SOLD: 2002 Silver R1 - With Mods - 18K Miles - $4500 - Akron, OH
$4500 OBO Nearly mint 2002 YZF R1. Title in hand. I am not pressed to sell but with the birth of a second child I have no time to ride. This is the best sport bike I have ever owned. Hopefully she will go to a good home. I am listing locally as well. I have already had several calls and not sure how long this one will last. There are a few very small nicks from normal riding but the bike has never been down. Second owner. Previous owner was a minor league baseball player who rode it to bike nights and occasional rides. He took meticulous care of the bike and so have I. Used this bike primarily on the street but ran about 6 track days at mid Ohio. On about the fifth track day there were several missed shifts and two false neutrals from second to third. It was the last track session of the season so I decided to teardown the motor and have the transmission rebuilt. In the process of replacing the damaged 2nd and 4th gear prongs we had the “racers cut” machined gears (dovetail) by prochassie racing engines in Youngstown, OH. The transmission now shifts smooth as butter and should never need to be rebuilt with normal usage. While in the shop I also had the valves adjusted and put in brand new plugs. Added the manual came chain tensionor and will include tool to for adjustments. The mechanic told me the plugs did not need replaced and were like new but I replaced them anyway with NGK IX Iridium’s. I invested over $1200 into the transmission rebuild thinking I was going to keep my bike. Religiously changed my oil after every track day or 2k with redline synthetic oils.
Valve check, transmission rebuild, compression check & manual cam chain tensioner installation done professionally by Jerry at Summit Cycle.
The machine work to the Transmission was completed professionally by Prochassie racing engines. I will provide receipts of completed work to new owner. Bring your own gear and cash in hand for test ride.
• 2002 R1 with 17900 miles. Could very slightly upon delivery due to occasional ride to work.
• Plus one on the front sprocket. Stock rear sprocket. Comes with installed speedo healer calibrated for accurate reading.
• Two brothers bolt on exhaust which maintains butterfly valve. Gives the bike a nice growl without being annoyingly loud. Also adds about 3 more horse.
• Ran water and water wetter in the radiator and flushed at the beginning and end of each season.
• Always stored indoors and didn’t see the light of day from November 1st till around May the following season.
• Runs smooth as silk, no ticks or clicks.
• Powerful tight motor with recently rebuilt transmission and valve adjustments.
• Double Bubble smoke windshield.
• BMC Race Air Filter recently refreshed.
• Newer Pilot power Pure one front and rear 2 ct. Approx 300 miles on each.
• Tank race grips.

Obo
Thanks for the feedback but I must clarify a few things. $5500 is a starting point for a bike that is in near mint condition for its age. It will be a great value to the right owner but cash talks. If you want to read my 02-03 sermon keep reading.
The 02-03 r1 in my humble opinion was the best of the liter class for that year period. That was the last year the big four built bikes that would last and were engineered to take a slide. The weight wars have brought about the new generation bikes and to be honest I am not sold. You take a slide on a 04 and up or hit a curb at 5 mph and you are looking at a potential salvage situation with at least some very costly repairs. This was also the last year that low end and mid end had any real value. The longer stroke on the 02 make it ideal for an all day track or street machine. And yes you will embarrass every gsxr on the street or track with this bike when it comes to off the line, out of the corner torque. These motors are nearly invincible. The only weakness was the transmission and lowly 298mm front rotors. The transmission issue has been addressed with the professionally rebuilt/dovetail configuration. Front brakes will eventually need an upgrade if you are truly going to drop lap times. Lastly these bikes are becoming more and more rare especially in non wrecked condition. This one is extremely clean, like new condition with a slightly insane motorhead owner who cared and maintained this bike like it were my first born. The value here is you are getting a bike that has never seen the rain or taken a spill. To the right owner that has value in spades when you need a bike that is straight and true. A wrecked bike no matter how much "custom" paint you put on it will never be the same....just my 02.

Price bump. Once the weather breaks will list locally. Short of a few very small nicks from road debri this bike is perfect. With a growing family I simply don't have time to ride anymore.
