Fair price?? Or not??
I recently took my '99 R1 in for carb and other service and would like any feedback as to whether or not you think I was charged fairly. Service included:
Evaluate carbs (Keihin flat slide),clean, replace pilot jets w/ correct size
Replace spark plug
flush hydrolic brake lines(front & rear)
Oil change w/ Motul synthetic, new filter
bolt master cylinder to after market triple clamp
install new battery
test on dyno
Total $579
note: work was done by a current AMA superbike rider. For the most part I should at least have peace of mind that the work is quality. Your feedback is appriciated.

Figure that the oil change alone is 80 bucks by the time you include 1/2 hour of time $11/qt synthetic.
Brake flush/refill/bleed is about a 45 min job done without rushing, figure that cost an hour of time plus the fluid
Battery install is a solid 5 minute job plus battery, which if you had them install a stock battery, it's a $100 part
Carb clean and re-jet is usually expensive.
Sound like it's on the higher side of fair, but not totally out of question for dealer prices. This is a prime example of why I do the work myself. It's a morning of work and the piece of mind that I know the job was done right.

Well spotted, I read the original post 3 times then finally read the avatar description.
Regarding the original post about a '98. I think thats a fair price. especially if you have confidence in the workmanship.

The real question is do you really feel happy paying for the work you had done? If so, who cares, good service is hard to find sometimes and always worth the price when you find it.
I would rather pay too much and get piece of mind than to get half-hearted work below cost any day.

Thank you for all the input. I generally do all the general maintenance myself, but carbs I have no idea how to get them dialed in right. Since they had it all torn down already I said just do it. The only thing I felt was unfair was that my master reservoir was just zip tied cuz of the after market triple clamp so he charged $37.50 to drill a hole in the clamp and bolt it on. Had I known I would of done that myself. Over all though I guess its cool. Headin up to the track with that shop this weekend so if anything goes wrong their there to address it. Thanks again for your input.
