This is the best right up that I have seen. Very well written and lots of good pics.

Keep in mind that the more you shorten the exhaust the louder it will become.
Good luck with your project.

riveting is easy....buy a rivet gun...all you have to do is squeeze the trigger

I did one of those, they are really easy. Took about 30 minutes total. Getting the inside tubing the right length took the longest.

Pull the bolts off the endcap, remove the endcap, Drill the rivets out of the side pieces and remove the billet inner endcap, Remove the inner baffle tube and packing, tape the area where you want to make the cut, draw a perfectly straight line around the canister. Cut the canister, insert the inner endcap into the cut can, measure the size you need the inner baffle tube to be, cut the inner baffle tube and be sure to cut an extra 3/8 inch off for fitment. To mark the holes for the new rivets- install the inner endcap partially and mark on the same tape you used to cut the canister the proper index and proper distance back from the edge. Check fitment on the inner baffle tube and pre assemble without packing. if it all fits together, drill the holes to the proper size for the endcap and the rivets. Install baffle tube with packing, fit it all back proper and be sure to install the little black plates on the sides before you rivet. Install outer endcap. Drink beer.

A couple decibels louder, a little lighter. On the 2012, I dunno, did it on an R6. Same can design though.

What rivets have been used? I used rivets to shorten the can on my 02 r1 awhile back and they always vibrated out or broke. I want to do it with my 09 r1 but don't want to run into the same issue.

Obviously. There are many different types of metal rivets. Steel. Aluminum. Different grades. I was wondering exactly what people have used. Thanks

The top version do not "vibrate out" unless you have the wrong size
SS is what we have used
