I've been trolling the forum here now for about 6 weeks. I've learned a tremendous amount of what I consider valuable information from here already. I used some of that information to help me find a pretty much like new 2008' R1 Raven with 4,300 miles on it and none of the bugs listed here on the forum. I've put and additional 750 miles on the bike already so it's now over 5,000 miles. The bike still has the original tires on it. From what I've read here 5,000 miles on the original tires is a pretty good feat. The tires probably had another 1,000 miles of easy dry road life left in them until I picked up a nail in the rear tire today. I plugged the tire for now but figure I better get new rubber right away.

I just got back into sport bikes after being off of them for about 15 years. I'm slowly re-learning the capablitlies of both the bike and myself. I've only ever ridden street on my bikes and never at the track. However I have raced and run cars on road course now for about 15 years. I'm not a stunter or street racer, I just enjoy riding the back country twisty roads and using the bike for my work commute (12 miles of pretty boring 2 lane stuff). I enjoy the twistys but don't get super aggressive. I have done a few laps on my local highway ramps (cloverleaf) to test myself and the bike resulting in about a 1/2" "chickenstrip" but I am in no way a rider that would probably get the proper use out of a pure "sport" tire. I may do one track day next year in the beginner group just to get more familiarized with the bike. I'm pretty much a fair weather rider as far as rain goes, so wet traction isn't a big importance to me. So from what I've picked up here from reading other threads I believe I'm looking for a Sport/Touring tire.

What tires do you guys suggest I look at that would best suit my riding style and have good value for my money??

Could you also give me some suggestion on where I can find the best deal on the tires??

Well, the recession finally caught up with me and now I find myself in the same boat as a lot of others; unemployed. The area I'm in is just now really getting hit, and we're losing companies and jobs left and right. I've read about local companies laying off or planning to lay of thousands before Christmas. So, at this point after much discussion with the wife I'm starting to consider going into the Army.

That being said, I'm 35 with BS in Psychology. So, my active duty options would be in the Army only (too old for other branches) and I would be putting down OCS in my contract to join as an officer. I'm hoping that 6 years active duty would get me the training I need to find a good stable job once out, plus the experience and contacts I might need as well. I keep looking at the computer field, and dont have the time/money for training, so this looked like a solution as I would get paid while training. (I'm really looking at Military Intelligence Office or Signals Officer for my MOS)

So, that being said, what input can you guys give me? Prep tips for Basic or OCS, good MOS selections for better job opportunities at the end of the 6 year enlistment, etc. Thanks for the input guys, I really need some info from guys who have been in and gone through all this already.

A co-worker of mine has been going through the jury selection process for the last couple weeks (for a 2-1/2 month trial) and has tried EVERYTHING to get out of it, due to the hardship it would create personally AND at work. He even had a couple of his managers write letters stating that an absense that long would cause a financial hardship for the company. The letter was given to the court attendant (jury commissioner), who in turn said that the judge didn't need to see the letter.

Long story short......he was picked as 4th alternate and has since been moved up to 4th juror. The case still hasn't even begun yet. Our company only pays for 10 days of jury duty. At that time, vacation time has to be used, and once that time is exhausted, you're on your own. My co-worker could conceivably lose his home because of this, since he's the sole payor for his mortgage.

Any suggestions???????????

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday and many thanks for any words of advice for my friend.
