First time drag tips

Pretty new to the forum but i wanted to try and get some tips and maybe expectations of how I'll do.
For starters it's an 03.k&n filter,pc3 with a map.two bros black series can and pipe.520 conversion with stock gearing. Stock suspension.
I'm 5`10 210
I've ran a car down the track years ago but im curious to launch rpms? Do most warm the tire etc?

Launch rpm of about 2000,holding clutch near engagement point. Throttle up and let out clutch simultaneously without dumping clutch. A front end lowering strap will do wonders for e.t. for only $25. I dropped 3 tenths with one on my '00, went from 10.17 to 9.90 . I'm about 70 lbs. lighter, you could possibly go 10.50 or so if you can get a good launch and keep from wheelying. Definitely do a burnout,'03 and earlier models have lots of low end torque. Your biggest problems will be finding the sweet spot for engaging the clutch fully, too soon and it will bog too late and it will wheelie. When you leave on the light go to approx. 1/2 to 2/3 throttle while feeding the clutch out. You will need to slip it but not a whole lot with the torque you have. Biggest things I see people do wrong is with shifting too soon, shift at 11,750 or 12,000. You will only make 3 shifts during a run so make them count, you don't have to stare at the tach, but I do look at when I do shift to be exact. Get your bike as straight as you possibly can before turning on the pre staged bulb (top bulb),after the prestaged bulb is lit put bike in gear and hold revs at 2,000 then "feel" when clutch is close to engaging and hold it there, then use your feet not the clutch to turn on the staged bulb (2nd bulb) Break each aspect of the run into a sequence of events, when you can do all each run will be easier and seamless with alot of practice of course. My first run ever on an R1 was an 10.76,wheelying 3/4 of the track ! The strap mentioned will eliminate mostly all wheelies from ever happening.

530 should hold up to more abuse and last a little longer, but if you have a good 520 your fine plus less rotating mass

Less rotating mass damn sure makes a difference..light wheels would sweeten the deal and some good bearings....deep pockets!

yea 530 is just more durable, plus if youve got it stretched your going to want a stronger 0 ring chain and then depending on what type of work you have to get more horsepower you want a better tensile strength

Does the 520 chain hurt you for roadcourse racing? I want to keep my bike balanced; not drag specific.

Where do you recommend getting the chain and front strap? You can take the strap on and off right? So I could put it on just for 1/4 pulls?

I have an 04 R1 with PC3, intake, race baffles, and sprocket. Would I also start at 2000 rpms and then just get a feel for engagement? Roughly what mph would I be at for full engagement?

Any tips on shifting? Do you also slip the 1/2 shift, the 2/3 less, and the 3/4 even less or possibly not at all?

Yes, I am a noob. I built and raced a car for years but never a bike. I have had an R1 for a little more than a year and I would like to get it to the track.

No most guys a road courses run 520 chains less rotating mass. Brocks performance has straps and, you can take them off if your not at the strip. Several different vendors here have 520 kits.

Thanks.

Any more advice on technique? I have read a WIDE range of different suggestions. I am new so it is hard to tell the difference between guy's experience, knowledge, and different setups.

With a stock wheelbase 04 R1 with basic mods (baffles, PC, intake, 1 tooth different sprocket); what RPM should you start at? How is the transiton between clutch and throttle? Do you add throttle faster than you let the clutch out, the other way, or about even? Go full throttle and do it all with the clutch? At what point should I be fully engaged in first gear and will the front stay down at full throttle at the top of 1st?

Tips on shifting? Should you slip the clutch on the shifts? Do I let off the throttle on shifts a little or stay on it with a quick clutch and gear change? Again will the front come up once the clutch is fully engaged towards the top of 2nd or any of the other gears?

Other questions:
>Keep the stock cluthes right? About how long do they last; rough number of trips down the track
>Any other parts recommended other than 520 chain and strap? I dont want to turn it into a drag bike. Does the oil and coolant temps stay ok with stock equipment?

I thought I could find this stuff without posting but like I said the different setups and experience shows so many differing opinions I am still at the point of having to figure it out on my own which seems dangerous.
