Fastest Wheelie?

Well on Thur i was doin a wheelie on an open freeway.... brought it up at around 5000 rpm's in second going around 50-60mph and wrapped out 2nd gear, shifted into 3rd.... rode third out.... at about 130mph (i beleive) i set it down.... (shift light came on) got the good old shimmy shake and set down a FAT strip of good ol rubber on the pavement and my bud (behind me of course in the GXR 1000) said i disappeared in a beautiful cloud of smoke..... ok ok... my question is what is the fastest wheelie you guys have done... and what is a safe speed to drop it at? i know i know i need a dampner.... but after the Akro and PCIII this killed my budget :) thanks guys!

All I can say is be careful out there. I've rode a wheelie to about 100 then back off. Even with a dampener, at those speeds it's very dangerous. Maybe once you have a wife and 2 awesome kids, you might wuss out like me.:yesnod

I think my best would be around 105 mph give or take a few. wasn't going for speed just to see how long i could hold the balance point and then realized when i set down how fast I was going.:finger

on my last r1, stock blue 2001 i got up to 116 on the speedo. dont know how fast i was really going but i brought it up around 60mph in second. on memorial day weekend i was trying to shift on my champions and flipped it backwards at about 60mph. ive been ridding for about 4 weeks with a broken taillbone. i got some road rash and a pretty could concusion, too. the gloves and jacket helped save my upper body from rash.:butt :butt :butt :butt

It was this past Saturday. I was coming back from a day at the lake. My 02 R1 is having a new set of carbon fiber dymags put on so I was riding my buddies Gixxer thou. He's got his bike all juiced up 750 velocity stacks, PCIIIr Two Bro's exhaust, yellow box and 2 up rear sprocket. Were talking 154 dyno certified to the rear wheel. Anyway I'm flying along doing about 90 when a Porsche 911 turbo and a new Vette going flying past me racing. Now most of the time I would just let them go have their fun, but I was feeling kinda saucey so I lit off after them. It took me just a few seconds to catch up and pass the fancy cages after wich I proceeded to make them disappear for a while then slowed back down to my cruising speed of 90. After a bit the cages caught back up to me and slowed down right next to me. There we were cruising side by side @90 I looked over at them, but the guy in the Porsche just looked straight ahead. We cruised this way for about 2 minutes then I looked over one last time beeped the horn kicked it down to 3rd pulled in the clutch revved the engine and dumped the clutch... Bing, straight up she went, I just kept her hanging in the air until I was approaching a pretty sharp corner. When I set her down I looked at the digital speedo and it was reading 133. So to make a long story short the response to your question would be 133.;)

Dido! The fastest I've done is 130 mph. I would bring the bike up in second gear around 70 mph, ride through that gear and shift into third! Awesome feeling smoking the front tire when you sit it down at that speed.:jump Of course, i have no kids or wife so my priorities are all on my bike.:D

i set mine back down at 137 one day but usually i don't even look at the speedo just set it down at a speen your confortable at

130 indicated 3rd gear.

What ever the speed is then it redlines in second. Lifted in second, @60km/h riden to redline. (my longest wheelie yet). Laws broken: 1. Failing to keep both wheels on the ground. 2. Dangerous driving. 3. Speeding (it was in a 70km/h zone. 4. Plus numerous others. Fun factor mmmm i think you know.:rock cheers,:beer

120 brought it up in 2nd and shifted into 3rd and slowly she wondered to close to the edge of the pavement to keep it up.

Something like 108 I think. Or whatever the end of Second will get me to.:)

116 mph in 2nd on my R1, 132 mph in 3rd on my old '00 GSXR 750. I have a buddy with a '01 GSXR 1000 that drops 3rd gear wheelies at about redline, I think thats around 138/140 or so. Talk about a smoke cloud.

I am not trying to piss anyone off but but if your riding wheelies at 130+ you are chasing them. I bring mine up in 2nd at 55 and take it to 80-90 and then I hit the balance point and can go as long as I want at that same speed can even take very minor corners and change lanes. The only time I hit 115 -120 was when I was learning and was chasing the hell out of them. I guess the reason for this post is because I see this from time to time about how fast was your fastest wheelie and where I come from if your accelerating that fast then your chasing them and you will eventually run out of motor before you run out of road. .....just my 0.02

God I hate doing wheelies and reading all these stories about 100 mph plus wheelies makes me nervous for you guys. SO BECAREFUL, and for god sakes please tell me your wearin all your freakin GEAR! Sorry to sound like a concerned parent but **** ME, 120 + on 1 wheel! Holy shit! No thanks, I'll just be the pussy in the back "posin" with my R1. :( I just like to have all my full body functions, like peeing, walking, masterbatin, ya know??? I'll just stick to knee drags or whatever.

135 mph. And yes, I was "chasing it". But it's kinda cool all the same.

105mph or so, verrrrrry top of second gear. To the bike's credit.. no damper, and she comes down smooth as butta everytime, not an ounce of headshake. When i start droppin it down at 120+, then i'm sure it'll be time for a dampner. and Rizzer is right, i'm definitely chasing them. I pop it up around 65-70, and then ride it out for around 10.. maybe 15/20 seconds before 2nd gear is pushin into the red. I need to start working my way past the "balance point" so i can maintain a steady speed, rather than just running out of gear.

I chased a 135er. Pulled her up at 80-90 in 3rd and brought it up to 135. Yay. Now my bike is crashed and I dont have a licence. To make a short story even shorter.... Anyone want to buy an R1??:(

i heard somewhere the speed record for a wheelie was set by a japanese dude on a super blackbird and he went 305kph (190.6mph).thats not a fact, thats just what i heard.(actually, i think i heard it on this site):beer

I don't know what mph it was but I hit the rev limiter in forth on my gixxer 1k.I don't like to do them at that speed anymore because when that front tire hits it takes a little bit to get it up to speed.Makes for a scary landing sometimes.:eek:
