Well, this story starts the same way Redgecko's did when he bought his 50th accept I went into the shop to pick up a lettering kit to update the registration on my boat so we could put it in the water...

Long story short, I'm talking to the salesman who helped me out with my sticker kit and bikes come up. I look to my left and see a anniversary edition R6, commented how nice it was, and jokingly told him I'd be in trouble if you had an anniversary edition R1 in here. Well, on the way out the door, I looked to the left again and see this:

So I did one of these :bow:scared , told him I HAD to leave, and then ran for the door; it was to late...the seed was already planted. I could NOT stop thinking about the bike all weekend long, and ended up going back to the shop the following Wednesday and put a deposit down. I did some more thinking and decided it was time to go in and pick it up.

I must say I feel very fortunate to be in the position to pick one of these up and put it in the garage. Here's a few picks I've got:

I still haven't had the chance to install the parts I have listed in this thread I originally bought for the 05, so I've decided to put them on my 12:

http://www.r1-forum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=327871

Only problem I'm not sure what I'll do about is the fact the 12 has a speed sensor on the front wheel so I'm not sure how I'll mount the sensor to my new forks, anyone out there have any suggestions?

I've also ordered more stuff and am waiting on it to show:

- new hot bodies windscreen
- new integrated tail light (installed this morning)
- fender eliminator
- steel braided lines front & rear
- 15 tooth front sprocket (already have a 43 on the Carrozzeria V-Track wheels I bought from SSPilot and a new gold chain waiting to go on)
- flushmounts (am going to order a set of Watsens to replace the hot bodies I ordered)
- swingarm spools

*I'm going to order rear sets today, but I'm really stuck between Rizoma's, Vortex, and Gilles. Any suggestions? I put Vortex on my 05, and was happy with them, but would like something a little nicer as far as looks and design.

I still need to order quite a bit, but I think I'm off to a good start right now. :thumbup

- solo cowl
- exhaust
- levers
- lifters
- filter
- etc, etc, etc...

Thanks for looking guys!

UPDATE

FedEx showed up right as I was walking out, brought my fender eliminator, flush mounts, and spools:

UPDATE: 4 Aug 12

I'm still working on getting my hands on a good condition used Akrapovic exhaust, but in the mean time I've had a few additional goodies show up and get them put on:

Sato no-cut sliders

Lightech adjusters with Gilles ti axle nut :thumbup

Updated shots

I've only got about 400 miles on the bike so far, but have plans to get the following put on when I take it in for the 600 mile service:

- Carrozzeria wheels -- I've heard breaking loose the factory rotor nuts are a beotch :nforc: and I have to get the traction control sensor ring off of the factory wheel and install it on the new wheel.

- Brembo front master cylinder
- stell braided front/rear lines
- front 520 sprocket and new chain to match new rear sprocket
- clip ons -- might give this a shot myself, I'd imagine it's pretty easy and as simple as pulling the top triple off, and then removing/installing new ones...

Still waiting on/working on:
- waiting on my solo cowl from Yamaha Canada
- waiting for the word to send money for the Rizoma rearsets I'm picking up from burn-z. Soo stoked for these! :flex:

- sourcing 108mm caliper mounts for my Ohlins, as the set that came with it were 100mm -- I bought them used and the guy selling them opted for the 100mm setup for some "custom project" he was working on. :dunno
- harris perch/brembo clutch lever combo
* I know there's more I'm forgetting, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

I'd like to do most of this myself, but I don't have the right tools. Long term goal is to get a good set so I can pretty much all of the work. For now, I'll let the stealership take care of it for me.

