I need to purchase a good steering damper for a decent price. Any advice would be great.. This will be for 03 Silver R1 Please post websites that I can order it from if you could. I really like the OHLINS one but the price is a little steep.

not sure but i'm interested in a good damper too. i think they're all around $400 when it comes down to it though. I'm interested in the HyperPro model and the Ohlins model. I wonder if anyone has the HyperPro model and if the active valving feature is a plus or a minus

The GPR kicks @ss, I had that one on my old bike (02 R1). Works very well, I don't remember what I paid for it, I think it was around $325.00

Thanks, No, the damper is easy to install...very easy, and it's worlds better then the stock unit. I haven't had a tank slapper since upgrading to the Hyperpro. I do run it stiff though, 2 clicks out from the max...I like it though.

I've alwys been a big Ohlins fan.. Run the graves/ohlins setup on our 02-3 r1's at the shop... but for 04's the new hyperpro active dampers really impressed me. I really like the way HyperPro mounts there damplers, the kits are very well thought out. If the hyperpro Here's links to both 02-03 R1 setups.. http://www.tobefast.com/detail.aspx?ID=68 http://www.tobefast.com/detail.aspx?ID=72

I picked up a M. TOby damper from ebay for a 165 bucks... it was a biatch to install but it has worked out great for the money. I cant see spending 400 bucks on one . I will send you a pic if interested. THe only complaint is that it rubs the peice of the frame that holds the nose on when i turn... .. just my 0.02 :thumbup :thumbup

I have run Toby, Daytona, Scotts, Ohlins and a couple of others that I can't think of right now. Toby is the best for the $$ because its cheap. I would never get another Daytona. Scotts I would get if I were only riding on the street. But I buy ohlins.

www.scottsperformance.com Incredible service. Hi speed and low speed dampening which I believe the fore mentioned dampers dont have.... I like the hyper pro, and Ohlins but I believe the Scotts is more versatile, and Ohlins actually designed it and licensed it to Scotts... good luck

I believe the one who started this thread is looking for one for a 2003, as am I. the '03 doesn't come stock with a steering stabilizer. From the feedback, i guess the Scott's is the way to go? No track riding for me (closest one is in NH a little over 2 hours away), simply street riding.

I have a Scott's on my '03. Quick install of less than 30 minutes, and very easy to adjust on the fly. The only negative I've really heard about any of the above mentioned is some of them may rattle a bit.

I have the Scott's on my 03 and love it. I had it on my R6 and when I picked up the R1 the dealer put it on before I even left the showroom floor. I've rode my friends r1s without damper and scared the piss outta my self. When the front end lightens up and just skips across the top of the, not so smooth, pavment...... I've had friends with the ohlins and after they had the thing mounted right they loved it. The mounting had a tendency to be loose and vibrate. But either way - buck up and buy one. If you bought a good helmet, there is no reason you shouldn't put the $$$ into the damper. I've found it to be that important. Then again, if you never get on the throttle I guess you would get by. But then you really don't need the R1 :p
