Hey ya'll... Pit Bull has been developing a new steering dampner. They designed the mount for the 2002-2003 R1's based on my bike and I have the first one on a R1. Charlie and the guys put it on Friday and I haven't even had the chance to test it out or take pictures. Hurricane Ivan postponed that for me. I will get pics and post the results after the ride this coming sunday. The mount is still pre-production but it is pretty close to what they will look like upon release.

Just thought I would let you know that they are coming in the next few months.

Here is the straight on pic. Like I said, it is pre production! when the production units come out, the mounts are going to be anodized black or possibly matching the housing of the damper. I know I saw a red one, and I think I saw a gold and silver damper housing also. I will post more pics when I shrink them.

So I finally got to put some miles on the bike to test it out. I tried to get a touch of the shakes and couldn't get it to. Hard on the throttle skimming the wheel, small wheelies crooking the front a bit, and powering the front up coming out of a corner and still couldn't get it to budge. It had a great feel and it is definately confidence inspiring. Can't wait to put it to the test at Barber on turn 4, 6, and powering up over at the bridge. It will be a couple of months before I make it there again, but I will update the post when I hit the track again.

Looking to be competitive in price with the Scotts and the Ohlins. (somewhere around $400 more or less seems to be the norm for most of these) I really like it so far. I am not affiliated with the company other than living close so I have a fairly unbiased opinion, but I haven't ever had a bike that had a dampner other than the stock one if at all. This one is definately an upgrade from those.

Looks really large....

the unit itself isn't any larger than the scotts, I believe it is a little smaller. The difference is that instead of removing the steeering head nut and replacing it with one from Scotts, this one has a mount that goes around the factory nut and lets it sit just over it instead of attaching to it.

Sorry... I have been out of town for work and haven't had a chance to get in touch with Charlie. I got mine directly from the factory. I will be home on monday and part of tuesday so I will make it a point to go and talk to him about prices and if he can get more out the door soon. Sorry about the delay.

What about 04 fitment??

I talked with Charlie this morning... He said that the production numbers wouldn't be available for another month. But they are coming. He has a 04 R1 mount and a ZX-10 mount on the way so for you guys with the linear dampner, the rotary upgrade is in the works. Retail is $400 ($397 or something like that just to have it less than $400) and that should include the dampner, mount, and the hardware to mount it.

Sorry it took so long to get back. I travel every week with my job and it is kind of hard to get back over to the shop to get updates.

I will keep you posted though.

Hey Chris...
Ask them the following if you could. Will it work without stock OE clip ons?? and secondly what if you dont have a stock triple clamp???
Thanks for keeping us posted.

... I asked him about what would happen if it didn't have the stock clip ons because the allen bolts that hold it on screw directly into the clip on mounting bolt holes. His response was that they had a spacer that they just put on a R6 that had different clip ons and they put a nut on the bottom side of the tripple clamp to hold it down. so half of the asnwer is yes... it will work on the factory tripple without stock clip ons.

The other half I don't know about... If there are holes in your tripple clamp then yeah it should work.. if there are not any holes, then you may have to drill them to bolt the mount up. They were trying to not have to have anything drilled but aftermarket is a different story.

Email them at pitbull@hiwaay.net and tell them your set up and maybe they can work something out after the production line is released. You never know.. you may be the first with that set up.
