2005 erratically shifts between 1-3rd gears
I have been searching the forums for a week now and cannot find a post similar enaough to my problem.
I have a 2005 R1 with about 4800 miles on it. I do not do stunts (wheelies, burn outs, etc), I do ride backroads at a VERY high pace. The bike has been steadily getting worse as far as shifting goes.
There was the break in, at around 1000 miles it started staying in gear damn near until I was fully stopped with the clutch pulled in the whole time. Everyone said it would pass, and it did. Then I started making false shifts to neutral, turned out to be me (user error).
Then I started having a problem downshifting to 1st. I would tap the gear lever and it seemed to be in the lowest gear. When taking off from a stop it would turn out I was in 3rd or 2nd gear. Had adjustments made. This resolved the problem. Then it returned. Bought some Gilles rearsets. The bike seemed to be shifting better than ever. Then started having downshifting problems again.
Today went on a quick ride in the moutains behind my house. I could not shift PERIOD! Had not touched the settings of the gear shift lever. After being stuck in 2nd for a few miles I came to a Stop sign that had a steep hill. I had to stomp the bike into 1st. One good heel kick and it dropped into gear. Turned to go home and was able to shift to 2nd then 3rd, like there was no problem, then I went to downshift, nothing. The lever moved as though it was in 1st already. Gave a good stomp and it still did not shift. Got 3 miles from home, then it started shifting down to 2nd, so I left it there. Got home and made some adjustments to the gear lever (moved it down and up). Both ways did not fix the shifting. The clutch feels fine and the engine feels as strong as ever.
Does anyone know what this might be? Has anyone had this problem? Is there a recall on some parts for the 2005 R1? I truly need help on this one.

How were you making false shifts to neutral? Its still under warranty, take it in to the dealership.

I would shift into neutral by not shifting to second hard enough. Shifting lightly would only let me go to neutral. A friend of mine told me it may be a bad bearing.

Found the fix. I am not technical so I will just explain. There is a bar that goes directly through the frame. At the engine end and down by the rearset there are too pivot points. One pivot point needed lube so that it would move freely. After lubing that small part, it is shifting like silk between the crack of perfect female ass.

With the engine not running, I would just shift the bike into gear and look closely at any part that pivots, add your lub of choice to all the pivot points and wipe off any excess when done..
Hope this helps, good luck.
