First thing I did was to soften the preload a bit. Second thing I did was to stick heat shield material under the seat. I used the stuff that mechanics put under car bonnets to repel engine heat. Another thing you might consider is Michelin Pilot Road tires. Either the 2 or 3 - both will be fine. If you are planning on doing many highway miles, an aftermarket screen will help reduce wind exposure. Lastly, use ear plugs and consider staying with the stock muffler - noise on a long commute can tire you out.
The exhaust heat can also be reduced by removing the cat, but then you will require new fueling. This suggestion also contradicts my other suggestion about reducing noise levels.
