for some of the bigger tracks it's the cost for the day and the cost to get there, but i realize that it's pretty unrealistic to expect small track prices for bigger tracks. for the longer distance "smaller tracks" the cost to get there is definitely a deterrent, but honestly it's more of a time thing. it takes 9+ hours to get to some of them which is closing in on 24 hours for travel time for the trip, to ride for 2 days? not really worth it to me. on top of that to spend several hundred dollars for a weekend if not more with tires, fuel, etc is personally excessive. i can see myself in the future giving myself a "travel window" for tracks that i think are within suitable traveling distance for whatever location i end up in. while i think track time is fun, i'd much rather spend the couple hundred + dollars on a thousand+ miles on the road and go see new shit

fair enough....trackdays are definately not cheap. Standard track cost:
300-400 for the track
200-250 for travel/hotel/gas/lunch
350 for a set of tires
30-40 for dinners
And that's assuming you have a buddy that bought the truck/trailer/etc

i'm sure eventually i won't have a problem shelling out the money on a semi-regular basis for consistent track days because they're still fun, but going through school and trying to afford track days on a regular basis is a bit of a reach for me. so far it's looking like i'll have to opt out of the convention this year as well since i'm pretty sure i'll be doing both summer semesters for classes instead of the one like last semester. i should be able to swing a couple weekends at putnam though.

sweet, but I did some calculations and if I take 3 riders it is the same cost/maybe cheaper to go to barber for a weekend then it is to drive to putnam for the same weekend alone
Time would be an issue for you though.

based on this weekend's regatta that i just did, it will be interesting to see how the spring/summer season works out. i'm not sure if i'm going to continue with rowing next year or not until i see how the being on the road every other weekend march-may works out. if i don't, it will obviously open up my fall schedule quite a bit. for me a weekend at putnam (bringing the car as well to carry the generator, tire warmers, tools, food etc.) only costs ~100 in gas including gas for the bike/little generator and the cost of the weekend, providing i have a set of tires that i can get two days out of. one set of tires should last me all the track days in a season for me.

Where do you stay saturday night? I factor in 2 round trips to putnam which is a bit over 4-5 hrs for me. For sure I can't get to Barber for $100...shoot we run through $40 in a weekend on the generator alone.

thankfully my little 2kw generator lasts for 6-8 hours on 2 gallons of gas. at least on job sites i've used it for it has, running sanders and saws. honestly i didn't think about the return trip, but it's less than 1/2 a tank in the car round trip, so i could throw in another 30 dollars for that extra trip home, making it 120 dollars in gas. putnam is only a straight shot down a state hwy from lafayette, so it's pretty convenient. now that i think about it, i may trade a weekend for putnam if you guys do autobahn as a group, depending on when that happens.
if we end up doing a weekend at a putnam together, you could probably just crash at our place for the night if you want instead of making the trip back to your place.

($8/warmer * 3 or 4 + $8 for AC) * 2 days = $64-$80
for Tad to check the math

I'm sure you are correct in that YOU can get to putnam and back for less than I can do Barber with guys, but I don't go without the trailer so it costs a bit more for me.

the bfr weekend was 400 and change total (a bit under 500) for me if i remember correctly after everything was settled. so that's not too far off from 300ish +130 in gas for a weekend at putnam. or were you referring to the wreck at putnam?

I'll remember that when you're sweating your balls off in the 90 degree heat, while we relax in the AC trailer
Edit: Jordan is allowed in the trailer

You may want to pass on Atlanta then. I believe the air temp per the bike on the paddock was 118
BTW...NOONE bitched about the cost of the generator running the AC that weekend

so I should put you down for Atlanta next year?
Seriously, I know the cost is a little more than putnam, but all I can say is the minor increase in price is WELL worth it for some of them (Atlanta and Barber especially). Beaverun will always have a special place for me since I got my A bump there, but it isn't anything special. NJMP Thunderbolt was a blast as is NOLA, but those are 14-15 hrs in the truck to get there.

it'll just be interesting to see what my schedule provides me time to do the next two riding seasons. this upcoming summer is pretty much booked, and the summer after i'll either hopefully be doing an internship or doing my 5 week field study out in the desert. definitely won't have time for any tracks that are a longer distance away.

Looks good to me.... It only cost ~30$ for me to get to and from Putnam last time..... ...with no hotel, genny, and direct food costs (not counting the leftovers I brought with me from my fridge) all told it was about 200 for the day...
