they work?

you will have to get their jetkit too and make some small mods to the carbs;

if i were you,i"d consider adding a flo-commander to the kit.

I already have the Dynojet stage 1 jet kit on. Would I have to replace it? Also what's a flow commander?

Cheers.

Thanks for the link. Damn those things are expensive.

Okay, now here's a quick question. I own a DSM (Eclipse) so naturally I like to fabricate stuff :) . Would it really be so hard just to cut a hole in the stock box and add a funnel to the front of it? It looks like the ram air box is about the same size/dimensions. What do you think?

If not, does anyone actually have one. Any noticeable difference? Anyone running the aftermarket velocity stacks on there also? I'd like to see some dyno numbers too if you have them.

Cheers.

My friend got ram air for his R1 (Think it was Qb but can't remember) We played around with the jetting for ages and never got it as good as the stock airbox so we took it to a dealer, still no luck. They can be set up properly, but it's a bitch to do so. He finally just pulled it and sold it on ebay.

Yeah it's looking less likely right now. I think I may just end up going up 2 teeth in the rear (might be going to Laguna in a couple of months).

Martinc: you mentioned a "flow-commander" before. What is it? Is it different from the power commander? I also have a '01 so it's not for fuel injected bikes is it?

Cheers.

its not just a snorkel, its a much bigger volume airbox too...and there are even bigger ones(dutchmann racing)

http://www.dutchmanracing.com/

which have dual inlets and enclosed carbs design(i"d want one,but you need to cut the rad-or get an aftermarket racing rad.......hmmmmmmmmmmm......hehe)

a few carbs mods are possible depending of the temps(yes, sometimes a bit of fiddling "cause of temps is needed with ramair)
but all in all,i"m sure someone somewhere got your work cut out for you....need a hint?;)

robert at graphicart has one such setup bike in his shop right now...stock box with snorkel and balancing hoses...with plumbing hardware!

no clue as if its working.

and as far as dyno sheets goes, its worthless,,you wont ever see the top end gains on a static dyno.

i can produce a nice curve, but it will be too lean for road duty.

i got the qb box and stacks.
the flo-commander is an adjustable main air jet(work for all 4).
a must have even with full pipe and jetkit.

yeah, its for carburetors, its an adjustable main air jet,in the pic on the site, you see the 4 red tubes going to the main airjets--easy to install fittings (installation tool included)replacing old main air jets(removing tool provided in the kit) with a balancing chamber which is equalizing air going in the carbs or asked for by the carbs...you adjust by turning a small knob inside the airbox...no more carbs removal.
it mimics,to an extent,a needle adj.,a float height mod,or a main fuel jet swap.

Wow, Martinc, thanks for all the info. That flow-commander sounds interesting. Now, I may be going blind, but I couldn't find a price anywhere on that website :iamwithst

How much do they run? I have the full titanium arko system, dynojet stg 1 kit, rpm ignition advancer but no motor mods. So I should see some gain from this right?

Anyone else have one too?

yes,its about $125 if i remember, but with a discount when mentioning my name or site name.

gains,of course.
start at the factory setting(stated in the "manual" then go from there(lean out)a 1/4 turn at a time till you reach the best setting.
dont change anything on your jetkit setup.

its better to adjust it on the dyno though...but seat-of-the-pants testing is good too.
after each 1/4 turn(leaning the jetting)you should make a high speed run9say 4th gear)to check if the bike pulls redline....if it doesnt,richen 1/4 turn and you"re set.

Martinc: Thanks for all your help. It's really appreciated. So this thing is sort of like a carb sync for your mid range? Pretty cool. I might have to pick one up. I'm planning for a track day sometime next month. I still need to pick up some Airtechs and Metz RS1/2s :) I'll be getting one of those digital gear indicators too. It'll be awesome :D

Cheers.

Hey man, I might be interested in it.... we can take it off-line.

Now, the deciding factor in all of this is whether or not my Dynojet stg 1 jet kit will work with this box. I know of a few ram-air kits now that I can get for pretty good prices. If I can just pick it up without changing the jet kit I will... otherwise I'll pass on it.

How does one go about tuning one of these things? Do you just carb sync it again after putting it on??

Sorry for all the questions, this is quite new for me :)

Cheers.

my take on this is you need leaner needles tapper in the lower portion of the needles to compensate for the waaaaaaaay bigger main jets.

hey,i"m using 165 where the stock bikes run 130"s and piped bikes run 132.5-135.

Martin: I'm running they dynojet kit... any idea as to what size those needles are? Also, could I keep my existing jet kit and compensate for the ram air kit using the flow-commander or is it better off just going for the Graves jet kit?

Cheers.
