Gauge Cluster Memory Broken trips/settings
So I've been reading several forums on here to try and find out why my bike won't keep its trip, and settings memory when I turn off my bike.
First, about a month ago I found that a few wires up front under my headlights were uncovered from protection, the everyday wear and tear had rubbed through the wire casings and I had live wires that were slightly smoking one day, I fixed this asap. I completely rewired it all and now down the road I won't have this problem again because the wires don't rubbed against anything sharp.
After this tiny smoking incident, my trips and settings reset everytime my bike is turned off. I figured it must have blew a fuse so I checked every fuse on my bike, and I checked the battery connection. I even went to my local dealer to see if they have heard of this problem, which they hadn't and they offered to look at it for 130 dollars per hr. SO... they were no help, I started researching online and found other similar problems like this happening but the fixes were just finding the blown fuse. I've DONE THIS! So I have no idea what to do now. I know that my gauge cluster is not getting the 12vlts it needs to keep memory when my bike is off and I dont have a clue why.
My fix from above was only re wrapping the raw wires etc, I know that nothing got severed.
Does anyone have this problem? Any help would be awesome!
Im so annoyed not being able to track my gas mileage and oil changes!!!

i cant help you with the actual problem, but as for figuring your gas mileage and oil changes, you can use your main odometer, unless that is fubar too.
best of luck to you.

the fuse called "back up" fuse , it should be in the fuse box .
make sure its ok , not only visually , try to change it and see if the problem goes away.
if the fuse is ok , check red/green wire in the main harness to headlight harness connector ,for +12v when the main switch is off.
if no 12V signal there , check the harness and see where this red/green wire is torn/damaged.
it might be just a bad connection between the main and the headlight harness , or between the gauge and the harness.

Check lights
I had this problem at the track on my '04. I had to disconnect my lights for the track and every time I shut it off it zeroed everything. Once I hooked the lights back up after the track day it was fine. So check the connections for your lights and hopefully that will be it.