Thanks again for looking! :thumbup

UPDATE: 11 Aug 12

Well, I had a few more goodies come in and just finished putting them on:

Akrapovic slip-ons:

M-4 mid pipe:

Harris cluth perch with Brembo lever:

I'm stoked with the way it's coming along so far. My wife keeps looking at me like I've got three heads everytime a package comes in, but it's all good... :hammer::flex:

I've got plans to get the following put on when I take it in for the 600 mile service. Yeah I know, I should've already had 600 mies on it, just haven't had a chance to ride much lately. :crash:

- Carrozzeria wheels -- I've heard breaking loose the factory rotor nuts are a beotch :nforc: and I have to get the traction control sensor ring off of the factory wheel and install it on the new wheel.
- Brembo front master cylinder
- Spiegler steel braided front/rear lines
- front 520 sprocket and new chain to match new rear sprocket
- clip ons -- was going to do this myself, but I don't have a socket/wrench big enough to do it so I'll either try to borrow one from a friend, or just have the stealership do it for me. :crash

Still waiting on/working on:

- waiting on my solo cowl from Yamaha Canada
- waiting for the word to send money for the Rizoma rearsets I'm picking up from burn-z. Soo stoked for these! :flex:
- sourcing 108mm caliper mounts for my Ohlins, as the set that came with it were 100mm -- think SSPilot has helped me source a set. :boobies
- sourcing Cox radiator guard
- sourcing ECUnleashed
- sourcing Graves velocity stacks
- sourcing Graves smog block off plates
- sourcing Graves clutch kit
- sourcing Woodcraft covers
- sourcing Harris flush fitting fuel cap
- sourcing Ohlins TTX rear shock
- sourcing various ti mounting hardware -- brakes, forks, etc...
- sourcing Samco hose kit with Samco clamps
- sourcing various various carbon fiber bits
- sourcing full size belly pan

* I know more I'm forgetting, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Thanks again for looking! :thumbup

Finally got my solo cowl in... :thumbup

Also finally got my steering nut in. I need to either put a bit of paint in the two holes where the bolts secured the OEM clipons or find some small plugs to fill them up:

Next big things to do are a flash, rear ohlins, and MDI is working on a fullsized carbon belly pan that I'll pick up once it's available. :yesnod

Question: I've got a couple of very light scratches in the white part of my right mid that show a bit of black from dirt or something being in them. I've tried to clean them, but didn't seem to have any luck. Any suggestions on how I could remove the scratches and/or get rid of the black that's on them? I haven't tried to wax them yet, but may give that a shot to see what it does... :dunno

well then! you say MDI is working on a belly pan!!?

eXCELLLENT!! i've been hoping for one as my last connection fell apart... surprise...

Yes Sir, I did indeed! Thanks to my man igoldeneye, they're working it and will hopefully have it ready sometime in the near future. :thumbup I posed the question to him, and since he's so close to them, he's done the legwork and talking with them. Hopefully it'll be released soon! Regardless, I think we'll all owe igoldeneye a big :bow

Do the flash next!!! :boobies :lol :yesnod
I hear you man. :lol I've almost pulled that trigger about 10 times in the last two weeks, but am trying to be good with Christmas coming up and trying to take care of the kiddos and the wife. :lol

#251 ·
That seat cowl looks so good but i've got parts much higher up in the pecking order to get before i go for one of those. Take igoldeneye and my advice and go for the flash man, Mine is in transit as we speak and i can't wait! Oh and i hear ya about Christmas and the wife and kiddo's, i'm totally with you on that score. Look after them first so you can look after the bike!

yeh the flash was 1st on my list when i got my baby... had to be done as i had a 6k touring trip already planned... it would have been not only expensive on gas but an absolute pain in the arse with that shitty mapping and excessive engine breaking...

thanks for doing the legwork igoldeneye!! nice work! i'll def. be in the market for one then!!...

i'm not that big into TI. myself, though i get the allure... i have many more $$ hungry hobbies to even consider ti as an option. :lol

I can vouch for this guy. Chris Kruzel just did some sick decals for my front fender. The bridgestone "B" and the 50th Anniversary decal that you see on the M1 bikes. The quality is second to none! I'll get some pics up when the sun comes back lol.

Watsens finally arrived!

