2005 Starter? Problem
So, my bike had sat for about 2 months unridden, when a few days ago i decided it had been too long. I fired it up, but it didn't turn over. I figured the battery was dead, and left it at that.
Today, i went to go jumpstart the bike. But it turns out it wasn't a dead battery after all. Here's the problem:
I turn on the bike, the gauges fire up, and i hear the fuel injectors.
When i hit the ignition, the gauges go dark, and i hear a rapid clicking (starter?) noise. When i release the ignition, the bike "restarts" (as in gauges turn on, and i hear the fuel injectors again).
So my question is: Is this the starter that i'm having a problem with? Could it be anything else? What kind of difficulty is involved in replacing it? How much would a dealer charge?
Thanks in advance for the help,
Kaz

if I left my R1 sitting for too long, I get the same thing. In some cases, the battery will crank the starter, but it won't fire. Not sure if the bike won't start when the battery is down to a certain point or what, but it seems like once the battery drops to a certain level, the bike will just crank but not fire.
This has happened maybe 3 or 4 times. In all cases, I have been able to attach a battery charger that has a starter setting (30 or 50 AMPS) and fire things right up. Either that or charge the battery up on a lower setting and then the bike fires up fine.
Do you have a charger that has a starter setting on it? If so, I would give that a shot and see if it will crank and fire the bike.

click click click sounds like low voltage...on all posts ...the bike's heart is the battery and everything revolves around a known good battery...

I have an 04 model and it has been sitting for a few months. I tried to fire it up and the gauges light up, I go to hit the start button and the engine tries to turn over but won't fire. I did this a few times and then it seemed to drain the battery. I've had the battery for a while so I bought a new, charged it up over night. Next morning gauges fire up, hit the start button and the same thing. It's trying to turn over but nada. Any thoughts?

Whats up guys?!?! the noise that your hearing is the battery being low on cca take the battery out and get it tested at your closest car parts and see how much cold cranking apms are in it. voltage can be 12+ volts but if the batt has no cca's all you will see is the gauges turn on and hear a clicking sound! good lock

It was a battery issue, though in my case, the batter was $150 for a generic one. The shop refused to tell me what the problem could be, and tried to schedule a pick-up ASAP. They also refused to discuss any recall, saying i would have to first bring in the bike. I really wish i had another Yamaha dealership to choose from.