Well, my Watsen's finally came in so I found some extra time to get out in the garage to install them. I'm more than satisfied with them and the way they work with the bike. :thumbup

I mean, it's by no means a TL dash, but I'm good with that, for now... Thanks for that one iGoldeneye :rant :finger :lol

:lol thanks brotha :thumbup

About time you got them lol. Anyway seems like you didn't have the same wait as we did, but well worth it! I have ALL my parts now and i'm just taking my time to fit them seeing as the weather here is wet! Check my list in my sig for all the extra parts. Today i will be fitting the Y pipe and checking out the ECUnleashed!
Mike
I know, I think it was close to three months, but WELL WORTH the wait if you ask me. Fit and finish are OUTSTANDING!

Looking forward to seeing updates as you do them. :yesnod

Hey bro, which tail light is that?
It's the clear Motodynamic sequential LED for the 2009-2013: Motodynamic Tail Light

FYI, the sequential part didn't work correctly until I installed the Watsens because of the integrated resistor, it would just flick off and on very quickly... The sequential signal function will work correctly with the stock front turn signals, or if you add a resistor to a set of other aftermarket flushmounts.

:lol Thanks brotha, I appreciate it! :thumbup No, nothing new lately, but I'm sure come Spring time, I'll start throwing a bunch more money at it. :yesnod

UPDATE: ECU Flashed with chatham's Map

HOLY SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS! :ncont:

I just got my flashed ECU with chatham's map installed this morning and went for a ride in the lovely 40°F weather. I cannot describe how TOTALLY different this thing is now. I'm gonna have to learn how to ride it all over again. :yesnod

1st gear: forget about it. The front end won't stay down
2nd gear: 65-70, crack the throttle and the front comes right up
3rd gear: 80-85 crack the throttle with a little tug, and the front comes up

You guys were 100% on point, the bike is a TOTALLY different beast now. Like having another bike altogether. :fact I abso-fvcking-lutley LOVE this thing now! :lol

UPDATE: TL Dash Install

Well, I got another goodie in the mail I've wanted to pick up for sometime now and got to installing it.

I initially had some issues with bad connections as the connectors I picked up are known for not fully penetrating the housing on the wire. I was fortunate enough to have a lot of help troubleshooting my issues from Gearheaded, Redgecko, iGoldeneye, and CARBONAR1 during the install, thanks again guys! :thumbup

My initial want was to incorporate connections of some sort so I could unplug the dash when and where needed. After dealing with the issues, I opted to hardwire it in by soldering the connections to prevent any future issues with faulty connections. I soldered all the main harness connections, and followed that up with some electrical tape to isolate the connections, and then taped the main harness and TL harness together to give it a factory look. I still have the OEM connector available to troubleshoot any future issues that may arise, use it for programming the TL dash, etc...

Its alive! :boobies

I also soldered the connections under the tank as they had me stressing last night thinking I killed the dash. I was messing with them, and the dash went dead.... Got scared, but had a lot of help from the guys mentioned above again walking me through what to check and address. :thumbup

Ran the wiring along the power wire for my HIDs, and made sure to get it all tucked up in there real nice. :lol

Programming button:

Outdoor shots; don't really like the way they came out, but they'll do for now.

I've got some other goodies on order/on the way right now, and will get them installed and updates added once they arrive. :sneaky

Thanks again for taking the time to check out my build. :thumbup

Thanks Ian, you were a huge help! Thanks again! :thumbup

Looks fantastic like I stated in the other thread.

I think Ian and Ben helped you more than my worthless butt could :fact
:lol No way man, you all really helped me out and I do appreciate it! :thumbup

how are you liking the digital dash?? i bought an AIMs one and i regret it.. my engine revs faster then what it shows so at the end of the day you depend on the shift lights not what the instrument shows
Hey brotha, I really like it. It reads everything just fine. The only issue I've got so far is the gear read outs are not correct, but that's a result of the way I tried to cal it. I'll have to get it out on the actual road to get that stuff sorted, but other than that, I LOVE IT! The only thing I wish it had was an interface for the TCS, and an actual low fuel light. Other than that, I'm good. :fact
